Jenz, Kobayashi, Porteous

161

You and I lived through those torturous months when Neil Lennon’s second stint as manager was clearly about to end.  The murky details were largely kept behind the scenes as the manager, players and club did their best to get on with business until a new strategy was in place.

Contrast to yesterday’s statement by Aberdeen chairman, Dave Cormack.  He prefaced his plan by co-opting other board members by name, a clear attempt at defence is numbers, before going on say Jim Goodwin “will be in the dug-out on Saturday.  However…. the Board and the fans are seeking an immediate response”.

If only demanding change was an effective way to achieving change, Aberdeen would race up the table.  Parts of the football business are horrible; Dave Cormack is in one such place at the moment.  He is not handling it well.

Moritz Jenz didn’t do much wrong in his 19 games for the club.  He is a year older than Yuki Kobayashi, the central defender who replaces him in the squad, but the German has more relevant experience of European football.  Celtic initially hoped to convert his loan spell into a permanent deal, the player was even considered as an alternative to Carl Starfelt when the Swede arrived in 2021.

Moritz now needs to make a success at Schalke, his next expected destination, after dropping out of the picture after early successes at both Lorient and Celtic.  Ryan Porteous is the same age as Moritz and is also likely to leave Scottish football within the next week, as Hibs have accepted a $500k bid from Watford.

It’s harsh on Hibs, who are in terrible form and almost certainly about to lose their best defender and best striker.  They and Aberdeen have to wonder how Hearts manage to outperform them with similar resources.

  1. I am one of those who finds watching Celtic stressful. I find it especially so if I’m not at Celtic Park. I put it down to starting watching Celtic in the 50s,

I concur with the view that we are playing great football these days. The most entertaining in many a year.

I’m not too bad watching Celtic at Celtic Park. Watching them on TV however, reduces me to a raving maniac. According to Mrs BRRB that’s my usual self. Damned cheek.

I would say there is a lot in what you say PCS.

From a time when we had nothing, but we had Celtic, the Celtic they followed not only takes in your time(50s) but the previous decades going back to 20s,favourite players and icons like McGrory,MalkyMackay,Delaney and Thompson,

Teams halfbacklines, forwardlines, soldered into memory and debated as tho available today.

We had the odd title and cup and they were regailed and honoured as tho it was a Hatate double in a 4-0 win over the dignified new club.

Its a deep syche PCS that Jock Stein broke in 1967.

Changed our club direction and propelled us on.

1967 as Joe Bradley says in his CelticMinded5 essay.

It was a turning point for Celtic but also a maturing of the irish catholic diaspora.

I only had 90s and their ‘offshore’9,flyin up and down from london to see chaos, defeat and foxes.we have got better tho.

I always have a massive respect to the fans of 20s-65

    God bless them.They got Celtic

Anyone else feeling a bit uneasy about Oh promising us “a debut we will never forget”?

I’m all for new players expressing confidence in their abilities but I fear the Korean striker could be setting himself up for a fall with such outlandish promises.

    Apologies if posted before

Insight into the whole process of signing someone like Oh. He became aware of our interest in September, we’ve been negotiating with him directly for the last two months. Ange has been speaking to him for that long.

Even with all that, and even though Oh was fully committed to the move he was very concerned that the deal might not happen.

I was at that Ireland Italy game

What a night,I must have been one of the few sensible people in Dublin who realised a massive crowd would attend to see us play the reigning World Champions .I lived near the ground and so together with my girlfriend and baby brother ( 14) got into the game well over an hour before kick off and stood right at the top of the terracing ( logic being those further down risked being squashed). When we got in the place was empty but by kick both girlfriend and brother reckoned I was a genius to have come up with such a plan. There was a terrible crush outside (we could see the crowds trying to get to turnstiles from our vantage point) How nobody was killed I will never know.

Italy won ,maybe Rossi scored ?
