At 23, German central defender Moritz Jenz emerged from the Fulham youth setup two years ago. A season in Switzerland with Lausanne, then one in France with Lorient, 45 games in total, is apparently enough to convince Celtic to move for the player.
Interestingly, before leaving London, he was in the same Fulham youth team as Matt O’Riley. It seems likely that much of our scouting of the player took place before he left England.
Last season was a start-stop period for Moritz. He kept his place in the team until injury kept him out for six weeks until December. Thereafter he was as often on the bench as the starting line-up, as Lorient struggled to avoid relegation.
The parallels with Jota are also interesting. Moritz is one month younger than the Portuguese, who also drifted between starting line-up and bench before arriving at Celtic, as his previous club struggled near the bottom of the league.

Mikey Johnston shouldn’t be getting a game as he’s always injured, James Forrest is still invisible, Carl Starfelt is a bombscare, Joe Hart should be told its no “backsies in”. Bernabei is wee’er and worser than Greg Taylor. Jota’s no recovered from partying, we don’t have a midfielder that can find Kyogo’s runs.

There’s a thread on one of their sites taking about their best starting 11. It doesn’t exactly fill you with dread, and they all include Morelos who has only just started training after a long lay off and barisic at left back.
They’ll probably sign a new lb but there’s a few new players and possibly a new system.
None of their signings catch the eye whilst they’ve lost two of their best players
The St Mirren boy who choose to stay at with them ,fine move on surely there is a lot of good young men who could be attractive to Celtic ,just the matter of scouts picking the right ones,as for James Mc Carthy good squad player to have .

We must be the only support in the world who get hung up and obsessed about a player’s contract being too lengthy. We used to get enraged about missing out on players – Fletcher, McGinn etc – or letting players go too early.
I can think of no other support in Britain who would spend a whole year moaning about a player’s contract being too long. They’ll still be bitching to each other about it a year from now.
But we both know the reason behind the constant moaning, don’t we?
TURKEYBHOY – as an injury prone ELP player, his signing was a contentious gamble. He sure had quality – once – but not enuff for Ange to pick him often. That’s why there’s so much interest and puzzlement about James.

I agree with everything you said there . In spite of that, I am not a fan of James McCarthy.
I always get the feeling that he thinks he is so good that he doesn`t have to try in the SPFL No evidence to support my narrow view other than that that is how I see him whenever I have seen him at Celtic Park.
He is obviously talented but I would like to see more energy in his game .
I’d imagine Bloggers are opining about James McCarthy because Paul67 compared and contrasted him with Aaron Mooy.
But then who knows, supporters can post whatever they like, some post in reaction to the lead article.

Ange rates him enough to have him as an almost ever present in last season’s match day squads. Soro, Jullien, Ajeti and even Welsh found themselves in the stands at times but McCarthy was in the squad.
That’s pretty much what I expected when he signed.

Does not look like he has much of a future at Chelsea.
In fact if he sticks around he could end up back at the Academy.
