Former chairman of Oldco Rangers, now director of Newco, Alastair Johnston, took aim in the media at Celtic supporters yesterday, saying “I always wondered about the mentality of certain Celtic supporters, not by any means most of them, who basically said our club died in February, 2012.”
Why do they do this to themselves? If it is an attempt to convince people that liquidation did not happen, it will fail. All that will be achieved is the re-telling of the facts. Rangers entered administration on 14 February 2012. It failed to come out of administration and a liquidator was appointed to dispose of the remaining assets.
Secvo Scotland Ltd bought a “bundle of assets”, including the stadium. The administrators, Duff and Phelps, changed Rangers name to RFC 2012 Ltd and gave permission to Sevco Scotland to use the word “Rangers” in their name. Without this permission, Newco would have gone through a similar naming process as Clydebank – Airdrie United – Airdrieonians, who were only permitted to use the word “Airdrieonians” 11 years after the liquidation of oldco Airdrieonians.
If I’m honest, if we were in those circumstances, I would tell myself every day that the Celtic I grew up with was the same as Newco Celtic. I would have no incentive to do otherwise, so Johnston and anyone else who cares, can think what they want about Newco.
He is welcome to his thoughts, if it helps him through the trauma of what he did as chairman of Oldco during the EBT years, and the club’s failure to prepare over many years for HMRC’s legal challenge. Johnston’s board made no provision to retain enough money to trade through HMRC’s challenge, despite that legal challenge being underway years before it got to the crunch.
What he tells himself does not change the facts. Oldco is in liquidation. All player contracts ceased. Assets were sold off, a deal to use the name had to be agreed. Sevco Scotland became an associate member of the SFA while Oldco was still a member. Oldco voted on whether to admit Sevco Scotland to the SPL. Sevco changes its name and were granted entry to the SFL Third Division.
Johnston played a role in the demise of Rangers. He was chairman and had a responsibility to direct the club away from dangers. He failed and now presents an alternative reality, which is easier on the mind.
He also said, “it will be 120 years or so before you can tie with us.” For each of those 120 years, Celtic fans and others will say, “But Rangers died in 2012”. Just as Rangers fans are content to believe their club continues, belligerent denial is not going to change how others regard liquidation. It’s over, Mr Johnston, you let your club die.
There was other guff about “thriving” not “surviving”. They think they are going to win the league and that their circa £11m annual deficit is an indication of thriving. Again, I disagree.

It would be rude of me not to take you to task on your last comment
I have had some running battles with Paul67 (we ll I have disagreed with him and he has not responded)
They are a solid team and I disagree with you about them dropping points to lesser teams
For Celtic to win the league we need to win (not draw) but win every league game remaining
I know mathematically we can afford to draw one game against them as long as we win the other
But that is too close for my heart to take
They have 3 things going for them that we do not
1) The underdog the focal point of stopping us (remember when Lambert and Burley scored it galvanised us to win the league) they are in that place
2) The SFA the MSM and probably the Referee Association will sway towards them when it matters
3) We think we are better because we are richer because they were liquidated because we have better players – arrogance has ruined a thousand companies and Gerrard is playing to that audience
For clarity I am still prepared to bet we will win the league – but only if we stop assuming it and start believing we are in a war

Why do we insist on doing the minimum required. It was always likely that bad luck, under estimating an improving foe or similar would see us slip into second place.

Everyone in Scotland would love to see Celtic taken down a peg and lose the title apart of course from us the support and it makes little difference be it Aberdeen, Hibernian or the rejuvenated ‘Rangers’ they all want new champions. This is not unusual as sports fans the World over all dislike perennial winners except their own fans think of Bayern, Manure, Real Madrid etc. Is it a Bias against Celtic in particular? Had we played 3 v 3 in the middle of the park las week we wouldnt have lost and it wouldnt have looked like they dominated the game, that is the managers gig, he needs to realise this set up with 2 weak wingers is not the way against them, I would bring in a Centre Half , Hatem at right side Frimpong or Forrest wide right, Taylor must get a run at left back,Elyonoussi left side and another ready to go striker, left Griffiths or Bayo go on loan or as part of the deal for a striker, so 2 for definite and move out if we can Hendry, Kouassi Arzani, Benyu, if a strong midfielder can be sourced bring him in as Ntcham could move and Rogic doesnt seem to be quoted and is often injured.

After reading through the article again I was a bit curious as to why P67 stops short of identifying what Johnson is actually doing then remember who P67 represents, claiming that rangers is the same club is fraud. That no one at Celtic has the balls to call a spade a spade speaks volumes on our ethical position and provides direction for the supporters, fraud is ok, fill yer boots.
There is no such thing as an illegal stream, no such thing as a counterfit strip, sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

Not my take on it. £10 x 10k = £100k the PLC have added to the bonus fund with little or no output. Money can be claimed back if you aren’t offered a SB the following season or more than likely you will be asked to re register at no additional cost if there is still a demand for SBs all good if 9IAR is achieved as PLC still keeps best part of £100k for nothing. Worse case no 9IAR demand for SB takes a big dip – those on waiting list offered SB – if you don’t take it you don’t get £10 back either (I think?) also a percentage of those who aren’t offered a SB will not ask for a refund – PLC still keep a big wad of the money. I’m sure with a bit of effort a solution to rouge registrations could have been sought without resorting to fleecing the fans – Again – all IMHO of course

My point was P67 danced around the fact, discusses only the idea that Johnson and their support are fooling only themselves when the main issue is that Johnson is publicly proclaiming a fraudulent activity.

It was 5v2 in the middle of the park last week, Broonie and McGregor versus Kent, Aribo, Jack, Kamara and Davis. The key is the position of Aribo and Kent when Celtic are in possession – virtually always behind the ball, narrow to the point of being virtually central, and first in line in chasing down possession.
