There were so many stand-out performances for Celtic last weekend that they are easy to overlook. Daizen Maeda, Paulo Bernardo, Kyogo, Nicolas Khun, Liam Scales, both full backs and Callum McGregor returned outstanding performances. Kasper Schmeichel even had a late cameo, which he completed without fuss.
Just when you were beginning to feel good about next week’s Champions League opener, Alistair Johnston limped off during Canada’s historic win over the USA, their first on US soil since 1957. Reports from Canada suggest Alistair was hooked as a precaution, after feeling a tight hamstring, with hopes that he will be fit for Wednesday’s friendly against Mexico.
There is no friendly important enough to risk a player with a tight hamstring. Brendan Rodgers will hopefully express these views to Alistair, before the game.
Cameron Carter-Vickers was absent for the US, a consequence of the strain he picked up against Newco. Auston Trusty was an unused substitute for a USA lacklustre side. I would be quite happy if both continued to be overlooked by whoever takes over from interim manager, Mikey Varas.
Mauricio Pochettino is expected to be appointed to the post this week. He was at Spurs during Cameron Carter-Vickers development years there, although Cameron never made an appearance for the club. No harm to Cameron’s international aspirations, but hopefully, ‘Poch’ continues to overlook our defensive MVP.

Why hello there Monday!
5 sleeps until we host the salt n sauce huns. 3pm KO as well!
HH!
Good afternoon all from ma hoose.
When is board going to release how much cash they have in the bank ,I thought they were going to show them this month, I’m just curious to see how they spend it on.
BRRB
What time drinks cabinet open?
BRRB in “stays at home” shocker.
Read all about it in tomorrows leader.
around 22nd september for the last fiscal year accounts, as per normal timing.
nothing held bakl, late, hidden,
a;; perfectly normal and honest.
Brendan Rodgers and the supporters getting what they deserved to strengthen a greatly improved highly coached side, Celtic suddenly have a look of invincibility. Guarding against complacency comes with the territory, of bread and butter league encounters. Hearts nose dived after holding cousins deddy bear at Tynecastle on the opening day, but they still owe us points from last season.
Fascinating team selection options with nobody remotely droppable, there will likely be a pair of £20M players warming the plastic seats, another first for Brendan’s Celtic. Eagle eyed pre season supporters spotted Adam Idah’s dip in fitness, no rush the Celtic bench is from where he made his name, but as the price goes up it’s more difficult to see Arne Engels crave game time?
The rangy Belgian was on the pitch long enough to show a glimpse of what’s to come in the Hoops. His introduction, a red flag for John Beaton and his laughable loyal yellow card. Nicolas Kuhn the main winger dovetails brilliantly with Alistair Johnston, the Canadian must surely be in line for a new Celtic deal along the same route as went Hatate CCV Kyogo and £30M man Matt.
Looking forward to more of the much improved match day experience.
St Stivs
Don’t be daft. There will be something hidden. Everyone knows we have a corrupt board who tell us nothing. We are all kept in the dark. Corrupt and incompetent. If only we were run like Ajax or Rangers or Copenhagen and we would be happy in the Conference League or even Europa and playing at our own level.

England’s bowling attack has been poor- Bashir should have bowled more.
Pope is no cricket captain at this level.
But all credit to Sri Lanka for a first class batting display this morning and bowling out engerland so cheaply yesterday
Bournesouprecipe
Right about guarding against complacency.
I have hear some say Slovan are an easy draw. A team like ours with a budget like ours and a squad like ours should steamroller them. Is the chat.
They are from a country which was a minute away from eliminating England in euros.
They have won 4 games to reach this stage. Beating champs of Denmark Slovenia and Macedonia en route.
This is the biggest thing in their history. Massive for all involved.
No easy games in the CL.
Gene
Agreed.
I was lucky enough to see a couple of days at the Oval in 98 the last time the Lankans were there. One of the best games of test cricket ever. Yet rarely spoken about.
Celtic building up money in the bank must be for good reasons. The policy had been to spend all monies on the football side of the business.
When Brian Quinn was chairman he clearly stated that we would not pay a dividend on ordinary shares and would spend all monies on the playing field.
Now for the first time we seem to be in surplus funds and we have been for a little while now.
Has our policy changed? If so, what do we need it for and why at this time. I know we deal with a hostile media but there has to be a way to explain this shift in policy to the fans including shareholders
celtic plc simply put are cash rich because everything they do makes money,
3m for mikey johnston, i mean we cant help ouyrselves
Equal shares – starting fee (€670m)
Each of the 36 clubs that qualify for the league phase can expect to receive a league
phase allocation of €18.62m, split into a down-payment of €17.87m and a balance
of €750k.
There were so many stand-out performances for Celtic last weekend that they are easy to overlook
——
Indeed. You continue to overlook a Celtic manager with 1 defeat in 19 games against The Rangers.
Performance-related amounts (€914m)
• League phase performance bonuses will be paid for each match: €2.1m per win
and €700k per draw. Undistributed amounts (€700k per draw) will be allocated
proportionally to the league phase ranking referred to in the next bullet point.
• In addition, there is a new league ranking bonus: each team will be paid an
amount based on their final ranking in the league phase. The total amount
available for the league ranking bonus is divided into 666 equal shares
(1+2+3+…+35+36). The initial value of each share will be €275k. The lowestranked team will receive one share (€275k). One share will be added to every
rank and so the highest ranked team will receive 36 shares. Any savings from
draws in the league phase (see above bullet point) will proportionally increase
the initial value of the shares distributed to each position.
• On top of the league ranking bonuses, clubs 1 to 8 in the league ranking will
receive an additional €2m and clubs 9 to 16 will receive an additional €1m.
• Clubs that qualify for the knockout stage can expect to receive the following
amounts:
− qualification for the knockout round play-offs: €1m per club
− qualification for the round of 16: €11m per club
− qualification for the quarter-finals: €12.5m per club
− qualification for the semi-finals: €15m per club
− qualification for the final: €18.5m per club
• The UCL winners can expect to receive an additional €6.5m.
• The two clubs that qualify for the 2024 SCUP can each expect to receive €4m,
with the winners receiving an additional €1m
Value pillar (€853m)
The new value pillar is a combination of the former market pool (country market
value) and coefficient (individual club coefficients) pillars. The value pillar comprises
two parts:
– European part
– Non-European part
The amounts allocated to the two parts will be proportional to the actual outcome
of the media rights sales for that competition in UEFA markets (European part) and
all other markets (non-European part). The ratio between the European part and
the non-European part will be based on the contracts concluded with media
markets for the whole cycle by 1 July 2024. For example, if in UCL the value of all
European media rights is 75% of the overall media rights revenues, the value pillar
for the competition is divided into 75% for the European part and 25% for the nonEuropean part.
AJ should not be playing against Mexico.
In Brendan and his coaching team I trust to do the right thing.
Ps on the Hot Smoked debate he does not post under multi monikers and is a Celtic supporting gent.
Now that BRRB on the other hand is a Souside hoodlum.

I do think the football is as good as ange ball right now and the manager and coaching staff should get credit. ESP the new coach who arrived in January. It has really kicked in since then.
I do find it a bit odd that folk claim we should judge our success in domestic terms for the manager but in European terms for the executive or even for some reason our non exec chairman.

For all the board lovers out there, it’s not just on cqn that some think our board are holding us back.
“Many reasons are put forward for Celtic’s stock piling of cash, the most logical one is that a board rammed with accountants and lawyers simply have no ideas on how to expand and develop the club. Anyone suggesting ideas to them is likely to be get the reply of ‘Ah but look at what happened to Rangers’ as a reply”.
Either build a new south stand and refurbish other areas of the stadium or spend on the park, do not just sit with piles of cash paying hmrc huge tax bills.

Hi all, anyone going to Germany? We have booked up, flights, digs but no tickets as yet. Any ideas? HH

drivel.
succesful organisations know how and when to invest.
doing it while winning trophiesn and sweeping up the prize money on top of increased player traing, well i like that we pay social taxes on profits.
it doesnt go to shareholders, so why not ?
£14m on infrastructure projects in this cycle.
i firmly believe the “survey” will be used as justification for more hospitality.
A good Celtic supporting friend of mine lives in Roermond in Holland .
He is within 1hr of Dortmund .
Desperate for a ticket for the BD match he made enquiries with BD .
Season tickets include CL matches .
A season ticket costs 150 euros .
They are sold out and there is an 80,000 waiting list .
Some club .

As you rightly say there will be a good reason for Celtic building its bank balance. It will be a commercial decision taken in the best interests of the club.
I doubt it’s an overriding cast – iron policy, however the experienced and qualified guardians of the club will know what they ‘re doing, after all those people have put Celtic in such a strong position . Brendan and the squad can concentrate on football matters safe in that knowledge.
Imagine if PL had joined Rangers FC twenty-five years ago – the landscape would be different, probably 2012 would not have happened and all our titles, trebles, doubles, invincible season might be just a wish list and our bank balance somewhat lower – what a nightmare !

The Dortmund fans aren’t happy about how much they pay, though – they held up a banner in the yellow wall complaining about theirs being the most expensive season books in the Bundesliga recently:
“Here stands the most expensive season ticket in the Bundesliga.”
the extended FAMILY purchased the cl packages today, some are having to move seats.
at this moment you can only buy “the package” no single game purchases.
the primary aged kid in the family – lower tier, in a corner – Under 13 | £128 (£32 per match)

“Eagle eyed pre season supporters spotted Adam Idah’s dip in fitness”
———————
10th August- Adam plays 30 minutes off the bench with Norwich
14th August- signs for Celtic
18th August- 30 minutes off the bench for Celtic
25th August- 60 minutes as a starter for Celtic
1st September- 13 minutes off the bench after we go 3 up against Sevco
7th September- 75 minutes from the start for ROI
At what point does fitness kick in for this boy- 6 games in 4 weeks- yet we attribute his lack of form to fitness issues?? Does he not just have good and bad games like other players do? I can remember him having some last season as well as a couple of match winning performances for us.
Idah price tag will be used against him.
is not even a matter of time, its started.

Hot Smoked
Sorry to see the false accusations being levelled against you. Good to see folk who actually do support Celtic week in week out supporting you.
……. ….
Just want to make it absolutely clear that I didn’t make any accusations against Hot Smoked, false or otherwise. I merely answered his query. Hot Smoked has been a respected and valued poster on CQN for years.
The flip side of International football is that Tony Ralston got two games against the level of player we are likely to countenance in the CL. Or if AJ does have a strain Tony is just the man to go in against Hearts at the weekend giving Johnston extra recovery time. Thing is AJ has shown in recent games that when fully fit he is the perfect foil for Nicholas Kuhn, just the thing we need in Europe. Time to wave goodbye to Mexico….

SHOCKING Prices for the CL PRIMARY Kids package by Celtic, especially when considering Liverpools £9 per game at Anfield.
What do the Celtic Board lovers on here have to say about the GREED ?
NO ONE…Including the Celtic Board lovers on here can ” JUSTIFY” the CL Prices for PRIMARY SCHOOL KIDS from Celtic.
Then again, there will probably be one or two on here who will TRY and justify it ?
Manchester United new stadium plans move forward
The group is expected to a make a final decision over whether to pursue a £2bn plan for a new 100,000-seat stadium by the end of 2024.
Lord Coe said the “once-in-a-generation project” would see the “development of a world-class stadium for the north of England”.
