January 2020 a window of the margins

414

The January 2020 transfer window closed with Celtic signing Patryk Klimala and Ismaila Soro, while Lewis Morgan and Scott Sinclair left the club.  In addition, Eboue Kouassi and Jack Hendry, as well as several youth players, left on loan.

With two left wingers out (or on their way out), Mikey Johnston’s injury on Wednesday set the club off looking for cover for that position.  If we continue to play three at the back, this will be less of a concern, but Neil Lennon’s other regular formation, with four at the back, requires two wingers.  It will be a couple of weeks before Mohamed Elyounoussi is back to full fitness, so James Forrest will carry much of the burden until then.

My big concern is in central defence.  We have the headcount in this area, but the two covering players, Jozo Simunovic and Nir Bitton have endured another season of injury, we are vulnerable.  Hatem Elhamed plays both right and centre back, so should be able to provide cover.  Like Moi, he is working towards full fitness. You can chart your own expectations on when he is Hatem is back and Jozo is next injured.

Ismaila Soro is likely to be used sparingly over the next few weeks as he adjusts to living in northern Europe, but I have hopes for him.  We need a player we can rely on when Callum McGregor or Scott Brown need a rest.  Patryk Klimala looks to have pace and a directness in front of goal.  He will give the manager options.

Despite the hero-status I attach to Scott Sinclair, those who have left contributed next to nothing this season, so should not be a miss between now and May.  The transfer window litmus test: Stronger or Weaker, will hopefully be passed.  What we know for certain is that we will not be significantly stronger or weaker.  This was a window of the margins.  Given the importance of this season, that fact is frustrating.

We now have our squad for what will either be our second nine-in-a-row season and possible fourth consecutive treble (!), or something considerably less glorious.  They are the strongest squad in the country, with the best manager in the country, do not bet against them.

The job starts with three consecutive games in Lanarkshire, the first time in our 132-year history this is the case (if I momentarily stop claiming Glasgow as part of the County).  History is ours for the making, let’s get it done.

It could only have been “Inch High Private Eye” tampering with Morelos’s motor!

Apparently El Duffalo’s wife calls him “Fredo Inch High with the one eye.” 😉

  2. Morelos “allegedly” cheating on his good lady ????

In Columbia cheating on your better half is actually a “show of affection”

  3. I posted an exclusive re Moreloss wife, and the PI during the week, also heard him and Slippy G had a barney in the dressing room after the game yesterday.

  4. BADA BING – Over on FF they are convincing themselves it’s all a set up, that the PI works for the Sunday Mail. Leave poor Alfie alone, so what if he’s cheating on his pregnant wife, all footballers do it, just a ploy to destabilise the team, . . .

I wonder what the hand sign is in Colombia for “marriage is over”.

  5. Good Morning, from the ironic Chilterns…

Seen a piece recommending Celtic fans get an Irish passport so they could remain European!!

Well, as I’ve mentioned before my son has done some ancestry and traced back our Irish family…

Turns out three of my four grandparents were Northern Uí Néill, the other, a Curren may have been too…

Point is though it was a long time ago, thought maybe my paternal grandad was, turns out was a generation out… my great grandad came over as a boy with his dad…

    Innishowen, via Derry and Glasgow…

Point is though, my son(s) maybe able to get an Irish passport due to his mother’s Marlow connections.

You see, when WWII broke out, my ex’s grandad was a RSM in the Grenadier Guards and was stationed in the North of Ireland, as his wife was pregnant (my grandmothther-in-law) he left her there and went to fight in Europe… including the D-Day landings…

So my sons grandad was born in Ireland…

He may be able to get an Irish passport, while the geal can’t…

  8. Deniabhoy — you are on fire today with his wife has done more to stop his cheating and the previous wee joke😂😂😂👍

  9. Bada – you certainly did post about El Rat-uffolo during week.

I was saying to ma mate Fergusslayedtheblues of this parish exactly that, now I hope you are right about the fall out.

I posted earlier (only my intuition) that El Rat-uffolo seemed not interested yesterday, I hope he has spat the dummy oot.

  17. Good luck to Welsh and glad to see Taylor getting selected again. He did nothing wrong the other night and his crosses were top drawer. Seems Like Lenny didn’t know he had that in his game as he said something along the lines of “he showed something new tonight”.

  20. 🙋‍♂️ Hi fellow Celtic Fans! 😊

Thought I would break cover from my long-term lurking (and flounce) to add some of my own musings to the CQN maelstrom:

    1) CQN is not what it was…

CQN is still a phenomenon and a force of good. There are many amazing, passionate, insightful, analytical, and clearly Celtic-through-and-through posters on here who clearly, like myself, L❤️VE CELTIC. Far too many good posters to mention, but Auldheid, TBB, Jobo, Petec etc. are typical of what makes this site still enjoyable reading. There are also an amazing number of negative moaning argumentative whingers and wind-up merchants on here too. My conclusion here is that this site is under concerted attack from ‘outsiders’ whose sole purpose is to destabilise us as they see CQN as a threat and an affront to their ‘values’.

CQN is not dead; long live CQN! 😊

    2) CEO, Manager and backroom staff…

I for one am thankful and feel Blessed that Peter Lawell has his hand on the Celtic tiller and long may his success in this role continue. Neil Frances Lennon (Mk2) is the perfect manager to take us forward at this historic time, and I for one believe in him and all his backroom staff! 😊

    3) Celtic the team…

We currently have an amazing squad and team just now; I for one intend to continue my life-long Love affair with Celtic and in particular to continue to enjoy the football from Celtic IN THE MOMENT! 😊

    4) Real Celtic Supporters…

I had the privilege last night of watching the Gerard Butler romantic comedy ‘Playing for keeps’ last night, and this is what has inspired me to re-post (occasionally) again. If you haven’t seen this then I would recommend you watch it. I knew Gerard Butler was a mad-keen Celtic supporter, but I was amazed to see him ‘living the dream’ of playing and scoring for Celtic in the opening scenes of this film. Imagine being able to influence and bring about this dream of his (and OURS) to cinema audiences everywhere! Amazing! 😊 For me the opening scenes of this film exemplify the joy of being a Celtic Supporter. So I would say, like Gerard Butler, just forget the distractions and continue to LOVE and ENJOY the experience and blessing of each day being a Celtic Supporter! 😊 ❤️

Good luck to Celtic today! 😊

    Hail Hail and God Bless,

    TB&F. 😊 ❤️
