‘IT’S JUST AMAZING,’ MULUMBU

YOUSSOUF MULUMBU, 31, has admitted it will be “amazing” to be involved at Celtic after agreeing a two-year deal.

And Leicester City’s Croatian central defender Filip Benkovic, 21, has also moved to the champions on a season-long loan deal.

Mulumbu, who had been a free agent after his short-term contract at Kilmarnock expired in May, is likely to fill the midfield combative role that Brendan Rodgers had earmarked for Hibs’ John McGinn before his £2.75million move to Aston Villa.

Remarkably, the Congolese international’s only goal in his 20 appearances for his ex-West Brom manager Steve Clarke’s Ayrshire outfit came in a 1-0 win over the Parkhead men in February.

Rodgers revealed yesterday the club “were always on the look-out for a really aggressive number eight to play midfield”.

Mulumbu said: “The first goal for me is to show to the manager that I’m ready.

“Anytime he needs me, I will respond on the pitch. We need to do well in the Europa League, retain all the domestic trophies and continue winning the Glasgow derbies. It’s amazing to be part of that.”

Benkovic joined Leicester City from Dinamo Zagreb earlier this month for a reported £13million and Rodgers added: “He’s a highly-rated young centre-half, a big presence in both boxes and can play.”
