Johnston, CCV and ‘Poch’

108

There were so many stand-out performances for Celtic last weekend that they are easy to overlook.  Daizen Maeda, Paulo Bernardo, Kyogo, Nicolas Khun, Liam Scales, both full backs and Callum McGregor returned outstanding performances.  Kasper Schmeichel even had a late cameo, which he completed without fuss.

Just when you were beginning to feel good about next week’s Champions League opener, Alistair Johnston limped off during Canada’s historic win over the USA, their first on US soil since 1957.  Reports from Canada suggest Alistair was hooked as a precaution, after feeling a tight hamstring, with hopes that he will be fit for Wednesday’s friendly against Mexico.

There is no friendly important enough to risk a player with a tight hamstring.  Brendan Rodgers will hopefully express these views to Alistair, before the game.

Cameron Carter-Vickers was absent for the US, a consequence of the strain he picked up against Newco.  Auston Trusty was an unused substitute for a USA lacklustre side.  I would be quite happy if both continued to be overlooked by whoever takes over from interim manager, Mikey Varas.

Mauricio Pochettino is expected to be appointed to the post this week.  He was at Spurs during Cameron Carter-Vickers development years there, although Cameron never made an appearance for the club.  No harm to Cameron’s international aspirations, but hopefully, ‘Poch’ continues to overlook our defensive MVP.

  1. I asked for a bit of patience for Adam even before we officially signed him.

With all the uncertainty for him during the summer added to the weight of expectation when we signed him it seemed a certainty he would struggle early on.

It’s one thing being on loan, it’s another completely when you’re a multi million signing.

Really hoped he could get a goal late on last week to ease the pressure, hopefully he’s fully up to speed soon.

It would be understandable for Adam to put a bit too much pressure on himself , knwing the big price that was paid for him . Brendan will be alert to any danger of this and will guide him through it .

We saw what he was capable of last season ….. he will still be capable of it , just give him time .

Thanks for that but, just to be clear, my `accuser` was Chairman and definitely not your good self.

    David,

    Thanks to you ,too.

To borrow an oft used CQN phrase …

Who would win a three way fight between a Task Force, a Partnership, and a “new advisory team” ?

Statement comes with the usual empty, insincere, touchy-feely bollocks about “broad social and economic benefits to the local area and surrounding region”.

    DAVID66 @ ages ago,

I think , there are thousands of CQN ‘Monika’s’ maybe two thousand dormant, redundant or very rarely used? ‘Board lovers’ maybe half a dozen? prepared to put their periscopes up for rational debate and at least enough to earn the label.

The money is a ‘buffer’ nothings happened to it, maybe that’s the problem 👍

  6. maybe the very s=risk adverse “c”onservative board were affected by the covid season, as in, we are never letting it happen again, that they wouldnt have enough monies held for a full seasons eventuality, did they not actually say something like hat /

*how long did it take Big Bad John Harston to get his first goal for us.

  8. 2 billion for Man U new stadium !!!!!.Wow,for a club that is,£990 million in debt, and has paid over,£900 million in debt charges within the last 9 years, that is some undertaking.

Its also double the money Madrid payed for their incredible state of the art stadium.

    Mind boggling .

celtic plc simply put are cash rich because everything they do makes money, 3m for mikey johnston, i mean we cant help ourselves

*we all know where they, with their fabricated Celtic names especially those that tell us they are no longer going tae games now for personal reasons and then go awol when we succeed once again in putting the fallen angels to the sword, are going with their lame questions, but just like their triumphalism when steptoe was bleeding them dry leaving them pink lint, it will all come out in the washing once our case is cleared up and the lawyers go after them and nae protestations about it was the old club will help them as they have claimed all their honours and name so sevco 3 looks on the cards again, I say 3 as 2 is almost upon them right now.

As my oul Irish granny used tae say “the tide goes in and the tide goes out” and my Scottish one “what goes around comes around”, or the sacred Hindu language Sanskrit, which the Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, and Jain religions use call Karma

  10. Celtic Mac,

Its about,50/50 with me on James Forrest.Great read ,and not so great.Started to go for the click bait headlines,no matter what he says, regards, appealing to the anti Board,PL,audience, which is fine if thats his honest views, but he never used to. Maybe needs the bigger amount of readers and clicks, which is also fine.

Not getting away from the fact,he can nail down an article when on form.

    Still,can be an excellent writer

I’m watching the game with the sound muted.

Right at the start I thought I heard ‘Aabbshoolootelee’ I thought, not the fat gardener again. sound off😂

  12. turkeybhoy

He has done some good work no question, though he got it seriously wrong when he claimed that Ange Postepoglu would struggle to get a UEFA licence despite extensive club and international experience, and being hired by a well known European club with good ECA and UEFA connections.

  13. TONTINE TIM

Just looked it up. Took big John ten games to score his first Celtic goal.

I reckon we are less patient as a support these days, I’m sure Adam will get a goal well before then.

  14. I`ve got to go so I am going to assume it was either click bait or much older than i realised and I can`t find the clip now to check dates !!

    Cheerio for now.

    Re FFP and FSR.

It bloody happened again. Near the end of a response to you comment of the previous blog a slip of the finger brought up a new page and the work had gone.

Whatever one says about CQN, the adverts hamper navigation and make posting a trial, whether by laptop or mobile and render it frustration as a place to post anything of length.

All I’ll say is FSR contains what FFP did not which is specific regs on wage control that if breached get sanctioned from fines to refusal of a UEFA Licence.

Regs that apply EVERY licensing cycle and where the accounts submitted for a licence must align with FSR definitions. The impact is already being felt across the city now that soft loans cannot under any stretch of the imagination be called football earnings as defined.

  16. It continues

Celtic in 2025/26 season will have a base of ( estimated ) :

    Revenue , less cost of sales/materials: £123 m

    + Average 3yr player trading profit £19m

Total 🟰 £142m of which we can spend 80% on wages + player purchase amortisation 🟰£113.6m

    Rangers estimate 🟰£65m

    ===========

(I think it is 70% in 25/26 having started at 90% on 23/24 cycle and 80% 24/25 that began in Feb March 2024.

  17. and goes on.

So to match us Rangers will have to overspend their threshold allowance by 75%

If the Oligarch ( 👀) turned up and made up the shortfall on Celtic the fine would be a minimum of 75% but more likely 100%

So spend £50m and get a Uefa fine of £50m

NO OLIGARCHS ARE ON THE WAY

Matthew Anderson and Ben Summers to Admira Wacker on loan

    ………………………………………

Alex Valle’s loan allows Matthew Anderson a better chance of developing than in the Lowland league. Ben Summers similarly, with the signing of Luke McCowan.
