It’s all about the money

There is no point bleating that tonight’s Europa League final is the weakest imaginable, Newco are there because they are good enough to eliminate two German sides and a few weaker opponents.  If they win, fair play to them, they deserve their day in the sun.  I expect them to lose.

Either way, the outcome will determine relative financial strength in Scottish football.  This season Newco will return an operating profit for the first time in their history.  Sales of Patterson to Everton and the management team to Aston Villa, already ensured a bumper year.  The run to a European final could make them the highest earners in Scotland, eclipsing Celtic in this regard for the first time.  It will bestow no more than a stay of execution to a side with gaping structural deficiencies.

The importance of Celtic winning the league this season cannot be overstated.  Irrespective of what happens across the city, access to Champions League income ensures our place at the top of the income chart is virtually assured next season.  If we are there alone from Scotland, the benefits Newco gain from this season will seem no more than a dead cat bounce.  If two clubs are there, we compete on equal terms, against a team spending from income, not debt.

It’s all about the money, nothing else determines long-term outcomes.

    Jack over the bar.

This is not looking good. Huns comfortable, Bassey a monster defender at the back.

Huns sitting in, waiting for one mistake. Germans having difficulty dealing with it.

  3. Gerries showing more skill but nowt to show for it……..

    seen this show before…………………..

    Unattractive game. Ugly crowd.

Hmmm.. Frankfurt play good football and are a better side but Hunball saw them come in to it as the half wore on.

My stress levels will rise the longer it stays nil nil.

    Hi Champs

Caught some of the first half of a game without sound, looks like St Mirren doing ok but Ross County have come back into it.

Oops – just got the sound, apparently this is a cup final!

Pseudo-intellectual, sleekit jump-the-dyke r-sole Pat ‘Hibs fan’ Nevin’s commentary is vomit inducing.

  7. For me, Eintracht a much better team , too many missed chances tho .

If they score first can’t see huns coming back from it .

The longer it remains 0-0 , i do start to fear the worst

2 counteratacking team….at a loss on how to play each other….just punt it and hope for the best….boring and predictable…german sausages shading it…just

  9. Frankfurt by far the better team but they need to score ,Sevco as usual are close together in the midfield and win a lot of breaks of the ball, hopefully the Germans do not get frustrated and lose their discipline, Lundstram is major lucky that wasnt a red card, yes the guy slightly dipped his head but look at the height of Lundstrum’s boot, not even a yellow for that, Tarvernier should also be booked for the jersey pull, its an automatic yellow card, very strange refereeing.

  10. Two poor teams if the truth be known, a defo yellow for Lundstrum and Tav pen, this from a referee who is normally card happy, Frankfurt should be at least two ahead, they are not so something tells me that the huns name is on the cup, just have a horrible feeling about it.

  11. Wife just asked why you’d wear long sleeves in that temperature.

I said it’s so they feel the tug on it to go down….

Thought trying to decapitate someone or steal an opponents strip was a card offence ?

    Just asking for a friend.

Maurice Edu one of the halftime commentators on Paramount. Reasonably evenhanded. At least I don’t have to listen to Alec Rae!

  14. The Huns, as usual, are stifling Frankfurt. Sitting with 5 at the back without the ball. Hoping to steal it from the Germans and release Kent or Aribo, 2 very very quick players, por cierto

  15. English twats on at half time saying nothing the matter with the Lundstrom kick in the head.Indian guy saying Red Card.

You can’t touch them they’re part of the Union.

  16. What Adi says.

Also Hun players will be doped out there box.

I have no doubt about it.

Gerries should be 2 up, very poor finishing and decisions around goal

    Here is hoping.

    D :(

  17. Frankfurt needs to stop giving away free kicks, it is right up their street, if they keep doing that then they will eventually get something. por cierto

    Caddington…

It seems a straight leg studs to the face is ok…if you’re leg is above yer face…and the opponent dips his head….whit an effin disgrace, not even a yellow

    H.H.

  19. Tim Horton,

How did this Hun team beat anyone. At least Eintracht looking a bit dangerous.

  20. Eintracht slightly the better team. Huns had decent 10 minutes spell near the end. Can’t see many if any goals coming. Best chance for huns is probably set piece. How can Ryan Jack be playing in any kind of European final🤔
