We have not known an exciting January transfer window since the ultimately disappointing Tony Mowbray window in 2010. That month we signed a full team’s worth of recruits, but the writing was on the wall withing days of Robbie Keane’s arrival.
What we have never experienced is excitement at the possibility of selling a valued first team regular, with a replacement already on the books. Despite screeds of media coverage, we have no real indication if Korean striker Cho Gue-sung, or Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Magdy, will make their way to Glasgow. But I don’t detect too much push back at the prospect of losing celebrated striker, Giorgos Giakoumakis.
I’ve long believed that Celtic need to trade more often than they do. Get them in, inflate their value, sell and repeat. There is no other viable model to improve results on the field. The most important work in the weeks ahead is on the field, get this right, and we can gamble with more confidence.
Activity in the January 2010 window was skewed towards the end of the month. There was nothing done ahead of time and certainly none of our current strategy in play. We can hope for a better outcome.

The STRANGLERS COVER of ” All Day and All of the Night” was recorded in 1988. A Fantastic song by The KINKS in the 1960’s…..but then The Stranglers got a hold of it ( Quite Literally LOL) in 1988.
I cant provide the LINK, would someone please do it for me, as this is one of the BEST COVER Versions of any song that I have ever heard.
I was a bit of a Kinks fan back in the day…but The Stranglers really bring this song…ALIVE with the Brass Section being added.

BDO has around £9.1 mill in a RBS A/C of which around £3.8 mill has been set aside for held claims, trade creditors and funds yet to be consigned. That leaves around £5.3 mill. HMRC will get most of that. As far as the “assets” were concerned they were sold off at the administration stage by Duff & Phelps. The “surplus” from the Craig White era, around £10 mill was realised by BDO, as was ol’ Ticketus money after legal action by the Liquidators. So, no, there is no ringfenced £56 mill, the total realised by BDO was around £37 mill. That is now £5.3 mill.
For those interested in the ‘Small Tax’ claims (by HMRC), £3.08m and £1.0m, the basis of Res 11, 12, 13 or whatever, these have been admitted and paid by the Liquidator. Proof positive that, whenever they became ‘outstanding’, as from 2011 onwards, they were never paid until after Rangers FC went into liquidation.

The figure is a theoretical amount that the Huns would have owed HMRC had they not gone bust.
BDO will have a pot of money from sales of the assets and recouping any other money the Huns were owed, thats all they can distribute to creditors, to all the companies owed money on the day they went bust
They calculate a total pot amount they have to distribute then divide it by the total owed to anyone stiffed by then Huns to work out how many pence each creditor will get per pound they were owed. Yesterdays agreement helps decide the total amount due to all creditors and how much of the pot HMRC will get.
Meant to mention this yesterday but got caught up in the excitement of selling off two of our best players in January. Broadcast Thursday 09.00am as part of Melvyn Bragg’s ‘In Our Time’ series on Radio 4, and now on BBC “Sounds” an informed studio discussion of ‘The Irish Rebellion’ of 1798. Well worth a listen especially for those interested in ‘Republican’ ideas.
Do the EBT recipients get off tax free then, or does a liability to pay the unpaid tax exist.
And if so will HMRC pursue this?
Bit of a garbled post but you get what I mean.
For the record, I like big GG.
I also wouldn’t lose any sleep if he left as I want us to progress as a team and he just wasn’t clinical enough to be effective at the European level this season. Not alone there.
I think this is what Ange alluded to recently when talking about being aggressive in the transfer market.
Sell high and replace with better, bought at decent value.
Rinse and repeat.
HH
I would keep GG and play him every game.
He wants to play and regular starts could improve him.

Back in the 1980’s, The STRANGLERS did a BRILLIANT COVER Version of the old KINKS Song…” ALL DAY AND ALL OF THE NIGHT”.
There was also a great Video of The Stranglers accompanying that COVER Version…

JIMMY; I must admit to never having heard that Stranglers’ version – wonder if they do it on their current tours?
Hugh’s vocals are quite faithful to Ray Davies’ original and the guitars are just as jaggy. But the horn section does indeed take it up a notch. Nice one 👍
GG, JJ and now Guchi – is the winter of our discount tents now in full swing ? HH
PS; Ta for the link BOGNORBHOY!

Thanks for your replies.
I see there are suggestions that Ideguchi might be offloaded this January window.
If so then that is a victory for the hammer-throwers in our game (in this case the Alloa cup-tie), the managers who encourage them (see wee Bawwy Fergushun’s post-match comments about getting in their faces and about their ankles) and of course the ‘brethern’ who oversee such thuggery on the park. The assault on Ideguchi went unpunished on the day (though the perpetrator was sanctioned the next week when it was of no benefit to us), while the assault on Callum, in my opinion worse than the foul on Ideguchi, was never sanctioned at all.
Ideguchi never really recovered from that serious foul play, a guy who had been a current Japanese internationalist when he arrived. As I say a victory for the worst of Scottish football.
Saw that too on Twitter. Remember when Ideguchi came we were told he was a top player. Reo and Kyogo started like world beaters, Gucci got injured and that has just about been that.
I imagine McCarthy, Hooy and Abildgaard will be off too before next season.
Hooooooopy birthday Gia bhoy.
Ì hope we can keep hold of him till the summer AT LEAST.
new article posted.
EMERALDBEE \O/ A DOUBLE NINER!!,
Foul was a shocker and didn’t help but we need better than Guchi. He was a low cost punt at £760k but had dropped out of the Japanese national team in 2019. Think we’ve moved to see if Abildgard is a better choice (Guchi hasn’t had a sniff this season) but maybe the Tunisian guy is a sign we’ve moved beyiond that thinking too.
We never stop csc.
