FORMER Celtic star Georgios Samaras, a free agent after being released by West Brom, is interesting Serie A outfit Sampdoria.

The Greek international attacker left the Hoops last summer and, after a successful World Cup Finals, agreed to join the Hawthorns club on a two-year deal.

However, boss Stevie Clarke was sacked and his replacement Tony Pulis loaned Samaras to Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Hilal for the remainder of the season before scrapping his contract last month.

The Italian side are keen to discuss a deal for the 30-year-old as a replacement for Stefano Okaka, who looks to be on his way to Anderlecht.

Former international keeper Walter Zenga, Sampdoria’s Head Coach, is an admitted admirer of Samaras’ style and wants the former Hoops ace signed in time for the league kick-off.

Last week CQN Magazine ran a poll asking if the Celtic supporter would like Celtic to re-sign Samaras.

Over 1200 supporters voted and there was a clear majority of over 60% in favour of bring Sammi back to Paradise.
