It’s only a flesh wound. King goes Full Python

1151

Celtic hammered Newco 5-1 home and away last season, knocked them out both cups, won one other game and conceded a late equaliser, allowing Newco their only moment of (cough) glory last season.

We finished 39 points ahead of Newco (who were 33 points from bottom). As we set off for the summer, glowing after the first invincible treble in history, chairman of Newco, that complete muppet Dave King, told the assembled media, “In footballing terms I don’t think Celtic are as far ahead as they could have been – certainly with our new signings.”

The two 5-1 defeats now look like Python’s Black Knight losing his legs one at a time, but protesting they were little more than flesh wounds. Except Python was a parody, this guy is being serious!

So, Brendan, Peter, Dermot, get the finger out. These people don’t believe 5-1 is a substantial enough winning margin. When we pitch up at Ibrox on the weekend of 23/24 September, ‘go Medieval on their ass’ to borrow from Quentin.

Take five minutes to update yourself on The Road to Lisbon cyclists, who traveled from Celtic Park to Estadio Nacional last month.

This has been a phenomenal and inspiring effort by a group of Celtic fans – and so many donors.  What a great thing to be a part of.

A letter from an Inter fan, and the Club’s response…. nice to know we aren’t the only ones who are struggling to find our way in the NWFO

    “Dear Procurator,

I’m an Inter Milan fan, I live close to San Siro and I have been a season ticket holder at the stadium since I had shorts and I was a fan of the Nerazzurri with my dad. But today I run the risk of not renewing the season tickets for two reasons:

    1. There are no more football players, symbols, footballers proud to wear the Nerazzurri shirt (the last was Zanetti).

    2. The transfer campaign even in its intentions is scandalous, does not exist, and does not excite.

Spalletti? Well done, but without champions, he can not do much. Selling unnecessary players and starting to work on buying real champions for Inter. If things do not change quickly, this year I will go to the sea on vacation “forgetting” to renew my subscription after 36 years of cheering from the second ring of San Siro. Corrado ’71”

    “Dear Corrado,

We will not have to convince you to renew the your season tickets to your Inter, but let me reply as follows:

    1. There are no more symbol players. The attachment to the jersey, with the exception of Totti, can no longer be claimed. Football is business and all of us, including fans, must now understand this.

    2. On the second statement, it is necessary to consider that the market is still at the starting phase and that, in the specific case, Inter is inert for reasons linked to the principles of Fair Play Financial and, in particular, the agreements reached with the UEFA that paralyze the Inter market if by June 30th the Nerazzurri will not be able to achieve a solid gain (Perisic?).”

  3. All I’m saying with this mob is, I’m going to sit back and watch them explode,,it’s coming at them, and they don’t even know it, the got money from the North American fans, it’s all going to end in tears, but not for King.

Linfield correctly stated that if it happens the game against Celtic will be the biggest game in their history, would allocate the full North Stand to our supporters, which would quite easily be filled by Celts from Belfast alone. I’ll take your view on the matter long before that of the Board. Not quite sure which message they are sending out, to us but it sure as hell aint a positive one.

Slightly off topic but was the reason that Linfield refused to play away to Cliftonville not because shots were fired at their fans back in the 70s, so after that Cliftonville always had to give up home advantage

I feel this decision for Celtic to not take tickets is a slap in the face to all Celtic supporters, but especially to our Irish supporters who travel faithfully to Celtic matches in Scotland. I was looking forward to travelling over.

Hope La Fiorita make the argument redundant.

CELTIC MAC – Definitely chief. Don’t really get involved with issues concerning the board, because I’m not interested – It’s just that fixture switch has me totally puzzled.

WITS – You’re probably right boss. I’m not sure what the reasons are, just seemed to me that they were trying to gain an advantage, the usual cheating from them.

Strange though I can recall being at a game at Windsor and a hand grenade was thrown at the Cliftonville supporters, luckily it missed – it freaked out the hyenas. The Cliftonville supporters started singing and dancing – the hyenas were silenced because they thought it must be the Ra.

Can’t recall the RUC saying a word about health and safety mind you.

DD – That’s life mo chara. Everybody laughing and happy we were playing them, then the announcement today was terribly disappointing.

You’ll now have a number of Celtic supporters looking to buy tickets for the home end because of Celtic’s decision.

I’d suggest that would put them at much greater risk.

WHAT IS THE STARS, 8:59 PM

I started going to see the Wee Reds in 1978 (first game was a Glentoran evening match abandoned because of their supporters rioting on the pitch) but my school mate, who lived on the Cliftonville Road and had been going since the early 70s had said that the RUC had banned Linfield after Loyalists had brought out the guns and wounded two Catholics when their support had swamped the area.

A failed attempt at holding back the Catholic tide that was working its way up from Newington and the New Lodge into what was a once a mostly Protestant, lower middle class area of North Belfast.

  17. WHAT IS THE STARS

Yer man was not wrong, Unity Flats were literally a place apart. The Shankill YCV used it for their training sessions, to get them a taste for blood. A teenaged Billy Hutchinson and his Linfield scarf to the fore before he got his first kills (my cousins) in 1974

  18. What is the Stars on

    O G

Very sorry to hear about your cousin.

Always found it hard to take Hutchinson. He became a bit of a darling to the southern media and liberal types down here during the peace process, he was regularly on radio chat shows and the like, I suppose the spirit of the times then was forgive and move on. Easier said than done when it affects you closely though as it did in your case.

Next month’s Twelfth celebrations in County Fermanagh will be broadcast live on the BBC, it has been confirmed.

“The sight, sound and colour of the Lisbellaw parade will be showcased to a wider audience, in a first for Orangeism locally,” said a spokesman recently for the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland.

He pointed out: “To facilitate the outside broadcast, County Fermanagh Grand Orange Lodge are embarking on a major logistical exercise by moving the start time of the traditional main parade forward by over 90 minutes to meet requirements.”

Under no circumstances should any Celtic supporters attempt to get tickets and sit in the midst of those hyenas, at that game.
