Jeopardy of international travel

252

While we are all feeling confident ahead of the title run-in, things can change quickly, especially with a monitored infectious disease spreading through society.  In little over a week we go to Ibrox, where our hosts are already fretting over the absence of a player who tested positive after flying to Zambia on international duty.

Travel through international airports, on connecting coaches and flights, brings a jeopardy until domestic travel.  With so many players away on international duty and set to return in the days before going to Ibrox, we face a lottery.  There is nothing Celtic can do about this and little the players can do.  It will be a tense few days when they arrive back at Lennoxtown.

  1. Setting Free The Bears

The Sydney people at the presser with Ange used the pejorative term “Old Firm” on several occasions.

  2. AT from earlier.

I know the GB don’t get priority for away tickets.

    It just seems like it.

  3. Tuning in to China vs Saudi Arabia. The first thing that strikes you is that the Saudis are a physically imposing team. They are dictating play in the early stages.

  4. The Saudis have already qualified, and the Chinese cannot do better than 5th, so it is already a low key affair. I’ll probably give it a bye, and go out for my daily constitutional.

  5. Finally got my Slavia Prague top. Currently one point off leaders Viktoria Pizen in the Czech league.

  6. St Tams.

Think its all on that attendance calc,h&a,so if any Celt goes that often, fair play to them.their h&a attendance merits it.

Celtic supporters called the green brigade imo have in recent time came under attack from the couch and lazy brigade, ably participated by those not active in our club, its a pity as far as I know communication is open,I see no reason why it shouldn’t,maybe someone from the group of Celts will speak for them.

  7. Principles v Pragmatism

    ————————————-

“Those are my principles, and if you don’t like them… well, I have others”…Groucho Marx.

We know that the only principle extant at Ibrox is “win at any cost and under any circumstances”. It has stood them in good stead for the majority of both its club’s lives. We do not operate in such a manner, we are principled, sometimes to our cost, and in recent times to the consternation of a section of our support.

We are also a pragmatic lot – not following Rangers FC & Sevco Scotland down their respective financial ‘rabbit holes’ and steering clear of the ensuining sh** storms, was the right decision….who knows we may have be still embroiled in court cases years after…..Sports Direct provides an example.

We’re not going to get the Broomloan Stand back when we visit Ibrox – so it’s either what ‘they’ offer, or, nothing. Turning down the seven hundred would be ‘playing their game’ – let’s accept & reciprocate. The ‘danger’ argument is a ‘red-herring’ – suppose either side insisted on a seven thousand five-hundred and, God forbid, there was an incident, probably bigger, the fallout and repercussions would be grave. That is the pragmatic approach.

So too is travelling to, and playing in, Australia, during the World Cup, when usually at that time domestic football would be ‘buzzing’. We need the revenue – it would be foolish to turn it down. That is the pragmatic approach.

Our principles lead us to run a club in a proper manner at all times. Financial probity is at the heart of all we do – yes mistakes are made – but they are ‘honest mistakes’, which come from a guiding question…”what is best for Celtic”. Getting into a ‘slanging-match’ over Ibrox allocations is not “best for Celtic”….imho HH

I never saw the Presser ; I had only seen the publicity flyers.

In this country, only the Press and Sevco fans use the term as part of the continuity myth. Our club does not, though some of our uninformed pundits and former players may do so from time to time.

The main thing for me is that our ex-pat fans get a chance to see our team. I don’t think there will be crowd trouble but I do fear it might be a damp squib with reserve line ups.

  9. Great stuff from CBN Alan on my very own bete noir Greg Taylor in this article.

My hugely biased (I accept it) takeaway is that there still remains better technicians for this position out there to do what Ange’s system requires but 10/10 for Taylor’s aptitude in embracing that this season….

A summer upgrade or stick? Ange likes him but that’s because he’s now the best of the LBs currently.

  10. Would our Celtic diaspora be as satisfied if we played another team in Oz or is it because it’s a ‘Not an OF’ match they are watching ?

I suspect it’s the organisers are lookign also at the ‘oooh we’d love to see an OF match’ demographic to ensure a sell-out (tickets not morals!)

  11. thems are giving us a paltry 700 tickets to suit thems , there will be method in their madness, tell thems to stuff their tickets.

  12. I’m wondering where everybody’s heads are when it comes to a line up for Mordor? Assuming our travelling bhoys return injury and covid free I can’t see the boss deviating from…

Hart, Taylor, Starfelt, Carter-Vickers, Juranovic, Hatate, MgGregor, O’Riley, Maeda, Giakoumakis, Jota

    Thoughts?

Yep, with Rogic injured, it picks itself.

Abada, Turnbull, Forrest (if fit) as our impact players if needed. Bitton/McCarthy if we need to shut up shop.

We are sad to see the demise of Rangers football Club following on from the historic vote this morning by its shareholders. We will continue to forge ahead with our existing partners in Scottish football to secure a solvent and secure base for the future.

That would not have been sued. They did not exist.

Instead we get kack thrown about Mike Ashley, glad he was remembered this time!He was an INVESTOR IN A SEPERATE ENTITY,and is looking forward to compensation from that seperate entity.

Poor and ignorant conflation once again

  15. I’m sure our manager will choose the strongest team available to him for our trip to play the deid team.

I’m also fairly sure that there are rules about ticket allocations which the deid team have flouted. Until they act in compliance with those rules, I don’t think we should acquiesce in accepting whatever they deem they can get away with.

Celtic Park without them is a far better place. Let them wallow in their ain pit.

  16. GENE on 24TH MARCH 2022 3:57 PM

My fear would be Bitton would have a ‘Bitton moment’ and we all know how that ends with the referees we have.

I live in hope that we can add Kyogo to the Abada/Turnbull/Forrest list, even having him on the bench strikes a psychological blow for me.

I think Ange said ‘medium term’ injury. Obviously pulled out of Oz team so I pessimistically assume he won’t make it. Could be a pleasant surprise

    MACCARGO

Too true. If Kyogo makes the bench, it could be like when Frank Pentangeli’s brother arrives in court!!

  18. Recommend a really good piece on Greg Taylor by ‘Celtic By Numbers’. I think the support has warmed to Greg this season – he is improving under Ange, and is proving to have been a shrewd buy. On that basis, I think we could find a centre-back in Scotland who would ‘slot in’ – I have two in mind, but will ‘keep my powder dry’ meantime….until the end of the season.

  19. Saudis 1-0 up in China. If this holds, they will leapfrog Japan into first place in Group. After today’s defeat, Lebanon can no longer catch the United Arab Emirates, who will now play Australia in the first playoff round.

  20. MacCargo…

That’s the team. No Bitton please. We need movement and to pull them around quickly, as we did at CP in February. We’ve now complemented that with Maeda and Taylor forming a a decent LH partnership and Jota comfortable on the right wing. That will enable us to keep them pinned back. Big GG is on fire and will also be a bloody nuisance to their CHs.

Have Kyogo on the bench. They are terrified of him and would be great to see him appear when they are tiring.

  21. £49 £52 £53 £55 = oldfirm in gematria if you type in the proper code 👍

a contingent of 53,000 from the diaspora ,fable, financially back££££ a celtic led by a “tramp” according to another poster on this thread, at least he wasn’t called “racist vermin scum etc” yet these 53,000 wouldn’t care if alex crowley was in charge of celtic so long as they get a day oot with their pals, a chinwag, a curtain twitch, and any other sweety wife initiatives whilst wearing their “rebels my ass” t-shirts as celtic’s shot to bits integrity sails down the tube to the sewer were oldfirm tales of yore are recited to any available empty heids, but not auldheid, he remains chained to the wall, and whipped etc at random times, in the lower level dungeon room just directly under the plc boardroom were they have a live camera fixed on auldheid 24/7 courtesy of the “tramps” connections to cyber ‘security’ paraphernalia.

we used to be rebels csc

  22. BIG WAVY – Agreed, Maeda’s pace should keep the penalty taker quiet and pinned back in his own half. In a perfect world we go free and clear again then unleash Kyogo and Abada.

  23. Rock Tree Bhoy on

What are we doing taking 700 tickets? Tell them to shove them where the sun don’t shine, At the last game their players had nowhere to go – at any point – before during and after the game – they were surrounded by Celtic supporters, and they looked petrified. If we reciprocate we have just given them an out they don’t deserve, they will be able to go over to their fans and give them a wee clap for coming along to support them, not good, I’d much rather have them petrified.

  24. A Fijian with the glorious name of Waranaivalu scores in the World Cup Oceania Group then gets sent off. Imagine playing in Scotland with a name ending in naivalu. 🤔

    •••••••

post Mon every celtic manager has been a plc puppet.

apart from brendan, who was used in 2016 [as ibrox returned] as a “squirrel” to get the oldfirm fixture back up and running without any trophy stripping, sevco-rangers same club, arguments, res12 protests etc, from the 53,000,the plc “squirrel” trick worked without a whimper from any of the 53,000. only on here did the old poster called, Kev Jungle, call it correct all the way through this massive plc oldfirm deceit, and was called a tin foil hatted looney etc, were he, and only he, correctly called out the plc’s sleekit under the table, same club ticket trap, when everyone was diverted by brendan, the “squirrel” and not a single supporter who bought these £49 oldfirm tickets in 2016 blinked an eyelid or even thought why this price of ticket to play a new club? then these supporters went into ibrox and sang…”your not rangers anymore”….after paying £49, the same price as in 2012 when rangers supposedly died? if they died and 2016 version of rangers is a new club, and not rangers, then why are the tickets the same price as rangers 2012 tickets, £49? are rangers v Celtic games of higher status than champions league games? if so why? if not, why is rangers v celtic £49 £52 £53 £55next? To get to the bottom line, who is being ‘had’ and by whom? start by why pay same club oldfirm tickets prices when not one of the 20+ trophies have been stripped?
