John Mason MSP to infirm Celtic fan on parking ban: support another team

392

A retired Celtic season ticket holder, Gordon, who travels to games from Newcastle, emailed the club last week to explain that he is unable to walk for more than 10 minutes, and as a consequence of the proposed parking ban around Celtic Park on match days, he would be unable to attend games in future.

Gordon explained how Dalmarnock Station was not a viable option and that public bus provision in the area is totally inadequate.

He forwarded his email to John Mason, MSP for Glasgow Shettleston in the hope that the SNP politician would do what he could to help infirm visitors to the area, but he got the most incredible response from Mason: “Could you think of supporting a smaller more local club that would appreciate your adding to their crowd?”

On every level, this is appalling.  Mason could not care less when presented with evidence that this policy would prejudice the disabled.  Instead, he suggested someone who visits the city on a regular basis, stays local to Newcastle and supports another team.

He cannot suggest public transport is appropriate, because trains and buses do not have the capacity or frequency, all he can do is ignore the fact that the man is infirm, ignore that he is brining money into the local economy, concentrate on the fact that he is an unwelcome Celtic supporter and tell him to stay in England.

If you travel to Celtic Park along London Road from the south or the east, this is the NEAREST spot cars will be able to park on match days.  Cars will start parking here, opposite the cemetery entrance, and anyone disabled who is unable to walk the distance will be prevented from attending.

This is one of the most stupid proposals conceived by politicians who care nothing about the people they are paid to serve.

They don’t care that they have not provided adequate public transport.

They don’t care that they have prejudiced the disabled.

They don’t care that they will displace parking from one area to another.

They don’t want you supporting Celtic and have backed themselves into a corner. God forbid they admit they have made a mistake and actually help those too infirm to walk great distances, or too poor to afford corporate parking facilities.

  1. I understand the issue with parking in residential areas around Celtic Park. But why are fans being restricted from parking in industrial areas such as Nuneaton Street? That is just ludicrous

welcome tr = amazing news – a genuine talent wants to stay – must say a lot about the club

  5. Wasn’t overly bothered about which of tonight’s teams ended up in next year’s top flight but had decided to favour Partick Thistle. However I do think that they have benefited greatly from a number of refereeing decisions tonight leading me to feel a wee bit sorry for Livi. 22 minutes of the first leg left and still 1-1.

Jobo Are Livi still clogging and fouling as they were in the dundee utd game?thought then they will bring nothing positive to the top league

1971 mate! IMHO Sticky Fingers was peak Stones. Moonlight Mile is my fave Stone track, although to be honest I’m not a massive fan. I find Mick’s vocal style a little to annoying. And his dancing. :-)))

  8. Leftie – that was my opinion too. They still ‘play to their strengths’ but some better football has also broken out tonight. Occasionally ;-)

  9. Livi coming up has its benefits for away supporters,

they will happily let us fill the ground,

  10. Was in Salford when that game took place. The local TV on the morning were interviewing them in the morning. They thought all the sectarian chanting was just nice wee songs. They soon learned the mind set that lay behind the wee ditties.

Fortunately, the locals themselves didn’t lump all Scots (or even Glaswegians) together.

By the way, Big Packy, a lot of them stayed the night before in Blackpool. They tried to trash the Sacred Heart Church there. As it was closed, they smashed up the wee “holy” shop beside it, which sold the likes of Rosaries and Bibles.

UEFA took no action against them because their vandalism took place outside the football ground.

It is also Arctic Monkeys night on Radio X with Alex Turner on their new album release.

It reminds me of my favourite tribute band name. Guys I went to Saint Tams with, are called The Partick Junkies.

Yes,similar to my thoughts. But I still rate SOME GIRLS,so had to go to pre-1978.

I’d probably go for BEGGARS BANQUET as my favourite, but it’s difficult to argue with the Top 6 here. Maybe wi a shuffle of positions, mind.

Hope my home team go up . Livi have been one of the most direct teams going forward and the SPFL could do with more teams like them. To be honest, BR could take a few tips on how to play non pussyfooting football and get more cross balls into the box. ………just the basics I guess. C’mon the Livi!

  15. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

Sheesh, what about the spectacle at Almondvale?

Two teams that should not exist as professional organisations booting a ball from end to end in an attempt to gain/retain ‘top Flight status’.

Livingston is what, 20 odd miles from Glasgow and between them both teams’ supporters can only half fill a few cow sheds.

Terrible spectacle from 2 teams that/would add nothing to the league.

I admit to being very surprised when I first found that out, which was relatively recently. I mean,it’s nearly 50 years ago,she must have been in The Girl Guides at the time!

And,wouldn’t it have been better suited to MacArthur Park?

Anyway,as I said-when they were good, they were great. But reading back on the listings, they were bloody awful at times too.
