IT’S OFFICIAL: DURAN IN DREAMLAND

CELTIC have at last confirmed the £5.5million signing of Colombian striker Camilo Duran from Qarabag.

Mystery surrounded the swoop with the Azebaijini side admitting last night the deal had not been rubberstamped.

That was a puzzling piece of news from the club considering Duran had already been pictured at the Hoops’ Portuguese training camp earlier in the day.

Now the announcement has been made, as CQN forecast this morning, and the 24-year-old frontman has agreed a five-year contract.

The Hoops fans are likely to get their first glimpse of the forward when they play Middlesbrough in a pre-season friendly at Parkhead a week tomorrow.

Duran said: “I’m very happy, it’s a dream come true to sign for a big club like Celtic, the biggest in Scotland, and I’m just excited to get going and score lots of goals.

“When I first heard of the interest there was absolutely no doubt in my mind and I’m just excited to get playing with the boys.

“It was also a dream playing in the Champions League last season. That’s what you dream of as a kid, so to score goals was amazing and that’s what I want to continue doing here, scoring goals in the Champions League.

“I give it my all in every game, with a lot of effort and dedication – and, hopefully, the goals will come.”

The lightning-swift attacker, speaking to CelticPlayer, added: “It’s an honour to be the first Colombian to play for Celtic.

“It’s been a dream of mine since I was a kid to play for my country and I hope that being here at Celtic and working well, then one day that will become true.

“I’ve told the manager how happy I am to be here and that I will hopefully repay him with my performances.

“It’s a real honour to wear this jersey and I hope that this year we’ll be champions.”

Duran scored five goals for Qarabag in Europe’s elite competition, including strikes against Newcastle, Benfica and Eintracht Frankfurt.

He scored 15 goals overall and also provided 10 assists.

Duran is Martin O’Neill’s second signing of the summer after former Arsenal, Liverpool and England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain agreed a year’s extension last weekend.

The Hoops boss is also hoping to get deals finalised for Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho and Uruguayan left-back Marcelo Saracchi who played their part in last season’s league and Cup double.
