Jetsam, flotsam and aggregated insight

752

Great to see so many names from years ago back on the blog yesterday.  As well as the jetsam and flotsam of life at Celtic, there have been times when the blog has had real value to the few, and occasionally, to the many.  Once or twice, we’ve made a real difference to our club.

Our ability to add value correlates directly with the great contributions which appear here; sometimes when people offer remarkable insight, sometimes when many aggregate their thoughts to analyse an issue.

My guess is that there will be moments in the next decade when that insight and aggregation will be needed, so thanks to everyone who keeps the place sane through the flotsam days, before the biggies emerge.  Thanks also for yesterday’s enormous support.  The untold stories of acts of kindness and generosity from the community over the decade are so numerous they are no longer exceptional.  It’s a great place to be a part of.

There are changes ahead.  A new blog design is on the way and the Quick News section will retire this summer.  Canajunbhoy has exclusively posted the section in the wee small hours for the best part of the decade, so he more than deserves peace to hang up his keyboard.  My sincere thanks for all his help.

CQteN was an enormous success and built three school kitchens in Malawi for Mary’s Meals (photos from the last two are on the way).  It was also enormous fun.  We’re going to do it again, although I’m not sure yet if it has the legs to be an annual event/bi-annual or other.  Open to ideas.

Not sure I agree with it though all have a good argument for inclusion.

Any communication with customers is a good thing. I hope Celtic follow up on this however – there’s nothing worse than asking customers what they want (thereby raising expectations) and then failing to deliver.

It’s also fair to say that most people who attend matches could provide a list off the top of their heads as to how the matchday experience could be improved to the point of being an adequate (n.b. adequate would be a start) customer experience :

    – Easy ingress/egress

    – Treatment by police and stewards as paying customers rather than criminals

    – Clean toilets and plenty of them

    – A choice of quality food and drink at reasonable prices

    – Customer service that is (as an absolute minimum) adequate

If Celtic PLC do not already know this then I am at a loss to imagine what they think their customer proposition is. They could (and should) initiate improvements to all of the above right now without needing to ask their customers. Once they have achieved these basic standards then they should go about attempting to improve on them.

I’ve been to garden fetes that have better idea of customer care.

No idea where you are going to in Portugal, but if it is anywhere near Olhos d’Agua (not far from Albufeira), then recommend Shakers Bar – owner is a Tim!

JP admitted himself that if the meetings are to be productive then they must be inclusive and that would mean opening them up to more dissenting voices.

He questioned whether it had been worth the hassle. I pointed out that despite the reservations of some, myself included, that he should do his upmost to ensure they continued.

    Fingers crossed J.

  12. I was asked, as a (multiple) season book holder, what would stop me from renewing?

    My response:

Stupid o’clock kick off’s and moving season book games from 3 on a Saturday t.o pander to the TV

They want to cater to armchair fans? They just recruited some more.

Be interesting to assess how many supporters are turned away because it’s not sensible to buy a season book when 20% of games are shifted from a 3 o’clock Saturday KO

Obviously room for discussion with that selection, but the Main Men are all there, so not controversial at all. Breitner was a superb right back too, as was Andi Brehme on the other side. I’d maybe have Garrincha for ZZ, for a more balanced team.

Yes I know — I wrote a long article ages ago re what would happen with Armstrong when WADA or whoever grew a set after the USADA report — and included what had happened to Bassons.

Compared the whole thing to the Gers fiasco too.
