It will be the right deal or no deal as Celtic look for January bling

376

Trying so hard not to get drawn in to transfer window nonsense but our old pal Chris Sutton got the better of me last night on BT Sport. He has been assured Moussa is happy to stay at Celtic this window (presumably by the player himself, or his agent), so concludes that somehow Chris Davies is undermining the player by suggesting he is not playing due to transfer speculation around him.

I have not spoken to Moussa’s agent but I have heard lots about him. He is thoroughly professional and if Chris Sutton did manage to get a word from him, he is likely to have been 100% on-message. There have been no amateur dramatics from Moussa’s side, but that doesn’t mean the world and Own Coyle’s auntie doesn’t want to sign him.

January is famously a rubbish month to sign players, so if anyone wants to acquire Moussa, Celtic will hold out for top price. The same is true for our signing targets. Brendan has significant funds to spend, but the last thing he needs is to load the squad with more of the same.

When the manager arrived 18 months ago, improving results was a fairly straightforward proposition. Now, after twice qualifying for the Champions League and winning all four domestic trophies available to him, the job of improving Celtic is considerably more difficult. These are the joys of planning for successive trebles and a third consecutive season of Champions League football.

We are a week away from the window closing and the ball is in play, but you will not receive a bling hit this month, just to keep everyone happy. We will do the right deals or no deal, like it, or, express mild frustration, followed by a cognitive alignment indicating acceptance of the inherent wisdom. Or just lump it.

Being able to hold your nerve is another joy of planning for a successive treble.

Caught a bit of the deidco game there on Red TV. Ryan Christie getting the FB treatment loud and clear. Dons commentator..’apologies for the shouts, the main stand at Ibrox still stuck in the dark ages’.

  2. Unfortunately there was only one way to go after last season, and injuries have severely affected us in the creative positions.

It’s the same squad, the younger players are a year older, the older players, with the exception of lustig don’t seem to have suffered. They’ve all benefited from more coaching time with BR who, were told, is an expert at improving players. I don’t understand how binning the players who are obviousky capable of performing to the level we want, in favor of some new ones, solves the problem.

I can’t see how anyone can be so sure that bringing in new players will have the instant impact on the teams form. All of our top performers (maybe Sinclair excepted) took time to fit in, and the profile of the players we bring in, especially in January, rarely means we get an a player who is an instant first team starter.

A fit Paddy Roberts will make a huge difference, I don’t think a new right back will

  3. I think the board are going with what the supporters will view as a high risk strategy but to them a gamble worth taking.

Based on our history i expect Moussa will be sold and another low cost project to be signed.

In short another superb transfer window for the glorious balance sheet.

I think a lot of our supporters who talk about years of domination and continuous titles may be left with egg on their face.

The board know continual domination brings apathy and can be bad for attendance if long term.

They want competition and are gambling that the huns can run us close without being a genuine threat.

A dangerous gamble in the corrupt landscape that’s Scottish football.

Our team has struggled to often this season and improvement should be sought.

I guess we will see when the window closes what our directors aspirations are?

Mark E Smith: Sadly this news seems to be true – confirmed by the record label and The Fall’s manager.

Suppose he was one of these guys who will mean nothing to a lot of people, but absolutely everything to a few.

Me, I loved him. A difficult man to love in some ways, being an irascible, unpredictable git, but always worth it. He would put you up on his couch at the end of a night, ply you with booze till pass-out time, then forget you were there and bugger off for the whole of the next day leaving you locked in.

Today was the second anniversary of the death of my closest friend, aged 56, so I was feeling low enough anyway, but to come in and hear this…

Away to my bed, to wait for the new day.

  5. ALMORE, sincere apologies if you think i was blaming you about liam miller, humble apologies hh.

    Fan a tic

We are 15 games or less away rom 7 in a row

I would call that a generation of domination in anyones books

My point was about the 10 in a row chants but most people would know that.

We are gambling as we have done in quite a few of the last couple of seasons on doing just enough to stay ahead.

I feel a little to close to the wind in the corrupt landscape we play in.

  7. Big Packy/Philbhoy: No need to apologise or explain your positions. I only posted about Liam because respected bloggers in Ireland were accepting it as news.
