I saw “Japan first country to qualify for 2026 Word Cup” and quickly clicked on the line-up for their win against Bahrain.  Neither Daizen Maeda nor Reo Hatate made it off the bench.

Japan top their group with 19 points, Australia are second, nine points adrift.  Reo and Daizen did not get into the team because Japan have an ever-expanding talent pool of excellent players to choose from.

Celtic used links to City Football Group to align with the Japanese market in 2021.  Ange Postecoglou, Koygo, Daizen and Reo came and transformed the club.  The years since would be unrecognisable without this influence from Japan.  Despite this, Japan is no longer on our radar; Korea has also slipped from our scope.

We had First Mover Advantage in 2021.  The value available may not be exactly the same as then, but it feels like we have walked away from the richest seam of talent we have seen pull on Celtic shirts in decades.

    If Cellik are bringing a risky fitness wise KT back to run up and doon the wing then he wont last a month.

     

     

    KT could be a Davie Hay clone but a manager with street savvy would be needed.

     

     

    The Huns are bringing in the best midfielder in Scotland right now, Lylle Cameron, and we could be made to look like fools for bringing in Luke McCowan and playing him everywhere apart from where he usually plays, the CalMac position.

     

     

    Maybe use CalMac sparingly and add a few years longer onto his clock.

    Manager has no football philosophy other than being ‘loyal’. Greeks played triangles (Pythagoras) around our midfield General Gilmour and then turned the screw (Archimedes) early in the 2nd half with a quick strike, oh and Soapy Souttar played him on.

    Crazy ‘tournament’, although I think that was how Scotland qualified for Euros (where they were the worst team, by a mile). Will only get better if they ever (🤔) produce plenty of skilful players again. Right now, a couple of decent midfielders and a couple of decent left backs. The rest are pretty woeful, at this level.

    Among it all you do make some decent points.

     

     

    I cannot remember street parties in the town centre when we won the league up until a few years ago.

    And with Greece in Scotland’s World Cup group plus the winners of tonight’s Portugal-Denmark tie, wouldn’t book too far ahead for next years WC finals, and 48 teams qualify for that…..

    I remember being on the Gallowgate in 1998 having a ball when we won the league. But that was when the game was going on.

     

     

    I cannot remember any town centre street parties celebrating league wins of the magnitude of recent years.

    I remember this game vividly.

     

     

    I took my nephew who lives in England to the game.

     

     

    Motherwell time wasted and killed the flow of the game throughout.

     

     

    Goram played a blinder.

     

     

    Lubo sickened them with 5 minutes to go.

    Got thinking about international calendar last night after seeing all the games played.

     

     

    I wonder if UEFA (initially) would consider using the new Champions League format for Euro qualifiers.

     

     

    i.e. play teams once, not home and away, direct qualification for top ¼, two legged play offs for middle ½.
