It was always going to be like this, Stevie

195

It was always going to be like this, Stevie.  You have the resources to comfortably be better than Aberdeen, but you don’t have the experience to put those resources to effective use.  You were knocked out of the Scottish Cup, not because you or your players didn’t try hard enough, but because you are new to management and it is not all about “wanting it” in an ever-louder-higher-pitched voice.

Celtic will eventually lose a cup game, the randomness of chances scored and conceded guarantees it.  When they do, you have as much chance of benefiting as anyone else, but you will need to be good enough to outsmart decent managers with a fraction of your budget, and you are not there yet.

Your employer needs to come up with an apparently viable strategy to win the league each season ticket renewal time.  The City trader with the brain the size of a planet failed, as did the exotic European with a hotline into desirable, cheap and untapped player markets.

You are there because the best talent in England, if not the world, will batter down your door in order to play for you.  That was the ‘elevator pitch’ last year.  It is not because they think you are a great coach, they know you are not.

If you want to succeed, stop bringing in midfielders from Dundee and sign the next Steven Gerrard.  That is why you are in the job and if this cannot be done, you will fail.  In the meantime, all you will achieve is to turn your fans into a cash cow for the rest of the league.  Which is nice, but is ironic, given your own club’s financial perils.

Yip, there’s no shortage of folk wanting the manager’s gig a Celtic, and within that group, no shortage of folk who have some or other credentials to present. Some of your suggestions are highly qualified.

I mind championing Pellegrini and Bilic way back in 2010 when BTM picked up his jotters, but I’d point out that the default seems to be an EPL experienced British coach, and I’d expect that to be the preference again this time round.

    We’ll see.

Well, yes he did chose Villa. Yet both he and Brendan Rodgers said that if Celtic had closed the deal quickly enough he’d be a Celtic player.

Of course both these chaps have been the subject of a character assassination since then… so their musings mean nuffin’

My feelings is that he would have played in Browny’s role… I’m not at all sure Scott was fit at the beginning of our Season we needed back up there.

Although in some ways it pains me to say this – it is an unfortunate but accurate fact that the team plays a more fluent, creative brand of football without SB…

It should not take anything away from his legend status… that’s assured!!

Didn’t Dermot Desmond appoint Gordon Strachan as Celtic manager following a Chance meeting at Cheltenham races?

I wonder who he might bump into down there this week?

  11. fairhill bhoy on

CHAIRBHOY-think he is a good player but would probably have been booked every other game because of the way he plays, the boy could have sat strong and waited for his ‘dream move ‘ he didn’t and that was his choice

looks like 4 EPL teams in the CL quarter finals …. I guess money does buy happiness

  13. the glorious balance sheet unfortunately no, a bit further south,,good guess tho ,hh,

“…think he is a good player but would probably have been booked every other game because of the way he plays, the boy could have sat strong and waited for his ‘dream move ‘ he didn’t and that was his choice”

Well, he seems to pick up a few cards cards in England.

Yet, so did Bazza and he seemed to do alright in Scotland – cough! cough!

For me the whole JMcG is very simple… he wanted to come to Celtic Park, Brendan Rodgers wanted him.

So for me he should be a Celtic player…

If he might be too robust or not good enough, the folk that make the decisions and J McGinn have to take that flak..

It’s not up to some suit to make that decision… they are neither skilled nor qualified for that.

As far as sitting tight… for me he showed sufficient obsequiousness… And you know sumthin’ maybe his granddad knows how it works…

    Hail Hail

  19. I see old Macjay has dropped in. Just wondering what the score is between the UK & the E.U.

  20. Shalke losing by seven, Lyon losing by five, no even in the group stages, will the brit hacks be asking if they shouldn’t be allowed in the CL.

Aye, the money sure does rise to the top eventually.

  21. You do drive past Wallsall stadium heading South on M6 – probably less than 100m from motorway lanes

I have driven past this weekly for past 3 months

  22. No current EPL manager will take the Celtic job,be realistic…even guys like Dyche will be on £2.5m a year minimum, with a 7 figure bonus for staying in the league.

  23. Would take Chris Houghton – good reputation in developing players, and playing attractive football

No idea on his salary ??
