Jack, Kris and Marvin

412

I’ve loved the coverage Jack Hendry and Kris Ajer received for their international appearances over the break.  The situation in central defence is fluid, with Jozo Simunovic, Dedryck Boyata and (on loan) Erik Sviatchenko each with questions to answer, Jack and Kris have to be considered as having an equal chance of starting the Scottish Cup semi-final.

The thing I’m most looking forward to is seeing Marvin Compper fully fit.  There can be no doubt that Brendan sees Marvin as a crucial element in developing younger players around him, in particular with an eye on the Champions League qualifiers.

Saturday’s home game against Ross County is a perfect opportunity to give Marvin a start, while resting one of the international travellers.  Let’s hope he plays.

    Happy Easter sir.

Did you see Lewis Morgan’s two goals v Dumbarton?

This lad is the most two footed player I can remember. Maybe since Lubo. Excited by him more than the other two. We have won a watch for £300k

    Hi Bhoys,

A wee heads-up for any supporters travelling along Dalmarnock Rd from the Rutherglen direction. There are major roadworks, lights-controlled, after the Tesco superstore and before Springfield Rd – caused major hold-ups yesterday as we headed in to pick up the Broonie tickets so a busy Saturday crowd will create mayhem. Best avoided if poss.

BADA Oh man. I spent all of my summer trying to complete that coin collection. Ian feckin Storey Moore, did anyone actually get him?

*aye manure, he was a very promising young player when with Forrest, he had already been capped when Cloughie, who was at Derby at the time, came in for him. He unveiled him as a new player, as a fee had already been agreed and Cloughie always maintained a contract had been signed, but similar tae that wee former harry wragg trackie seller and Big Billy he did the durty on Brian and opted for manure, hardly kicked a ball with them and retired fae the game 2 years later, the same season they were relegated.

He could have went the same way as John McGovern and John O’Hare, and returned to his parent club where he is still revered BTW, who both won EC winners medals.

Loved your Kirkton Flats, and associated Celtic v Deid mob story. I stayed in the house opposite the middle block for 20 years. I can assure you that your tradition of flying the tricolour from the flats, after a victory was maintained by the Flanagan family 17 up. Magic!

  11. Re Jack Hendry, there are a lot of reasons why I would like him to become a Celtic Superstar, such as him being discarded as a lad and now on the road to a triumphant return.

But without doubt not only would I look forward to the Green Brigade regaling Celtic Park with this marvelous song (and possibly dressing up as well) that really would pay tribute to his dominance of the penalty area, but it would also add to the evidence for the power of Karma….after all it was Brendan’s mammy (allegedly) that made this prediction.

You were pals wi Bud Flanagan. I was more friendly with his older bro Willie. Willie was a crazier, bigger, unrepentant Fenian than Bud.

Happy Days of Youth. We were outnumbered by Kirkton bluenoses, but we were cleverer, more handsome, better boxers and better fitba players. All true D.

Ball tampering- what a hoo haa!

*happens in baseball and football. Pitchers in the former were known tae have emery boards in their pocket tae sleekitly rub rub on the balls, some even used their thumbnails tae raise the seams, then there’s the use of vaseline, however, the home base umpire often changes balls during the course of a game.

When caught the offenders usually have huge suspensions imposed on them. A blind eye was turned to tampering until after the 1919 World Series when Arnold Rothstein conspired with the Chicago White Sox tae throw it.

This was the last time the sport was run without a Commissioner who was appointed in an effort to regain its integrity, eight players were permanent banned including Shoeless Joe Jackson who maintained his innocence and had actually broken records during this series.

Baseballs frowns on gambling since then and even a great like Pete Rose aka Charlie Hustle who was found guilty of it was banned 3 years after retiring as a player and while working as a manager in 1989 and denied entry to the Hall of Fame, almost 30 year later that punishment is still in place.

And then there’s “Deflategate”, prior to this I used tae like the Patriots and Tom Brady although why he dumped Kathryn Bridget Moynahan for a big beaked square heided samba lassie I’ll never know, oh wait she earned over $30m last year.

As big as Brady and the Pats were he was still banned for 4 games and fined $1m, plus the club lost 2 draft choices, although the Federal Court overturned the suspension which had been upheld by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, a close friend of the owner Robert Kraft in an internal appeal, the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reinstated it.

Americans love “the boys of summer” which has been replaced in popularity by “the family game” and no one is allowed tae blatantly mess with it. Most of the franchise owners are big contributors to the various political parties, however, that does not save them when tampering with the national pastimes.

However, here we have a mendacious knight of realm getting away with grand larceny and ruining our most popular sport as well where it is now a joke on the international circuit. The craft, which is still quite big in the US, has a sin to answer for in the mother lodge country.

  18. I think Jack Hendry looks as though he is going to be real good player.

He reads the game well, has pace over 10-15 yards, knows when to go and when to stay.

I think our problem will be hanging onto him, if he keeps getting plaudits at International level (although Hungaray were not a great test) and gets more game time with us, then the more people will be talking about him.

I also think that the msm will talk up our young players in the hope to get them sold.

No that would be today, the last Supper or Passover as Jesus and the Apostles would have celebrated it is today not on Friday
