Great to see so many names from years ago back on the blog yesterday. As well as the jetsam and flotsam of life at Celtic, there have been times when the blog has had real value to the few, and occasionally, to the many. Once or twice, we’ve made a real difference to our club.
Our ability to add value correlates directly with the great contributions which appear here; sometimes when people offer remarkable insight, sometimes when many aggregate their thoughts to analyse an issue.
My guess is that there will be moments in the next decade when that insight and aggregation will be needed, so thanks to everyone who keeps the place sane through the flotsam days, before the biggies emerge. Thanks also for yesterday’s enormous support. The untold stories of acts of kindness and generosity from the community over the decade are so numerous they are no longer exceptional. It’s a great place to be a part of.
There are changes ahead. A new blog design is on the way and the Quick News section will retire this summer. Canajunbhoy has exclusively posted the section in the wee small hours for the best part of the decade, so he more than deserves peace to hang up his keyboard. My sincere thanks for all his help.
CQteN was an enormous success and built three school kitchens in Malawi for Mary’s Meals (photos from the last two are on the way). It was also enormous fun. We’re going to do it again, although I’m not sure yet if it has the legs to be an annual event/bi-annual or other. Open to ideas.

New blog should have filter for posts which contain ‘ should of ‘.
New blog could have filter for posts which contain” could of “.
It may be moot but is there any chance that the prohibition of the term ” it is a mute point ” ?

:-))))
Can we also address the imply/infer issue?
Number/amount as well.
My favourite poster of all time noel90, whatever happened to him?
Ayrtic another come transfer window but he seems to have fallen away. I think the train goin to be full of cqners tomorrow, is there a signal for us all to acknowledge each other?:-)
… and the pronunciation of “adult”.

I had a more accurate watch then!
Plus,it was only about 2pm.
It’s the 10pm and onwards ones that screw me up.
You ever seen a pumpkin running for a train?

Congrats to CQN for a fantastic 10 years of bampottery, banter and the amazing support you via CQN have given not only the Celtic family but everyone who has benefitted from all your fundraising.CQN has embraced the ethos of our club and surpassed all expectations especially the Malawi project.
On a personal level I would like to thank you and all the guys and gals on this site on behalf of my fellow Thalidomiders for your support in the “Showyourhand hands” campaign. We are making great progress in our quest for justice so thanks to all those GREEN HANDS.
What the hell … in for a penny….
On the Stokes debate (although this applies to most of our forwards)….
I dont think the problem is with our strikers …. Given the chances, LG, AS and even TP (although a different kind of striker… more of a no. 2 striker), will score a barrowful in the SPL … but the midfiled is where our problems have been for the past few seasons ….
We have defensive mids (who sit so deep, and play almost like an extra CB … think Crosas), or mids who are really more a false no. 9 (like Commons), and lots of mids who are more widemen (where they play, not their character) …. so I often find there is a hole in the centre of the park, and too much of our play is forced down the wings…
And because so much of the build-up has been slow, by the time the ball gets to the strikers, they have to check their runs, and end up stationary, with their backs to the goal and one or two defenders on them…. hard for any striker to score many like that …
(which is also why KC has scored so many … he is clever enough as a footballer, and confident enough to shoot … to be able to exploit this space)…
Think he is a great player, but I would rather have my 2 strkers score 20 goals each, than 1 midfielder/striker score 35…
A few seasons ago, because there was this gap in the middle of the park, and there weren’t a lot of chances being created, AS began dropping farther and farther back to try to get more involved in the buildup ….
I am hoping that RD’s new way of playing will take address this imbalance … and sometimes the old way (slow sideways passing) still creeps in (most noticably in the last game) …. but I think RD is going to really change things … and when he does, I think we will see how good LG, AS and TP (who I think is a really player) really are (I have to admit I am still unsure about AB, but remain hopeful as he has a physical presence the other strikers dont).
I think Biton is going to develop into a top notch midfielder … and not sure, but maybe Johansen beside him for a season… although I would like to see Liam Henderson given a run in the middle… see real potential there!
…. damn! It feels good to be back!

MIKE IN TORONTO
Please do,bud.
You are both missed.
Especially on the nightshift.
I notice the hoops are providing ‘An Overseas Season Card’ for £250 a Season
For the said amount one gets access to five home matches a Season’s subscription
to the Hoops TV a name plaque & a certificate not a bad deal when you consider that
individual home match tickets are nearly £30 each & hoops TV subscription is probably
a tenner (£10) per calendar month so ten times a tenner is £100 + Nearly £150 for the
five home match package + the additional name plaque + cert is not a bad deal what do
you all think?HH
Did I ever mention my da gave me the following first names Ralph Hugh (McXxx)
As soon as I was old enough to change my first names by deid pole I changed them to the single “Patrick”
On the “Reason for change” section of the change form I wrote. ” My faither had a sick sense of humour”

Big cup ….
Not good enough for the SPL? Considering that most of us could probably score a few against some of the SPL defences, that’s pretty harsh! :)

The OSCard or Ticket is a steal.
You missed the best bit. The Celtic Foundation offer your seat to local community projects to let folk who cannot afford to attend use your seat.
I’ve a long post on my laptop that I’ll post later.
I take the view that if it was not for regular match day attendees I would have no team to watch when abroad and given its only about an extra £70 on the annual Celtic TV subscription for overseas supporters it is a great way to share the load of supporting across the support spectrum.
One day I hope it becomes a standard offering at a standard price to all supporters regardless of geography.
Spread the load.
Yeah Mike from Toronto who supports wee Oscar bless him T.P. is another not a prolific goal scorer but he has good movement off of the ball which is a plus factor for T.P. As for the midfield yes we need a holding player in the midfield preferable along with a play-maker & your right we need to be more direct instead of side to side passage of play
Yeah Auldheid the O.S.S-Card certainly is a good deal.

With this new job I am working 6 days a week at the minute. Do not know how longer it will continue for, it could be just the summer or it could be more permanent I just do not know. Would love to get up for a game but don’t know when it might happen. Will be in touch.
I’m sure that if the Overseas Season Card package is a success then I’m sure that said
offer will be an on-going offer
Happy Birthday Cqn,

Mike in Toronto….
welcome back. Great to see a football post on here.
Midfield has been a problem for a long time. Mowbrey, Strachan and the early part of NL’s time saw us with 2 wingers. This left us with 2 centre mids. Isolated. Scottish teams would stick 5 guys in midfield and we’d be swamped.
Latterly, Neil had 3 guys in there. Brown, Mulgrew, Ledley (now Johansson). This definitely worked better from a defensive point of view, and we had much more control over the game. To highlight this…..just think of the great improvement in Scott Brown’s game. Yes, some comes from natural maturity.
However, as one of 2 mids, miles away from the wingers, he looked terrible. Doesn’t do that 25 yard pass, and can’t tackle.
Put him in as one of three….all of a sudden, the passes are now 10 yards. The defensive game becomes intercepting, rather than tackling.
The world cup showed us how this can work, if you have pace and intelligence. When the opposition get the ball, press hard and fast, when that doesn’t work, the 3 becomes 5, leaving one striker up top.
I don’t think we have an out and out striker, so that might not work for us. Stokes isn’t the sharpest tool either, so that doesn’t help.
I am not sure what Ronny is doing as yet. Looks too much like 2 in the middle (oh dear), with Griffiths and McGregor wide. (Waste of what talent LG does have).
That being said, the new coach needs time. I am willing to give him another week…..:)
Owen
no problem hope the job continues and you get a chance to get up

Just a quick visit to offer belated congratulations on this 10th anniversary.
Might I also add that I have a hunch that the noble profession of marriage counselling has been having a whale of a time this past decade.
You have a lot to answer for …

Hey Guys, I asked on the article from Yesterday if there were any spare tickets on here for tomorrow night as I am just back from being out of the country and thought I would miss the game but now won’t. I noticed that one was but has now gone. Does anyone else need to sell one if they cant make it. I am in Edinburgh so can meet at game or tomorrow during the day if needed.

Like you, I dont think the 2 mids with 2 wingers formation has worked well for us …. as you say, it has ended up with our midfield being overwhelmed by lesser teams (while our 4 forwards were effectively cut out of the game)….
I have to admit that I have never been Scott Brown’s biggest fan … I love his attitude and his energy, but I dont think he has the necessary football intelligence to run our midfiled …. however, to be fair, we now know what he was dealing with off the park … and recently, we have seen more/glimpses of the player we all hoped he would become when he signed..
he definitely adds some steel, energy and attitude …so perhaps a midfiled three of Johansen (left), biton (middle) and brown (right) could be a good way to go … but then do you go with a flat back four, or a big three at the back and 2 wingbacks (matthews and izzie)?

Would be delighted to meet up, met Sannabhoy and Bankiebhoy1 in that very pub.
