James Forrest: Scottish football history in the making

122

St Mirren are bottom of the Premiership table this morning, one goal worse off than Hearts, but, on what we have seen from them and others this season, that is a false position.  They passed the ball and defended well.  If they can figure out how goals are scored, they will finish mid-table.

After an opening three minutes that promised a goal glut, Celtic struggled to find an opening until Mohamed Elyounoussi knocked Celtic’s third attempt in as many seconds into the unguarded net.  James Forrest celebrated his newly signed four-year contract by adding a second within 5 minutes.

He will be 32-years-old when this contract expires – and by then, the most decorated footballer in Scottish football history!

This morning, Scott Bain also signed a new four-year contract.  Scott was secure in his no. 1 position until injury during that fateful qualifier in August.  Fraser Forster is unquestionably now first choice, even if Scott returns to fitness, but Scott showed enough last season to prove he is worthy of his place in the squad.

Goodbye and good riddance! He had long enough to do a Moyes but the talent just wasn’t there. Always felt he was after the succulent lamb in an era when that had dried up. Disgracefully encouraged assault on broonie. Budgie would be crying pools tonight if she had tears!

  2. Levein…………..bagged but not bagged till season’s end just prior to huns game……………………..

    Kilmarnock nullified, Hertz neutered……………….Aberdeen on a promise………………

Field cleared for any pesky hun opposition.

Someone mentioned him the other day, think it was Bada Bing, we should be looking to get him on board in January, a Celtic man, a striker, international experience, wants to play for us, available at a knockdown 500K, whats not to like,

as it doesn’t look like we can rely on either LG or VB so we need to do something in January, if not Johnny Bhoy then someone better. No sell on value? Who cares, we should be forgetting all about ‘sell on value’ until we’ve tied up the 10, OE will be unavailable at some point, we need cover, fact.

Good to see young Taylor get a game last night, think eventually he will nail that spot down.

Craig Levein – sacked in order to lull the sevconians into thinking the cup semi will be a walk over – hope so anyway.

What the actual f? I’ve just had an update from the insurance to say we’re being underwritten by ‘Close Brothers’!!!

Saw Jamesie on his first appearance for the Bhoys. Witnessed wee Jimmy’s too. (Ouch)

Kenny’s first game also, and Henrik’s first game at Parkhead, though not his first game.

James is a good player, but like McGeady before him did not score enough goals for a forward. Scott Sinclair had a far better record than Forrest in terms of scoring from wide positions, at least up until Lenny returned but has now been declared Persona non Grata by Big Pete. Lenny doesn’t mind, not one to upset the apple cart, and not this close to the AGM. Scott has been given the Bums Rush by Celtic or as is more common amongst Scottish Masons, he has been blackballed. Halloween? The spirit of Bob Kelly lives on.

Feel terrible for Scottie. He has buckled down, got in great shape and has waited on whatever scraps he was thrown as witnessed when he came off the bench and scored against the Jags. His delight was a joy to see.👍 Obviously not a long term option for the plc – who want him oot the door. I harbour a wee hope that he can get a wee run back in the team. He has been nothing short of phenomenal since he joined us in his goal scoring prowess as a winger. God bless you Scottie – Que sera, sera.

I was concerned that I was maybe issuing too many unnecessary reminders following every game but I@ve just checked the inbox and I’m a wee bit underwhelmed that I only have 30 sets of votes to count so far following last night’s game. So need anher 6 at least if we are to jointly avoid this being the lowest participation so far. An hour and a half to vote for your 3 best players from last night. And your votes might also influence the October Player Of The Month award.

That was 7 years ago, 2012, have you been away????? ”

That was kind of my point. Anyone who had been away would wonder what that clip was all about.

Rangers? Liquidated? 140 years of history gone?

Nah ! Impossible. They are second in the League right now . That clip must have been an April Fool thing.

  13. Jobo

Not the amount of reminders that is the problem; it was the lacklustre performance last night which has left many understanding and accepting the performance but a wee bit unenthused about finding three who rose above the general lack of sparkle .

You are doing a grand job(o).

  14. Ghuys Jobo is making a big effort to provide us with a wee bit of diversion on the blog. Personally I find myself concentrating more intensely on the games & evaluating performances more acutely as a result of his wee game.

He deserves to be supported so I would urge anyone who can vote but has not yet done so to make an effort now.

I would say to Jobo, there were no links last night & CTV was a bit Iffy as well so a lot of your oversea voters may not have seen the game which would account for the low vote.

Hello again all you young rebels.

Great to see some of posters from days of yore back on, and the recent

    newbies.

It will be a very sad day for Celtic fans world wide if our board are eventually

found complicit in this massive fraud to keep the ragers alive.

But we all know the board are not the Celtic, we are.

PADDYMACOZ our CSC president has had a tough week and as an ex boxer

is in the fight of his life, this illness has hit him with everything but he’s still

in there punching above his weight.

    C’mon Paddy keep going.

  16. Corkcelt – thanks for that and you do highlight a very good point. Home domestic games af Celtic Park are rarely live on TV so that’s certainly a reason to expect less votes than other games. And of course, theres no obligation to vote – just a bit of fun.

Tonight’s results should he out at around 10.15.

RESULTS FROM GAME #13 – CELTIC 4 ST MIRREN 0 (ELYOUNOUSSI, FORREST)

Had a pretty hectic day at work and afterwards so if you don’t mind, I’ll skip my usual preamble and get straight on with the results.

A nice rush of late evening votes means that a fairly healthy 43 have given their opinions on this game. The votes (my own choices are asterisked) were as follows –

    Forster: 0

    Bauer: 1

    Jullien*: 12

    Ajer: 2

    Taylor: 19

    Brown: 13

    McGregor*: 9

    Forrest: 37

    Christie: 9

    Elyounoussi*: 24

    Edouard*: 3

    Ntcham: 0

    Morgan: 0

    Hayes: 0

Unused subs – Gordon, Bitton, Elhamed, Rogic.

So, the players receiving points for the St Mirren game are –

    Forrest – 5 points

    Elyounoussi – 4 points

    Taylor – 3 points

    Brown – 2 points

    Jullien – 1 point

This means that the aggregate total points are now as follows –

    Edouard – 26 points

    Brown – 23 points

    Christie – 22 points

    Forrest – 21 points

    Jullien – 17 points

    Bolingoli-Mbombo – 13 points

    Elyounoussi – 13 points

    Frimpong – 12 points

    McGregor – 12 points

    Bauer – 11 points

    Elhamed – 8 points

    Ntcham – 5 points

    Forster – 4 points

    Ajer – 3 points

    Bitton – 3 points

    Bayo – 3 points

    Taylor – 3 points

    Hayes – 2 points

    Rogic – 1 point

The Player Of The Month award is based purely on the total votes given to each player during that month’s games. As a reminder, in September the award was won by James Forrest with Jullien, Christie coming 2nd and 3rd. For October in 3rd place we have Elyounoussi (133 votes) and 2nd place goes to Edouard (131 votes).

But the Player Of The Month for October, with 134 votes is SCOTT BROWN.

And so, it’s on to November, staring with a League Cup Semi Final. Voting will reopen after the final whistle – hopefully that is around 7.25pm although extra time and penalties are a possibility, eek! Voting will close at 10pm on Sunday evening.

    Hail Hail!

  21. Jobo

Great little thing you got going there, interesting to see

how my picks compare with everybody else.

Needless to say that mine are at odds with others as they’ve

always been, but thats the Celtic for you.

As somebody not so famous said ” put 10 Celtic supporters

together for opinions and you’ll get eleven different answers ”

    Well something like that lol.

    Keep it lit.
