Ivorian link at work again, this time in Athens

774

With three deals done, the pace of transfer activity at Celtic appears to be approaching relentless.  The Ivorian link will have been at work again, as news that we are interested in Olympiakos full back, Omar Elabdellaoui, testifies.  Celtic coach, Kolo Toure’s brother Yaya, spent half a season at the Greek club before leaving last month.

Signing players is always a risk, so getting a first-hand insight into how a player performs from someone who has worked with him daily for the last six months is a huge advantage.  Bear in mind, Elabdellaoui is just one of the right backs Celtic are considering.  This one could run a while.

Reports from the US that we have agreed a deal to sign 22-year-old left back Andrew Gutman are amusing, mostly as he was being trailed as a signing elsewhere in the city.  Great to see that as well as using our Ivorian links, we have plenty of connections at Scotland’s smaller clubs.  If he arrives, hopefully Callum McGregor will not see more action in that position.

My main point is that it had nothing to do with Lustig, as some posters were inferring por cierto.

  2. BIG WAVY,”Not convinced Ralston has what it takes.”On what evidence ?The last couple of starts he had and played very well?

Sell Boyatta “!!!!!!!!.So selling our best CH is the answer?

“Spend the money Celtic” On who?Who could we possibly get in better?A Belgian international.

    Hello,Hello,this is Earth calling.

  3. If McKenna comes in he should play in place of Boyata, but I believe they will try and get a fee for Boyata and let him go in this window. Also, Biton is back and can play in a back 3/4/5 as well. That would give us McKenna, Biton, Benkovich Simunovic and Ajer, also I’m presuming that Hendry will go out on loan por cierto.

  4. Maybe just me ?

But, I am concerned on where Celtic finds itself.

Is it 7 or 8 players out of contract in less than 5 months, which includes

Scott Brown, Mikael Lustig & Dedryck Boyata, plus Izzy, Gamboa, DDV, Allan.

Then the loan players, Benkovic, Weah & Burke

Come the summer, 6 months away, we hopefully have Champions league qualifiers.

But in the summer, we then have several players moving into last 12 months of their deals

Which then includes, Craig Gordon, Scott Sinclair, Jonny Hayes, Calvin Millar.

Now I honestly don’t know what to expect from a 22 yr old American left back, who has played 12 college games, a cheap punt? But not the standard I would expect Celtic to be looking at ?

No idea who is to blame, but playing squad is a concern ( forward planning) ??

If I was to pick a time or a place to try out new formations or ideas, I think away at Hibs might have been the last thing on my mind.

Baffled by tactics, baffled by the boardroom and baffled by the SFA and their referees.

Thoughts and prayers go out for Fernando Ricksen – just seen the Scottish Sun article – hell of a thing to go through at 42.

If it was a burd that was making you feel like well , the way a lot of us are feeling , she’d be doon the road pronto. We can’t go anywhere, and the guys who are making these baffling (seems to be word of the day) decisions know it.

    No, It’s not just you.

All opinions – I don’t think Ralston, good enough SPFL player, has what itn takes.

Boyata – take a fee and start thinking of some summer partnerships which he won’t be part of.

    Hardly controversial old chap…

Sorry about mentioning AC Milan big fella, took till 2007 to see us beat them at the Park, very good team they had then too. I’m fine thanks for asking, indeed have ordered tickets for next week’s Cup game against the mighty Clydebank, I mean Airdrie, so looking for looking forward to that. Another thing, if the internet was going to make things so much cheaper, how come it more expensive (£1.50 a ticket) than ordering over the old telephone. It’s not part of Pete’s bonus is it? Need to check with WITS on that one!

    Hail Hail

  12. Teuchter,

you’re right with your ‘burd’ analogy.

    it’s either Celtic or Celibate…… :-)

  13. We can’t lose Boyata this month, best CB we have Simunovic and Hendry not good enough, get rid

Thought Simunovic was a great signing initially, and on his game he is a cracking defender.

Series of injuries – and a constantly changing central defence – mean he has never really settled in to a partnership consistently.

I think that has been a big contributing factor in making him prone to occasional errors and concentration lapses.

  16. The Boyata situation, is gross mismanagement, to let a £10 mil plus asset last summer, to leave this summer for nothing, but we give guys bonuses who are employed to handle this.

  17. The hands cant hit what the eyes cant see on

    @ !!BADA BING!! on 13TH JANUARY 2019 3:05 PM

Our all round asset management, particularly in reference to succession planning, has been pretty woeful.

We have Brown, Lustig and Boyata out of contract in the summer with Benkovic to leave as well. That’s 4 starters (at least as of the beginning of the season). People are talking of the CL qualifiers but that’s presumptions. The league is not anywhere near guaranteed.

Given our poor forward planning, the CL will be a very big ask this coming year.

  18. I think Brendan may be working behind the scenes to get Boyata signed up, just a thought. Boyata would be best served if he signed on for a couple of years more

I’m sure that was down to Brendan’s insistence as there was no replacement in place.

I’d hate to think where we would be sitting in the league right now if PL had got his way and punted Dedrick.

I agree though, totally mis- managed.

    Trump is anti Abortion.

*NAW HE’S NO, he’s just playing up tae the evangelical crowd. Saw a couple of their pastors prior tae the election saying normally with his lifestyle they widnae vote for him but his pro life stance carried it for them.

Recent commentaries have said the last conversation any of his former girlfriends would have with him is when they told him they were lat, he then turned it over tae one of his henchmen. He’s an effin con man.

  21. Now, the game in Scotland has been subverted by the huns, helped by ither huns in secure jobs within the scoddish fitba’ administration.

In this environment the round peg in the” on – the – square” hole is our great club, Celtic. In terms of preparing for the future and attracting interest to Celtic and the Scottish game – how exactly do we prepare a neatly assembled line of willing ( foreign or domestic) participants in the scoddish fitba’ pantomime?

How do we achieve that every year let alone every transfer window?

We are supporters and are hard-wired to lend our support to the club, but as time goes on I am further amazed that we can get anyone half decent in through the gates let alone turn this into a planned methodical approach that results in comprehensive cover throughout the ranks at any one time.

I’d go as far to say that we now have no future in the CL, through little fault of our own btw and I can’t see this changing any time soon.

  22. Everton has to be the worst atmosphere in England, there’s zero chants/songs just moan moan boo boo.

    Correct on Trump.

In 1999, he said, “I am very pro-choice,” and hosted a fundraiser for the NARAL at his then main hotel, the Plaza.

Leaving aside his personal morality (or lack of it, to be accurate), his conversion had nothing to do with ethics, but personal and financial expediency. He has switched from democrat to republican to independent, and back. and back again.

He will switch on any issue whenever it suits him (this is the guy who said economies do better under democrats than republicans), if he thinks there is some advantage to him personally in doing so.

Now, if he reshapes the Supreme Court, that could actually do something. But I’m not sure yet the SCC will go there. And, if they do, Trump won’t really care, as he will be off by that time .. whether of his own choosing, or not
