Jenz parallels with Jota

279

At 23, German central defender Moritz Jenz emerged from the Fulham youth setup two years ago.  A season in Switzerland with Lausanne, then one in France with Lorient, 45 games in total, is apparently enough to convince Celtic to move for the player.

Interestingly, before leaving London, he was in the same Fulham youth team as Matt O’Riley.  It seems likely that much of our scouting of the player took place before he left England.

Last season was a start-stop period for Moritz.  He kept his place in the team until injury kept him out for six weeks until December.  Thereafter he was as often on the bench as the starting line-up, as Lorient struggled to avoid relegation.

The parallels with Jota are also interesting.  Moritz is one month younger than the Portuguese, who also drifted between starting line-up and bench before arriving at Celtic, as his previous club struggled near the bottom of the league.

THE momentous rate of migration from Ireland to Lanarkshire during the mid-19th century left an indelible legacy and I went to meet some of those working to keep it strong.

The Johnny Doherty Branch, Comhaltas or Irish traditional music society of Carfin is dedicated to sustaining the traditions of Irish music, dance, language and culture that came to the Clyde valley from the Irish counties. Founded in 1979, Johnny Doc’s meets on Wednesdays in a modern language classroom in Taylor High School, Carfin’s Catholic secondary. For an exhilarating hour, I tried to keep pace on my accordion as a dozen brilliant amateur players raced through jigs and reels.

  3. How in heaven’s name could Linfield beat The mighty Bodo Glint? A team that dismantled us not once but twice.

  4. That’s the huns won the pre season cup then ☺ and Bodo got beat of Linfield which makes us pish

  5. Stebhoy @8.35

Dalriadabhoy ….as I stated earlier their “stalking “ of our signings has precedent and they will be aided every step of the way by their establishment friends and the compliant media … it is a form of psychological oneupmanship and it dates back to before the petite merde …they will use every cheating trick in the book to gain an advantage over us …cheats then and now ..it’s in their DNA

  7. Well the boy Reid won’t get any league cup experience this year, Airdrie 2 St.M 0

Still think he made the best decision. As FanadPatriot suggested he iS playing and experiencing game time at spl level which is a lot better than the CelticB level in lowland league.

As I said ,if you are not knocking on the door at Celtic at 18/19 years old you should be looking at being loaned out at least .

Playing in the Lowland League is a waste of time .

    Junior level at best .HH

  9. The huns won the pre season Cup last year as well….beating the mighty Royal Madrid 2 0 …..some will never learn ….

  10. Crap first half.Pre Season games mean nothing.Neither does Bodo result. If they had got beat tonight, would have meant nothing. If we win tomorrow night, same.

Either Celtic are doomed next season

    OR

some on here are doomed to experience nothing but fear and woe in their support of our great club.

Someone posted earlier (apologies can’t recall who) …

There’s scene where he meets a Wino down near the waterfront…….

The Wino was played by James Ellis, who used to play Bert Lynch in Z Cars, also set in Liverpool……

Wasn’t just Yosser who was down on his luck……..

Barca are absolutely demolishing Beckham’s Inter Miami ( managed by Neville ).

0-6 so far with goals from Aubameyang, Raphinha, Fati, Gavi, Dembele and DePay.

Their one touch passing is a sight to see.

  14. IniquitousIV on

When Lewandowski starts, this Barca team will be scary. Apart from the players listed above, they have De Stegen, Dest, Kessie, and Busquets. Apparently bankrupt, but able to acquire and pay some of the very best players in the world. FPP clearly not working.

  15. Reading back,,

The James Mccarthy deal was received by the fans with an open mind.

I thought that to give James a 4 year deal he must have proved he was super fit and ready to go.

Surely we would not give someone his age a 4 year deal if he had not proven without a shadow of doubt that he had shrugged off his previous injury history.

There is still optimism regarding Jzmes.

I see the multi moniker strikes again with yet another variant.

  18. 33 year old Lewandowski to Barcelona for £42m.

See what you can afford when you’re €1bn in debt. – crazy

  19. Very encouraged by the 2 signings yesterday, let’s hope they settle in quickly and smoothly and enhance the team in ways we all yearn for.

A lot cooler in Monifieth on Tay this Wednesday morning, so back to the gym for the first time in a fortnight – please pray for me… 😉🙄🤣

It was 29% when went to bed last night and 28% at 7 am this morning, thank goodness it is cooling down now. Glad to be sitting in an air conditioned building this morning

We have in our house several of those liquid gel packs for sports injuries that you can place in the freezer or microwave.

They are ideal at the moment to wrap in a tea towel, place on the back of the neck and it is really helpful.

Or alternately put a load if ice in a towel wrap it up and place on the back of the neck, bit messy and damp but does the job

    Re lewandowski

And eye-watering resale if someone comes in for him, hundreds of £millions it will cost

I agree FFP is a nonsense.

    HH

  22. FFP is just a fashion statement. FIFA and UEFA so so scared of a new Super League set up any rules or regulations they bring in are for show and nothing else unless of course, you are NOT one of those teams who are planning to break away, then the full force of their judicial process will fall upon your head. Corrupt to the core, por cierto

  23. When covid kicked in, UEFA were more than happy to chuck the FFP rules into a box marked Only Open If You Don’t Care About The UEFA Gravy Train. I’m sure the box will stay closed for a while yet.

Barcelona are more governed by the La Liga FFP rules. They have done some financial gymnastics to be able to recruit Lewandowski and not breach La Liga’s FFP rules. In any case, would the pride of Catalonia really be allowed to fall too far behind the pride of Castille, over in Madrid ?

What a surprise as BBC goes full bitch.

Back in with Sevco where since their inception they’ve ran the same club myth despite breaking the news of their demise. A BBC Sports editorial that reads like a team from a Rainjurz programme they’re all back in bed happily together, where they can report Sevco good Celtic bad, just like they did before anyway. The list of employees that benefitted from illegal trusts is a national embarrassment, some of them are now helping run Scottish Football in the ‘it’s oor baw’ fashion that handicaps Celtic and every other team in Scotland.

Maybe they’ll make a special about the reunification,- going for the 56?
