Joe Baker, Hargreaves, Fraser, playing to the galleries

908

Neil Lennon’s suggestion that fostering Fraser Forster from a lower-league loaner to an England international is “one of the best things [he’s] been involved with as a manager” is difficult to dispute, despite his various trophies and Champions League exploits.

Owen Hargreaves earned an England cap before he made an appearance in either of England’s top two divisions, although he was playing with European champions, Bayern Munich at the time.  Hargreaves and Lanarkshire’s Joe Baker are the only two to have been capped for England without playing in any of the country’s four leagues.  I’ve no idea if there are any others to have earned a cap without having played in the top two division but there must be precious few.

In short, Fraser’s appearance between the sticks on Friday was exceptional.  We can now help fulfil the international ambitions of English players, just as long as we continue to compete in the Champions League.

Playing to the galleries

There’s a great line in the movie, Wall St, when Martin Sheen says, “If you live long enough you get to see everything”.  Today we got to see the incredible sight of Craig Whyte’s former PR, who represented him before and during his Outstanding Contribution to Scotland, who in fact, represented him well before this, when Whyte was stalking STV as they teetered on the brink of oblivion, use Twitter to turn on another member of the Whyte coterie, for being a part of the Whyte coterie.

It reads like playing to the gallery, which the Daily Record, is a particularly useful punch bag for.  No one cares what you say about the Daily Record, so exploit a common enemy and pile on.  Tub thumping like this is embarrassing.

Puppet master

It will be interesting to see if the Record investigate who first suggested Whyte turned his attention to Rangers, after his STV ambitions ended….

  1. Hebcelt.

I’ve heard a lot about the Stornoway Black pudding,I wouldn’t mind requiring some but I have a problem,I’m not guaranteed to go home after the game.

Setting FreeThe Bears will be thinking,um, that’s a bit bigger than Cucumber.

I heard Jim Delahunt saying Celtic were 5 minutes from being closed down. Something along the lines of I was in the room when Michael Kelly took the phone call from B of S saying they were about to foreclose. Did MK have it on speaker. I also went to the Celts for Change meetings and Willie Haughey stated both he and Gerald Weisfeld and or Fergus McCann would never have allowed Celtic to close down. The same way you accurately described his appearance on SSB which I also heard.

Someone also mentioned a quote from Animal Farm today. I think the MSM try to do the same as the pigs in trying to rewrite history.

Dougiegate. Ultimately the ref got the decision correct.

Bombs and bullets. Neil Lennon brings a lot of this on himself.

Liquidation. It was only the company that died etc.

Incidentally I picked up two guys from the Jury’s Inn and took them to Ashton Lane the night NL was attacked. There was a lot of media guys saying at the time that he shouldn’t have been out that night and basically been at home hiding under the blankets. The two guys were Neil’s mate’s from Lurgan and this was their only chance to meet up over the weekend. Even if a story like this have been printed I doubt it would have suited the MSM. Their take was he shouldn’t have been out. End of.

    Sorry for the rant.

  3. Oldtim67 I think SFTB is confusing lemon/lime with cucumber at least I hope he is!! Going through his confused period I fear, although gin soaked black pudding has a certain appeal!! Hail Hail Hebcelt

  4. boscobhoy02-keep on ranting :) , i’m sure the old regime were using every trick in the book to increase their buyout, possibly including the 5 minutes from closure BS.HH

The gin is Scottish, so is the Black pudding, I think Hendricks is distilled in Scotland.

Hendrick’s Gin is a brand of gin produced by William Grant & Sons in Girvan, Scotland, and launched in 1999.[1] In addition to the traditional juniper infusion, Hendrick’s uses Bulgarian rose and cucumber to add flavour. Hendrick’s gin is bottled in a dark brown apothecary-style bottle.

It really is a schoolboy error to write to HMRC on headed paper which claims the new club you are representing was formed in 1872.

The tax authorities are not noted for their humour and that will be viewed as sticking two big fingers up at HMRC.

Chuckles played a blinder … or was it Craigie’s idea?

  12. I had been reading CQN for over 5 years and while it was always my intention to join, it was one of those many things in life that I never quite got my attention. I had been initially attracted to the site as I found it informative, humourous, intelligent (no sniggering at the back now!) and I enjoyed the apparent community spirit. The only other forum sites I tend to visit are KDS and TSFM (before that RTC). However seeing the photograph of Miki 67 on the big screen before the Barca game was an epiphanic moment for me. Here was a guy whose posts and contributions I had enjoyed but I never got to know. Seeing his picture I recall thinking I really must join CQN now. That task was recently accomplished. Tickets now reserved for the 10 dinner although not sure Mrs HdP will appreciate her Christmas gift!

Anyway now for a wee story. Friday morning after the day before. Breakfast consumed we returned to the Hotel room and my Dad asked, “ Do you want to go and see the Team away”

“ That would be great” I replied (cool had a different meaning back then).

Outside the weather was warm and sunny, as it had been all week, as we embarked on the short stroll to the Hotel where the Team was staying. Turning a corner I saw a coach parked outside the Hotel. I could also see a few members of Hotel staff assisting the last passengers board the bus. As we got closer I recognised many faces at the windows, faces up to then I had only seen from a distance. On seeing us the faces smiled and their hands started waving. My left hand tightly grasped my Dad’s hand. Nervously my right hand went into the air and I waved back. Walking around to the other side of the bus we were greeted by the passengers in a similar manner, smiles and waves. I again responded, this time less nervously. We only had to wait for a few minutes until the bus departed, its passengers still smiling and waving at us and into history.

And that, my dear friends, is the day a group of men to be immortalised as the Lisbon Lions) waved to a happy 9 year old Bhoy.

  13. Benefits of Commonwealth Games to Celtic continue to delight FFers:

    “Commonwealth Games spin-off for Celtic.

Temporary coach parking arrangements have been announced for Celtic supporters’ buses to enable stadium enhancements prior to the Commonwealth Games.

Upgrades will include the demolition of B listed London Road school, a new coach park which Celtic will inherit and a tree lined walkway to the stadium.

Demolition of the buildings on the school site will permit construction of a superstore, museum and cafe for Celtic Football Club.”

    ——

“It’s the start of several state-aid freebies they’re going to get from the Commonwealth sadly.”

    ——

“And to think a large section of working class Protestants vote these corrupt [chaps] into power at every council election.”

    ——

“We must continue to harass the UEFA’s of the world.”

    ——

“With a bigger help from the Protestant planks who voted RC bigots into power.

People were telling us on this forum when the CG bid were made what it was all about and the ramifications. Most refused to listen.

Look also at how the [Celts] are getting updated?

It’s not a big £10m sweep over in the one go. It is rather, a wee bit here, a wee bit there, and then when the Calvinist Somnambulist nods off yet again, and they’ll add in a wee bit more.”

    ——

“The time to wise up was 50 years ago.”

    ——

“The penny is only sinking in now”

Just remember dear working, class Rangers fan; you voted for this.

Sounds like Alex Salmond is in charge of your drinks cabinet.

With the recipe suggestions on here getting more madcap, wee Heston Blumenthal will be trolling on here to steal the ideas.

We’ll need to throw him off the scent by adding rubbish ingredients.

I think we should add turmeric.

    Scottish turmeric obviously

  15. Blackpudding
