IT troubles and Celtic v Hibernian Live updates

395

Like many of you, I struggled to get logged on with my Pass to Paradise for the Ross County game yesterday.  On the one hand, I was frustrated, but on the other, I had a bit of sympathy for the IT guys, who would have been in the eye of the storm.

Before you deploy a new system, IT will want a trial run to prove that the concept works in the environment.  Most commonly, for systems that are a bit leading edge like the one Celtic bought during lockdown to broadcast games, you are likely to stress the infrastructure in ways that the dozen-or -so earlier adopters did not.  During the trial, the vendor, not just the customer, will often discover things they did not know.

I’ve been there.  Irate customers waiting to buy, while the issue gradually escalates up the customer’s chain of command, with each level of the food chain one telling you how much money this downtime is costing them.  “Today is supposed to be the trial” is what you want to say, and it’s the truth, but you bite your tongue, block the noise out and get on with finding the fix.  All this happens while you communicate tersely the vendor, without going overboard, because at this moment, you need them more than they need you.  Software is not a business for the anxious.

I know it was frustrating, but I thought IT did well to stick the stream onto YouTube and get the login process working before halftime.  If only every workaround I’ve been involved with went that smoothly.

Live updates of Celtic v Hibernian will appear below – Pass to Paradise permitting!

I saw the Saw Doctors twice, both times in The Barrowlands. Got them to sign Small bit of Love EP, featuring one of my favourite tracks Michael D. Rocking In The Dail.

    Great band.

Thanks for posting that article ……….. but you’ve totally sabotaged my day. I’ve spent the last hour watching The Saw Doctors, Mundy, Sharon Shannon, Steve Earle. That’s a brilliant song and I’ll be singing it all day too. ☘️☘️☘️

  6. TOSB, If that was the 3 nil game I was at it. Something tells me you might be right but hand on heart I can’t remember it.

I do remember in a pub afterwards chatting with a few Portuguese fans about Jorge Cadette,

One of them was a night Club owner, he took out his phone showed me his contact list which included Cadette,

He promptly rang him, had a quick word & handed me the phone & he chatted away with me and with my mate as I handed on the phone.

  7. My abiding memory of that night was Kenny Miller scoring 2 goals, I think it was Pearson got the 3rd.

Miller was a hero to me that night but it’s strange how you can go off people,

  8. I last saw the Saw Doctors (well the main two of them) in a large pub in Inverness. I was front row standing and it was a great night.

Have to say that “Red Cortina” is a song The Beatles wish they had written.

And “Broke My Heart” is up there with “To win just once” as a song for those of us that played in sports teams at any level.

  9. Oh so it is a Song not a Proclomation.

Truth be Told I only heard the Green and Red of Mayo.

    No matter what. Forgive.

I think it was the 3-0 game as you say. I was there too. It’s amazing some of the people you bump into and who they know. What would the chances be of that guy knowing Jorge Cadete? 🤣
