Jar to the senses

568

It was such a jar to the senses.  Twice a striker was clean through on the keeper inside the box.  For 12 months, this only led to one outcome.  Last night we saw Joe Hart make two saves we have not seen since his former England squad team mate was in goal.

Playing out from the back, as we do, takes nerves and practice.  The key players are the goalkeeper, the central defenders and the two deepest central mids.  The latter two need to be comfortable controlling a pass facing their own goal with an opponent on their shoulder.  Callum McGregor and David Tunbull have this.

You can expect a few bumps on the road; McGregor’s nightmare back pass being an example, but we will improve as the season progresses.  Developing this attribute will inevitably cost goals, but you see the speed and effectiveness of the transition into attack.  Gone are the days of circulating the ball endlessly in a horseshoe pattern, or worse, the long ball.

I also liked our new player, Tom Rogic – another who has the ability to bring the ball under instant control with an opponent (or two, as it often was last night) breathing down on him.  Kenny Dalglish would use his body to keep an opponent from getting a toe on the ball, Tom brought it all back last night.  For me, this is an unexpected sunset performance.  Tom is a throwback, without an engine for the modern game, so these treats will remain a cameo.

How are you feeling about the direction of travel?

Last night’s starting 11 had three new signings, eight players who were here last season, seven of whom are Scottish.  Three signings and, of course, a manager we traveled the world to bring to Glasgow!  There are certainly no guarantees against AZ, but the recovery has been swift and impressive.  You are not going to hear this from too many sources, but the fundamentals at the club remain very good; watch how we grow.

Been reading back. RMcD referred to by Madmitch is Roddy McDonald, centre-half in the 70s. Big highlander who gave up the game to become a copper.

Pretty average CH who scored a winner v Rangers at Celtic Park.

  5. Another week passes and we are unable to add to our squad. There surely is no club with a need so great and yet unable or more likely unwilling to do what necessary to improve. We clearly have the resources it we don’t have the will or the ambition.

If even half the rumours are true regarding us stalling, lowball offer etc are true it is clear that nothing has changed and the PL business plan remains firmly in place. Not only does mean we don’t get targets but our reputation is of a club that we are difficult to deal with – what a plan.

Hopefully the Celts will win 41-0 against the wee Huns Today…or maybe 4-1 ?

Morning, I don’t post on here often at all, but always looking. However I would be grateful if someone/anyone could answer 1 or all of the following questions.

    1. How long does it take to finally liquidate a club/company and can that same club/company use the original name once liquidation is complete?

    2. Will any normal football fan ever find out what the 5 way agreement was about and should we be entitled to?

    3. Why will the ordinary tax payer have to pay up to possibly 100 million for the wrong doings at a football club and will there ever be a public inquiry as to why?

    4. Was there any inquest in to a football player saying his team mates had Covid but was covered up by his club?

    5. Lastly how good are the Tic going to be this year, really liking, na loving the way things are shaping up?

  9. Morning all – heading back north from the midlands of englandshire this rainy yet fine day :)

We were wondering what the craic is in terms of season cards to get into the game – were on the scheme, is it the same cards as last season or have they sent out another.

Thank you all in advance and hope we all enjoy the show today :))

If you’re in the HCTS and the payment was lifted from your bank, your ST is activated. Unless it’s a different seat, it’s the same card from last season.

  11. My suspicion is that we’ll not see any more permanent signings until Eddie is out the door. That may explain our focus now on loan moves to sort cover in light areas.

If reports on Eddie’s wage demands are accurate then he’ll be staying at Celtic Park this season. Best of luck to his agent trying to secure 85K a week after a season spent on our bench.

  12. Yup the moneys out the bank thats magic thank you very much Gold coast Tom thats very appreciated :-)

Many thanks! Here’s hoping! Might just wager 4-1 too 🤣😂🍀

  14. An Dun,

I’d take that rumour with a pinch of salt.

I’d imagine most players and agents know wages are linked to cost of sale and size of club.

If you are going to Nice for £20m I’d imagine there’s a rough figure that people will expect to get per week – say 40-50k a week (and I have no idea what it will be) and you aim for the upper end of that.

You don’t sign for Celtic for £5m and expect 40k a week.

Q – who is the highest paid player at Celtic and what will the (roughly) be on?

    ——————————

I believe what I see in front of me so unless we have secured the 3 (min) first team starters we need and I missed it it is not media spin it is the club failing (again) to support the team on the field sufficiently – simple..

I don’t believe our MSM but when the source journalists in Poland, Belgium etc it is a bit of a stretch to suggest they are in on it……

  16. Moisey17 on 15th August 2021 8:40 am

Correct, we’re one injury away from Bitton at CB again, dragging their heels to save 30k,or the penny wise, pound foolish Man City loan routine again.

  17. Will McCarthy start today? We have a plethora of good midfielders so I’m comfortable giving the incumbents a wee rest.

What about Dembele, has he recovered from the injury sustained in that truly awful tackle in the friendly?

    Where has Liam Shaw gone?

Will Kyogo shake off his injury and start up front, or will Eddie / slimmer Ajeti be given the nod?

Whatever the lineup, be prepared from more heart-in-the-mouth moments as we play the risk / reward game of playing out from the back.

And lastly. A two goal margin of victory to the Hoops will do just fine.

  18. Defensively, we remain extremely fragile. Make no mistake, decent clubs will score against us.

The rebuild remains a work in progress.

Let’s ignore the ‘media says’ argument.

We know it. We can see it.

Are we going to back the manger?

Are we going to do the minimum?

  19. over….and….over

    1. Your best source re the liquidation is;

BDO Creditors Report – RFC 2012 PLC (Formerly The Rangers Football Club in Liquidation)

Do not link it on here, but there you will find Creditors Reports from May 2013 onwards, (process beginning on October 31 2012) with the most recent being, I think, April 2021.

Once liquidation is complete the incorporated company will not trade in any way shape or form. You will probably be aware that a club/company with a similar name was formed after this liquidation process began, something called RIFC. Not to be confused with that of 1872-2012.

I asked the same question on here a while back.

Among the replies was one that said the liquidation of wee Airdrie FC took 11 years (or thereabouts)

So the huns could be years away from completion.

Obviously the longer it takes the more money the lawyers and accountants make.
