It’s hard times in the news industry but enough, already

153

Is there a bookies offering money on STV News achieving four-in-a-row tonight?  Can they set a new record of show footage of fans at Celtic Park on Sunday four consecutive days?  Don’t bet against it.

You would not be reading this if you thought a banned Daily Record journo got a line from those who banned him on Dermot Desmond’s musings.  It just didn’t happen.  The tabs are also keen to squeeze every drop from Sunday’s incident.  It is an open goal they are going to batter at for as long as possible.

I get that we are vulnerable and these are hard times in the news business, but enough, already.

Normally the hours before Celtic play at the San Siro would be a tense time but the team will probably be glad of the chance to go out and play without consequence.  There is nothing for us to gain tonight beyond a self-respecting performance.  I would be delighted with that but would settle for no injuries.

Celtic: Fifty Flags Plus One, an anthology of how Celtic won each of their league titles, is available now.  Starting with our first title in 1893, it details how Willie Maley brought consistent glory, then the sparse successes over four decades before Jock Stein arrived in 1965 and the more contemporary wins since.

It will rekindle memories you had forgotten and give insight into how the leagues were won.

I keep meaning to get the passcodes for the moderation segment of the site.

Not that it matters, these Peepul simply vanish and return under different names, with different email addresses.

So what are the board going to do about the press who are spreading this stuff if it just didnt happen?

  6. Paul67

Perhaps the club is now regretting being so quick to run to the these media outlets with dramatic condemnations of what was pretty small beer.

Perhaps they should have used their tried and tested “we’ll investigate and take action” line!

How is the investigation in to the crushing incident at the hun game over a year ago?

Have the club put Police Scotland in the dock yet?

They were quick enough to put the boot in to their own supporters!

Then again today’s article could be seen as yet another deflection, why are we talking about the press at all?

We know their opinion of us and we are never going to change that, so why bother?

Instead we should be debating the staggering lack of action from the board over our current crisis.

Or perhaps I have missed Peter’s statement explicitly backing the manager?

TED does my bloomin nut in but tbh best way to deal with him is everybody to totally ignore him and not get involved in slaggin match..hopefully he’l soon get bored.

Looking forward to the game, we started well last Thursday, not sure Neil Lennon has a Houdini formation

left to try, if he has he’ll be saving it for Sunday.

Expect the return of Olivier Ntcham he regularly pops when we’re not playing wee diddy teams?

See, this is the point, right here. It was someone inside Celtic Park who chose to push on this door; what did they think was going to happen? That they would get their one-day headlines whilst they cobbled together their statement on the manager?

We fed the media beast this story … are we really surpised it’s coming back for more?

Any person who’s spent the first minute observing the Scottish media over the last few years could have told you how this would turn out. Not only did our board apparently not know that, but someone inside Parkhead leaked it that they were “standing up to the mob” in keeping Lennon.

Utter utter lunacy which was never going to go away after one day.

They’ve created a monster, they have no idea how to put it in the cage.

The thing that irks about Ted is that he repeats the same thing ad nauseam.

On one of you posts last week he virtually repeated the same thing over 20 times.

This isn’t uncommon and has went under the same name on your blog since it started.

Please maybe have a glance and you will see what I mean.

He can’t accept the death of his old club and constantly tries to correct people who make comments on your blog.

I tried to put him right several times with the facts on the death of rangers but eventually got pissed off enough to call him a few unsavoury words which got me blocked.

    ‘Enough, already’??

I don’t believe you’re that naive Paul. This is the SMSM media we’re talking about. You know, the ‘succulent lamb’ brigade, the one’s who have dutifully written up anything they’ve been told to for the past 30 odd years by whoever’s running the teams from Govan. All their Christmasses have come at once and they’re loving it.

It is indeed an ‘open goal’ and they’re not going to stop shooting until Celtic rectify a mess of their own making.

Park the bus tonight and avoid a hammering. Limit Milan to 2 goals and I’ll be “happy”.

  14. LUCKY CODY @ 12:50 PM,

Yes, the renumeration and longevity of our CEO is absolutely head scratching.

Of course clever PR and standing on the shoulders of giants helped him in the first instance, but he has been exposed now and continues in position.

One of my pet hates is the way he negotiates, or rather doesn’t…

The amount of Clubs who have spoken out about how awkward Celtic are to deal with.

Getting into a bun fight with Barry Fry when he was supposed to be getting the signature of Ivan Toney, the latest example.

I’ve asked often; what qualities big Pedro has and what has he achieved?

Remember, Celtic were in great shape when he took over. Far from building on that he’s squandered it.

Even his defenders don’t answer that – excuses and platitudes are all you get.

As far as I can see, he’s picked the low hanging fruit, while spinning the PR to make a fortune for himself, all the time selling Celtic’s soul.

    Hail Hail

  15. DREW1967 on 3RD DECEMBER 2020 1:19 PM

I used to put the facts of his club’s death to Ted and rather than taking it on board he would just repeat the same nonsense the next day and so on.

I imagine he has mental issues and is more to be pitied.

  16. Not sure on the squad we have for tonight but if not resting key players in advance of an important fixture at the w/e I fail to understand this – in addition to the risk of injury/lethargy is Covid infection/isolation – we need to focus on games that matter, and to protect best players for this. Anything else is just plain dumb imo

  17. From Celts Are Here

The Peter Lawwell Problem; Neil Lennon’s Downfall

When Neil Lennon returned to Celtic in a caretaker role, it stood to reason he was coming in alone and wouldn’t be bringing his usual entourage with him.

It was a short gig at the time and the Celtic manager navigated the season out under tricky circumstances to win the treble. After that, he was offered the full-time job for better or worse by Peter Lawwel.

The famous story goes Neil was offered the job in the showers at Hampden by the Celtic CEO and while the manager didn’t say yes straight away, a statement got released not half an hour after the treble treble had been lifted.

Peter saw his opportunity to bring in a manager who would not be combative with himself or the board, a manager who would be grateful for the opportunity to manage Celtic.

We saw with Brendan Rodgers, Peter didn’t like having his feet held to the fire and the relationship between the manager and the CEO was fractured by the time Brendan snuck out the back door. Roy Keane wrote in his book about nearly becoming the Celtic manager before Ronny Deila got the job. Dermot Desmond wanted the Manchester United legend but Peter didn’t.

    Keane wrote:

“I got a call: would I go and have a chat with Dermot Desmond? I’d met him once before, in 2005, when I was signing to play for Celtic.

“At the end of the chat, he said: ‘The job is yours’.

“I got in touch with Celtic’s chief executive, Peter Lawwell, and asked him to give me a ballpark figure before negotiations got going.

“He mentioned a figure and he said: ‘But that’s it’. Paul told me there were a lot of clauses in the contract that he wasn’t happy with. And the figures were non-negotiable.

He then went onto say the CEO wouldn’t let him pick his own assistant and Peter had Ronny Deila lined up for that role.

“They were asking if I’d be assistant to Keane. That would have been interesting of course. He’s a fantastic personality.” Ronny told Sunsport a few years back.

“The idea was to get to understand the culture in Scotland and understand what the club is all and when that didn’t happen I was ready to be No.1.”

Peter put obstacles in the way of Roy taking the Celtic job and wanted to micromanage the former Irish international, who under no uncertain terms wasn’t having it. If you’re going to be the one to take the heat if things don’t work out, you need to be confident you’ve done it your way and nobody else’s.

The biggest red flag for Celtic fans was seeing the board appoint Neil Lennon’s backroom staff for him. John Kennedy and Damien Duff were the men and Neil didn’t have a say in it. The trio did well last season but it was alarming the manager wasn’t allowed to bring in the men he trusted. Having others by your side when things are going good is easy, however, when things are going bad and your own job is on the line, you wonder if they’re giving you their all.

Gavin Strachan came into the club on a board recommendation, Neil Lennon didn’t seek him out, nor did he get the chance to bring in Garry Parker, his long time assistant.

The coaching staff isn’t the be-all and end-all but it’s a symptom and a big example of what goes on behind the scenes. It speaks to a bigger issue of Lawwell micromanaging the team; from coaches to transfers. Sometimes it feels like he is a director of football rather than a CEO.

I had no idea that Lawwell done that with Keane.

I find it hard to believe that any Celtic fan can back Lawwell.

The only people who stand up for him are huns at the wind up.

  24. Afternoon everyone looking for a bit of advice re a parking ticket given for parking in a hotel car park where you had to log in your car reg number into a terminal in reception. I did all this for 2 cars with the assistance of the Hotel manager as we were holding an event at said Hotel (not our first event at this Hotel so knew what the system was) . I have now received a letter from a company who run the parking system for the Hotel in question claiming that I didn’t register one of the cars (complete nonsense feel like I am being scammed) .They have sent me a Claim Form telling me they are taking me to the County court business centre in Northampton there is no Court date given on the form. They want £ 273.95 from me so not a small sum ,can anyone on here who has any knowledge of these scams give me a heads up on the legality of this or should I tell them to……… I would be very grateful for any help in this matter and no I’m not a Hun just a long term lurker honest

    Seriously what has happened ?????

Have the Board got together with NL and said there there all is OK we support you

Have the players who have not been playing decided OK I will play now
