Johansen and Denayer step up

668

Congratulations to Scotland’s Player of the Year, Stefan Johansen, and Young Player of the Year, Jason Denayer.  It’s fair to say Stefan had an underwhelming first eight months in Scotland, but the turnaround since October has been stark.

It was during our home defeat to Hamilton Accies that month that I noticed a change in his game.  He took on more responsibility and pressed incessantly for the equaliser.  The next game, away to Ross County, was a Johansen virtuoso performance and he’s never looked back.

There was a similar ‘So what?’ reaction to Jason’s early season performances.  Performances were far more like Efe Ambrose than Virgil van Dijk, but he grew increasingly assured as the season progressed.  His international debut two months ago was merited.

Manchester City want him back for next season, where he’ll be second reserve for central defence.  On the upside, he’ll get six games, some of which will be in the cups against lower league opponents.  If City and the player want to map a route to the first team, this is a step in the process, but it’s not without its risks to the player.

“Haven’t Newco been punished enough for the sins of the directors of Oldco?”

I didn’t realise Newco had been punished at all. I believed a new club applied to play in Scottish football ,been accepted and started their way through the leagues.

dont suppose that Martin Hannan will be getting an invite or embraced at CQN coarnir for the forseeable future. I am sure he is going to lose an awfy lot of sleep over that

If the King was to be dethroned , i suspect it would have happened by now .

IMHO it looks as though he has been asked to re-write his job application.

I suspect he will be approved, and whilst that may cause a furore, the ultimate implications for us will be minimal – a 7 year repair job might become 5, but thats only to catch up with where we are now.

Big thing is to make sure we put daylight between them and us.

  4. The author of that article says Whyte put Rangers on the brink of extinction. Apart from questioning the inaccuracy, I’d love to ask him what needed to happen for them to actually go extinct, and how that differs from what transpired.

    Hard times —————

Went to a beach yesterday afternoon . Left the mad Inter supporting old codger from down the valley in my house so he could watch Inter 0 Chievo 0

When I got back to the house, he was mightily miffed but reasonably calm . He then switched channels to watch the Mancini post match presser . Cue Mancini talking absolute guff re playing well and doing everything but scoring .That was followed by even worse guff re Inter doing great things next season. The old codger went absolutely ballistic -ranting and screaming at the tele in a mixture of Sicilian and Italian . So much so , I was worried about his dicky heart . He eventually calmed down and got stuck into his home made vino collapso.( I refuse to touch the stuff / Mrs S of T uses it to clean the windows ) . Feared he was going to be on the couch for the night ———– but a Hey -I want to watch the cricket got rid of him..He left cursing Mancini .

  6. Just read that load of tosh by Martin Hannan.

One thing that strikes me about the reporting of Oldco’s demise is that reluctance to use the “L” word.

“Administration” is used frequently (on many occasions hinting that Oldco actually escaped from it).

Martin H is another who can’t quite bring himself to mention it, and I loved this gem, talking about Craig Whyte…..

“…..long before he drove the club to the brink of extinction”

I think he managed to take it a bit further than “the brink” Martin…….

As regards the huns 9IAR, there were very few rumblings about it being unhealthy for competition within the Scottish game. Most of the SMSM attention focused on Celtic’s off field problems and how Murray’s Millions would get Rangers to the “next stage in Europe”.

Their run coincided with the worst financial time in Celtic’s history. The first SEVEN of these seasons, Celtic never once finished 2nd – yet there was no talk of titles being devalued, 1 horse race monotony etc in these heady days.

Enjoy these times, my friends in the Celtic Family.

I don’t doubt it. Most of us on here are Tims.

Few if any would have written that article.

That is what we are up against in Scottish football. Whether it be referees or journalists, they curiously do not promote their team the same way that certain others do.

    That,I have no problem with.

But they seem IMO to push the agenda against us.

Me personally I would never want to join a club that didnae want me. And no matter how hard they try, people from a Celtic background can do us down time and again and still never be accepted.

If Celtic had been liquidated in the 90’s would the media have demanded change to help us? Could you imagine ex Oldco players coming out saying it would be better if the rules were bent to help us? Not a hope in hell.

He has a regular column in the Embra Evening News – in general I like his stuff (he rarely discusses football in it but when he does, hints at a liking for Hibs).

I quite believe he is a Tim, but it’s disappointing then that here is yet another hack from a Celtic background that feels he has to pander to the majority in Scotland and give them what they want to read.

He ain’t no Glenn Gibbons, that’s for sure.

I meant that about Ronnie. I guarantee there will be a lot of interest in him. Apart from winning the League it’s the style of play he employs. I have to say last Friday night was one of the best performances of pure football that has been played by Celtic in a long while. The five goals were pure class even the penalty was put away the way penalties should be.

I don’t doubt he’s a Tim.We live in a democracy and he’s more than entitled to his opinion. The problem I have is that rules were put in place by clubs who, never for one moment ,felt that they would be on the wrong side of them. Now the unthinkable has happened these rules must be tweaked, changed for the supposed benefit of all.Again I have no problem with anyone who believes this but what has happened is a demonising of those who believe otherwise. We’re small minded, bigots who are trying to destroy our national game by demanding that the rules be followed.

Liquidation? I thought it was just ‘administration problems’ they had, and that it was all a long time ago and they’ve moved on since then? Surely the old SMSM wouldn’t be kiddin us all on….? What a shower.
