Jo Inge Berget in ahead of Legia

715

As always, it’s important to get the players you want, not end up with fourth or fifth choice, so on that measure, I’m happy Ronny Deila has secured a player he knows well. Jo Inge Berget is a wide attacking player, who will fit into the manager’s high-tempo, pressing, style of play.

The deal, a loan which gives Celtic the option to sign the player permanently if he’s successful, places incentives in the right places.

Enjoyed watching the cycling this week? Why don’t you sign up for the Paradise to Cardenden Cycle, which takes place on 6 September. Details here. You’ll enjoy it, and do great things for the Foundation.

Welcome to Celtic, Jo.

    Loans are not ideal but they are better than nothing.

    The buy option would be a get out clause for RD.

    Could be a case that PL wants to see a bit of form before he signs the the cheque

    The ghost of MAF must still give him a cold sweat.

    1. If it could be demonstrated to the non blogging support that the titles Rangers won in 1999 and 2003 were won using players paid by unlawful methods to pay them (irregular ebts) then would the support wish those titles removed?

    2. If it could be demonstrated that Rangers concealed the unlawful ebts from the Lord Nimmo Smith enquiry (this misleading him) should those titles go to Celtic to serve justice?

    Sorry, but “not ideal” is not the same as “dead against”, as I’m sure you well know.

    As seanoc says, the deal here is a ‘try before you buy’ one – not a case of developing talent for another club.

    Think this is good business 6 months try before you buy with a prearranged transfer fee – what’s not to like given the millions we have spent on 3 strikers recently

    Ronnie said loans are not ideal as you are developing another clubs player – not if you have an option to buy

    Would love to see us sign Brede Hangerland if we got 2 years service from him our players would learn an immense amount from a great defender feel he is well worth the wages

    Sorry I don’t see Biton as an enforcer in midfield and I would be disappointed if we tried to make him into one – kid is a fantastic footballer and a creator with an excellent football brain – tackling is not great tho

    Now I firmly believe Celtic should live within their means, but a blind man ( no disrespect to any blind people, my own Da included ) can see a major downsizing ( cost cutting) going on.

    Why when we are not losing money ?

    And we should be doing much much better with signings, if we had better in place, it would only take 1 or 2 decent players each season to keep us ticking along, hopefully supplemented with some youth coming through

    With respect I think Ronnie’s comments were about loans where you work with a player, improve them and then the parent club picks up the benefit with “us” having no control over what happens next with that player.

    With this deal, we have absolute control as to what happens next as either we exercise the buy clause ( in which case no one else can buy him and he becomes our player permanently at a pre agreed price ) or we don’t — in which case anyone else can come in after our interest has ended.

    I think that is a strong position to be in.

    I have met Weefra once at Celtic Park and I mean no disrespect to the man when I say that it is as plain as the nose on your face that he is as far removed from being a snob as I am from being from being from Vietnam — and I have never been to Vietnam!

    Bada Bing. Did you see Craig Gordon in the first half of the friendly match he played in ? I thought he looked superb and if Forster goes we have a good replacement. If Forster stays Craig Gordon will keep him on his toes so in my opinion he was a good signing. Also we have not finished bringing in new players in this window but Rony believes everyone deserves a chance before he brings in new faces who must be better than what we already have keep the Faith Fella it will work out dont let the Negs wear you down. I personally would prefer to see Charlie in there than Efe, big Mikael Lustig can also play CH, so we have options if any of the current – VVD or Efe had to be sold

    SeanOC, BigGeorges Fan Club,

    I believe that Berget has played for Ronny Deila before. Ronny will therefore be familiar with the player`s capabilities so a 6 month loan deal with an option to buy is either:

    a less than ringing endorsement on Ronny`s part, or;

    the best that could be done with existing finances before our Champions League fate and income for this season is known.

    Its just my opinion but I don`t think that you get the best out of players when they are on loan with their longer term future up in the air. We don`t have a good track record with this type of signing – Henri Camara, El Kaddouri, Brozek, Edson Braafheid, Diomansy Kamara etc

    The only successful loan signing that I recall us converting to a full signing was Georgios Samaras.

    ==========

    Auldheid – haven’t conversed before, but admire your knowledge and determined work on this.

    From speaking to pals who don’t use social media / Celtic sites (a completely unscientific and probably unrepresentative sample, I grant you) I’d say:

    1. Most would want titles stripped (humiliate the Buns factor)

    2. Most would want the titles (see above)

    3. A bit more difficult to say. If the evidence was conclusive, and accepted as such by the SFA (I know), and/or the judicial system (I know, I know), then 1. and 2. above would apply. If, however, the evidence was “only” from “a Celtic blogger” – no matter how cast-iron and conclusive that evidence was – then it would be too easily ignored (as has been the case ’till now).

    It needs to be big and clear and illegal enough that it cannot be swept under the carpet or glossed over. Given what they have been able to gloss over so far, that’s difficult.

    All of that said, you do, however, seem to have them boxed into a wee bit of a corner at the moment, though, which is VERY nice :-)))
