Jetsam, flotsam and aggregated insight

752

Great to see so many names from years ago back on the blog yesterday.  As well as the jetsam and flotsam of life at Celtic, there have been times when the blog has had real value to the few, and occasionally, to the many.  Once or twice, we’ve made a real difference to our club.

Our ability to add value correlates directly with the great contributions which appear here; sometimes when people offer remarkable insight, sometimes when many aggregate their thoughts to analyse an issue.

My guess is that there will be moments in the next decade when that insight and aggregation will be needed, so thanks to everyone who keeps the place sane through the flotsam days, before the biggies emerge.  Thanks also for yesterday’s enormous support.  The untold stories of acts of kindness and generosity from the community over the decade are so numerous they are no longer exceptional.  It’s a great place to be a part of.

There are changes ahead.  A new blog design is on the way and the Quick News section will retire this summer.  Canajunbhoy has exclusively posted the section in the wee small hours for the best part of the decade, so he more than deserves peace to hang up his keyboard.  My sincere thanks for all his help.

CQteN was an enormous success and built three school kitchens in Malawi for Mary’s Meals (photos from the last two are on the way).  It was also enormous fun.  We’re going to do it again, although I’m not sure yet if it has the legs to be an annual event/bi-annual or other.  Open to ideas.

Pros and cons mate. Might be someone’s idea of fun. The beer is rank rotten. I think they sell Skol! Last time I was in it was horrible. I met a mate of mine there as it was the only bar we both knew. Didn;t even finish my pint. We went to Diane’s pool hall which is marginally better. We were shifted out our seats by two posties with a bag full of letters who had been clearly drinking all day and wanted to play dominoes on a huge board that fits on the table. I was standing in amazement at the boy saying I will see your gas bill and raise you a birthday card.

  4. Oh ,just one more little comment before I am definitely off. There have been quite a few excellent one liners and a general good humour about the site today. Long may it prevail.

Long time lurker, first time poster. Off to game tonight so thought I would add my comments after like others. Hopefully, wining start to my new career///

  9. Gazing out the window across the golf course at Murrayfield Stadium basking in the warm sunshine. Haven’t been inside the stadium since a Stones concert 15 years ago.

So looking forward to the game tonight. Expecting a high tempo start, sharp passing and hopefully an early goal to settle the nerves. Also just noted SSN reporting Southampton bid in for FF.

Weather is going to be warm and sunny all day so enjoy Embra bhoys, don’t drink too much and remember to tidy up on your way home ;-)

I’ll see yer Skol Lager, and raise you.

Back in the late 80s when I was working in South Shields, they still sold Norseman Lager.

Aye,that foul-tasting concoction you used to get for 10p a can and still think you were robbed.

    They sold it on draught.

To say it caught me by surprise, having ordered a pint of lager,is an understatement.

It caught my girlfriend by surprise too-I spat it all over her!

Not my proudest moment, but it hit my tonsils and that was it….

    Mate.

You`ve done a marvellous job in spruiking the overseasson ticket scheme.

    Tell you wot.

I`ve been attempting to give them money for the last five days.

Emailed,re-emailed completed forms, bankcard numbers et al.

Double checked with young techies to try to ensure that there were no mistakes at our end.

By this stage , I`ve usually decided that if your processes are so amateurish,it means you don`t give a damn.

But this is Celtic,so I persevere.

12 hours to kick off,so not much chance of the game on Celtic T.V.early morn in Oz.

You should be aware how your marvellous efforts can be stymied by slack back-up in “the office.”

    Hail Hail,anyway.:-)

Does anybody remember the McEwan’s lager, also gash, advert with the ‘Chinheads’?

For a while we referred to the huns as the Chinheads because of that ad and their sponsorship deal.

Fact – Tennents Super Lager is popular in Italy, I’ve seen it on sale in bars and also supermarkets.

I had arranged to meet up with Kitalba & Estadio before a game at Tynecastle Park.I met them as they come of the train and took them round to Ryries where we had a few before the game, arranged to meet there afterwards, Winningemmel and his Laddie Aiden were at the far end of the bar and came along and joined the company,Good drink that night, and in good company. what you would call the fathers of CQN at that time.

I like Ryrie’s. It’s a decent wee boozer but it will be packed today. If anyone is looking for a pint and a seat then I am happy to give some ideas out for bars but if they want to be in the atmosphere one of the bars around Haymarket or the Roseburn will be the place to be.

I just can;t wait to get out my work.
