IT troubles and Celtic v Hibernian Live updates

395

Like many of you, I struggled to get logged on with my Pass to Paradise for the Ross County game yesterday.  On the one hand, I was frustrated, but on the other, I had a bit of sympathy for the IT guys, who would have been in the eye of the storm.

Before you deploy a new system, IT will want a trial run to prove that the concept works in the environment.  Most commonly, for systems that are a bit leading edge like the one Celtic bought during lockdown to broadcast games, you are likely to stress the infrastructure in ways that the dozen-or -so earlier adopters did not.  During the trial, the vendor, not just the customer, will often discover things they did not know.

I’ve been there.  Irate customers waiting to buy, while the issue gradually escalates up the customer’s chain of command, with each level of the food chain one telling you how much money this downtime is costing them.  “Today is supposed to be the trial” is what you want to say, and it’s the truth, but you bite your tongue, block the noise out and get on with finding the fix.  All this happens while you communicate tersely the vendor, without going overboard, because at this moment, you need them more than they need you.  Software is not a business for the anxious.

I know it was frustrating, but I thought IT did well to stick the stream onto YouTube and get the login process working before halftime.  If only every workaround I’ve been involved with went that smoothly.

Live updates of Celtic v Hibernian will appear below – Pass to Paradise permitting!

  1. Has there been any news regarding Ryan Christie’s new contract? Thanks in advance.

  2. thought Soro looked lively in midfield and zips his passes accurately. Of the youngsters, Luca Connell looks like he has pace, strength and a bit of guile and arrogance needed at that level. Robertson and Henderson have talent and the game time will help their development.

Sometimes, these boys need to be surrounded by more 1st team quality – good example of this is Dembele – I felt he was 2 steps ahead of those around him at times – with better quality around him , he will shine more.

Klimala looks strong and pacey – will be difficult to play against, but too early to determine if he is Celtic class.

The Ajeti rumor is concerning – I don’t think he adds anything to what we have already. I’d rarther sign Toney or Maja

If Barkas comes in, will he have to quarantine for 2 weeks?

Sure PL confirmed that Scottish teams in Europe are regarded as ‘elite sportsmen’ by Scot Govt and don’t have to quarantine so same applies to Barkas ?

  4. Hail Hail CQN,

Watched my first Celtic game since Lockdown Today.

Oli was Incredibly so far ahead of Everyone on the Pitch.

Neil Francis Lennon is IMO wise as an old Owl. TAWNY

Soro playing the Broonie role. Most excellent.

  5. Beyond the football.

I am watching all the news items about people returning (or not yet returning) from Spain, then having meltdowns when interviewed on tv about being quarentined. What did they think would happen ?

But I came from a place that has lower incidents than we have back home, oh well, that is alright then, maybe you carried it to the islands and just dont know it.

What is “essential travel” about having a holiday abroad ?

These selfish deeds, its going to haunt us.

Looking at all the infections data and the patterns, it is only a matter of time till everything is locked down again.

  7. Clyde is brilliant again.

    Grant the hun in amsterdam,

we get 20 million for alfredo, buy a centre mid, another striker, and we will win the league.

My observations lead me to think that a great many people think it is all over .

  9. Just another friendly that means not a lot at all, but it was nice to see wee dembele and connell in particular showing with some lovely touches, passes and link up play. Both have a bit about them and I hope to see a lot more of them over the coming season, perhaps in cups and home games initially. Hazard done well and Doolan was good yesterday. The other kids done well too.

Just thought id post today because apparently some posters only post in defeat. Me, Not guilty Guv.

  11. I remember way back when the VST was first announced I speculated that Sky would sell individual games as pay per view matches. I was very confident I’d be right, and it looks like I was.

Not always happy to be correct. 😔

  12. ….and it would seem that he may be partaking of that for which Amsterdam is famed :-)

    Embramike,

Thanks for posting this re SPFL streaming deal.

“Only Celtic, Rangers, and Hamilton are yet to confirm if they will sell single matches, although Hibernian will not have the service in place until October and Aberdeen will monitor how it works this weekend before deciding what they will do”

Was wondering how Sevco would provide a service to season ticket holders during lockdown.

    This provides a clue.

They’ll charge them a discounted rate to watch.

  14. Ajeti is not even getting a game with West Ham he has only had fleeting appearences via the subs

bench/chairs nah I would give him a wide berth he sounds like a surplus to requirement player

As for Steven Fletcher nah another wide berth he is too old 33

What we should be looking @ is strengthening our Defence cause that’s our achiles heel

especialy when we come up against well organised opposition who have done their home

    work on us

Yeah it’s being typed into his new contract that he has to learn how to take decent

corner kicks from LG & EH

  16. hot smoked,

hertz and thistle lost the arbitration verdict.

the rules stand, the league did nothing wrong, the clubs are a members organisation , and they apply thier own rules.

  17. Hot smoked

Don’t think the clubs have voted on the 5 subs yet – but vote will take place before 1st

  18. Sevco has welcomed the decision for 5 subs and confirm they will have Beaton and Madhun on the bench every week as well as their playing subs.

  19. love this.

For all the heart-wrenching end of season videos doing the rounds, not one has come close to the one of Tommy Lawrence getting vox-pop’d about a game he played in.

Re:-5 Subs Rule it has mainly been accepted by a majority of the Club’s

Sly Sports News have reported that the SFA are having a meeting soon

Also Sly Sports News where reporting last night that toys out of the pram

    I hear you.

Low grade, zero probability of success, sabre rattling by 2 of 42 clubs.

Pathetically peddled as a civil war in Scottish football by a handful of unemployable imbeciles at Pacific Quay.

  22. Just checked the 5 subs rule. The World Body have sanctioned & recommended it but each individual Association has a choice whether to use it or not.

It appears the EPL, the EFL & the SPFL haven;t made a call on it yet.

  23. itscalledthemalvinas on

    Hot Smoked.

I was meaning that hertz got their day in court and ended up,still being relegated !

Authorities have charged them with breaching the rules by running away greeting to the courts instead of abiding by league rules.

Ultimate sanction is being booted out of Scotch football !

  24. ITSCALLEDTHEMALVINAS

Thanks. I thought by Wee Sevco you meant Sevco`s second team which they had fielded against Dundee Utd without having received Covid test results.

  25. Scottish Premiership clubs are to vote on increasing the number of permitted substitutes from three to five in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The use of extra substitutes has been formally approved for League Cup and Challenge Cup matches. But a 75% majority will be required in the top flight.

Scottish Professional Football League chief executive Neil Doncaster said it was in response to “a more compressed fixture calendar”.The league board had acted “primarily out of a concern for player welfare”.

“With teams expected to play more frequently and with shorter periods for recovery, the use of additional players in matches will help clubs spread the load throughout the season,” he said.

“It is also hoped that this amendment will assist player development, allowing more young players to get experience of competitive senior football during the 2020-21 season.”

The SPFL took the decision following a temporary amendment to Law 3 made by the International Football Association Board (Ifab). The Premiership vote will take place before the opening fixtures on 1 August.

If that really is the case, I wonder how Fraser Forster feels?

he is probably thinking I’m made an ars* of this.

I’m sure he will be disappointed.

But he still has 2 years left on his Southampton mega-contract and that’s clearly his priority. Riches over glory.

It was his choice at the end of the day.

I know 3rd choice shot stopper will receive 92K per week for the next 24 months sitting on his

rear end yeah nice work if u can get it

One night on holiday in Morecambe in 1972, I was taken to the church social club my my Dad and Mum. My dad struck up conversation with a man sitting beside us. When he said he was from Waterford, my Dad mentioned that Celtic had beaten them 7-0 in the European Cup.

“I know”, he said. “I was the goalkeeper”
