‘IT’S GOING TO BE GOOD,’ INSISTS NANCY

WILFRIED NANCY is adamant he WILL deliver after suffering the worst start in the history of Celtic managers.

The Frenchman watched the holders relinquish their hold on the Premier Sports League Cup in a dismal 3-1 loss to St Mirren at Hampden yesterday for his third consecutive defeat.

The previous weekend, Nancy, making his first appearance at Parkhead, presided over an equally-disappointing 2-1 reverse against Hearts to blow the opportunity of going to the top of the Premiership.

And it was a familiar story at the same venue on Thursday night when the Hoops failed to enhance their chances of qualifying for the later stages of the Europa League with an embarrassing 3-0 nosedive against AS Roma with the Italians three goals ahead at the interval.

LOOKING GLUM…Wilfried Nancy BEFORE the Premier Sports League Cup Final loss to St Mirren.

It’s been eight days of abject misery for everyone connected with the club and already there have been calls for the 48-year-old former Columbus Crew head coach to be sacked.

Undeterred, though, Nancy remains positive, despite boos ringing round the national stadium from the fans who had bothered to remain until the bitter end.

Referring to the reaction, he said: “I understand that, but the reality is that I have to respect the process, too. Obviously, we want to win games, but at the moment we are missing certain things.

“To be able to be more dangerous inside the box and also to concede less goals.

“This is something that we’re going to have to work on.”

Quizzed on how he can speed up the changes, Nancy, speaking to Premier Sports, answered: “The work. We’ve not had a lot of time to work because we’ve been playing many games.

“So, we have to stick to that and I’m pretty sure that when it clicks, it’s going to be good.

“But for the moment this is the reality that we are in. The three games that we’ve had, the only thing that I know is to help the players and find a solution. I’m confident of that.

“The reality is in the last three games we’ve conceded goals from a set-piece and we have to come back from behind all the time. On that, we have to be a little bit better.”

SOMETHING TO SHOUT ABOUT…Wilfried Nancy yells from the touchline.

Looking ahead, Nancy added: “We work and try to find a solution every day. I know that for the moment, this isn’t good enough in terms of results.

“I want to make that point in terms of results, but in terms of things that we want to do, there are good things.

“For now, I understand the frustrations of the fans. I know where I am at the club and I’m going to focus on what I can control.

“It’s been like that since the beginning. I do a job that I know exactly that I need to win games. But to win games, we have to be good with the performance.

“This is what I said. Simple as that.

“This is the first time also for me that it happens. This is new, but I accept and embrace the challenge.

“I will do it. We will do it.”

The champions, trailing Hearts by six points with two games in hand, go back into Premiership action against Dundee United at Tannadice on Wednesday.
