Jim Goodwin’s proper football team

354

In their last four outings, St Mirren won 1-5 at Tannadice, 1-2 at Celtic Park and beat Kilmarnock 2-0.  Their only points dropped was a 1-2 home defeat to Hibs after going down to 10 men early in the game.  You will not need to be reminded how Celtic teams in better form have struggled at St Mirren Park against home teams in significantly poorer form.  Or that St Mirren are the only Scottish club to beat Newco this season.

Jim Goodwin has built a proper football team* that will take points off anyone who arrives ill prepared for the task.  I find the odds, which favour a Celtic win, a tad ambitious.

*St Mirren baiting will resume when appropriate.

  1. The Boxer that Hot Smoked googled was Ernie Terrell

He was born in Inverness, in Sunflower County, Mississippi.

His sister was Jean Terrell who became lead singer with the Supremes when Diana left.

I reckon Bognor Bhoy guessed it as he posted the vid of Jean singing “Up the ladder to the roof”, (she also sang lead on Nathan Jones, Floy Joy and the wonderful Stoned Love) a minute before Hot Smoked googled the answer.

  2. SFTB

Just to be clear, I did NOT Google the answer ; I Googled in search of the answer…..and failed ! According to my search, though, ET was born in Belzoni, Mississippi.

  3. Bhoy From The Boyne on

I wouldn’t dismiss Frank Lampard’s record. He wouldn’t be my first choice but I would hope club would speak to him as part of wide ranging search with an open mind. The whole English media circus might be a pain but worth it if he was successful. Would also increase Celtic’s profile.

Most important thing I feel is that club restructure into DOF/Head coach model. Create a long term philosophy / culture where head coaches can slip in & out over time without disrupting the entire football operations. Learn from BR walking out and taking almost entire backroom staff and subsequent events that lead to where we find ourselves today.

    According to the Guardian Obituary:-

“One of 10 children, Terrell was born in Inverness, Mississippi, and grew up in nearby Belzoni. His father, a sharecropper, moved the family to Chicago and worked in a factory. By the time he graduated from Farragut academy, Terrell had won the Chicago Golden Gloves as a light-heavyweight, and begun his professional career as a heavyweight. He had also formed a singing group, the Heavyweights, with his sister Jean and brothers JC and Leonard.”

  5. Fess- Caldwell came out with the same phrase on Shortbread recently, where he has more chance of any employment, and he’s getting a gig with Celtic TV, get him tae….

  6. Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. (born August 3, 1977) is an American football quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). He spent the first 20 seasons of his career with the New England Patriots, where he was a central contributor to the franchise’s dynasty from 2001 to 2019. Brady is widely considered to be the greatest quarterback of all time.[1]

He Cites that his Celtic daft father named him after Gemmell, McGrory and Tully, and all he ever really wanted to do was pull on the hoops.

He is a very divisive figue on Patriots Quick News, who claim he is not a legend at all, and a sneak for joining another team.

    aye dont you forget it.

  8. Managers who won the league in their first season ?

Happens all the time at Celtic, what you afraid of ?

  9. My worry, we sell all the players who want away and those we think we can do without. We bring in say £40m total but do our usual and only spend a percentage. I’d say the most we’ll spend will be circa £15m with the rest going to “the overhead”

That sum will allow us a maximum 3 semi decent players, the rest of the squad will then be made up of academy, free transfers and loans. I just don’t see a quick way out of this malaise

  10. Go tell the Spartim on

None of the players mentioned are stand outs in most SPFL company. Think it’ll be a mixture of purchases and loans, Kenny might stay as RB but like your article purely conjecture

  11. GEEBEE,

Really,Derby finished 10th in the Championship, before Lampard. One season,he took them to the play off finals, and got narrowly beat by Villa, after winning 4-2 at Leeds. In his 1st season at Chelsea he took a team of kids to 4th in the EPL,and CL.2nd season, qualified top of CL group, topped the EPL in December.A couple of defeats, and draws, dropped them down to 9th,but still in with a great chance for top 4 again.3 wins since he left, and they are again 1 point behind Liverpool.By the way,Derby sitting 22nd in Championship.

Not an interesting take on it,facts.Fantastic achievements in 1 and half years managing,no matter what way you look at it.

Interesting to hear Alan Shearers comments on Moyes when taking over at W. Ham . Insisted on all his players being at peak fitness , any who didn’t buy into it would be out the door .

I’m not sure the consternation on here was justified when he was linked with us last time .

First single I bought , Not Fade Away , The Stones .

  14. BADA. BING ,2 Match ban for Ajeti ,who told him that ,or did he make it up himself,Like the other day he said McInnes getting sacked today Tuesday ,😳😳😳

Sorry, forgot one more Lampard stat,in taking Chelsea to 4th in the EPL,he finished 4 points clear of a certain, much vaunted,Brendan Rodgers.

  16. Neil Lennon of all the seasons ie 10 in a row ,he with his after match comments about certain players not trying and no longer wanting to be at the club ,comes down to one man ,and that is Neil Lennon, and for the life of me I can’t understand why he is still employed at Celtic.

I think your valuations are way, way off the mark.

20 or so points behind the runaway leaders and our team is still worth mega millions.

    Don’t think so.

£20m for Eddy? I’m still laughing at the rest of your valuations.

How many offers did we get in the window just past?

    Or the previous window?

Finances are tough at football clubs the world over due to covid19 and don’t look like they will improve any time soon, so who is putting up that amount of cash for runners up at best?

    Dream on mate!
