BRENDAN RODGERS has revealed he “would love to stay here longer” as he addressed his Celtic contract situation amid the current furore at the champions.

The Hoops manager is in the final nine months of his three-year deal and there has been constant speculation he will walk away at the end of the season.

However, discussing the situation before the Premiership match against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Sunday afternoon, the Irishman admitted: “It hasn’t really changed from the last time.

“I would love to stay here longer.

A BIG HAND…Brendan Rodgers acknowledges the Celtic fans.

“I’ve had informal chats with Dermot Desmond and Michael Nicholson, but no offer to consider.”

Asked if he would be open to remaining at the club in the right circumstances, Rodgers, speaking to the Glasgow Times, answered: “One hundred per cent.

“I guaranteed I would do three years and if going forward. If I do get offered a deal, there does have to be conditions which allow me to work the best I can.”

The Hoops gaffer body swerved questions about the club statement which was made public just before 9pm on Saturday evening as it attempted to address concerns from the fans who now plan a 12-minute protest in Ayrshire on Sunday before taking their seats for the remainder of the game.

Rodgers continued: “I’m not here to answer those questions because they are not mine.

WATCHING BRIEF…Brendan Rodgers keeps a close eye on events on the field.

“I’m not here to tell supporters how to feel. Supporters want to see the club develop not just domestically, we have to be looking to perform better in Europe.

“The quality of your life is the quality of your communication.

“After this summer that is something the club will most definitely look at.”

Quizzed about the challenges that lie ahead, Rodgers added: “I’ve never been more determined to succeed now the window is shut this season.

“In fact, it’s my duty.”
