Johnston curve: time to be honest

478

Newco director and former Rangers chairman Alastair Johnston is getting a hard time for saying “We are probably doing a little better than we would have imagined back in the dark days of running out at Brechin in the fourth tier” and “we are probably ahead of the curve in reality if we finish second or third”.

Newco are not ahead of the curve if they finish second, given their budget and the experience of their playing squad, they are where they should be.  Another third place finish would be behind the curve, but these are semantics.

The big question is, are this club ‘going for 55’ or was that phrase no more than a device to sell season tickets?

Second for Newco is right on the curve.  If they don’t reach there this season, they will soon, and they will finish second more often than any of their direct competitors.  Johnston’s job is to convince 40,000 people to buy tickets for a competition they know Celtic will win.

I understand why Newco do not run with the phrase “going for second place next time” on season ticket renewal campaigns, but they were only delaying the inevitable.  Many other clubs can be frank with supporters on what their ambitions for the season are, but can you really imagine this level of honesty at Ibrox?

Me neither.  They will spin some old tat to an ever dwindling demographic.  Still, at least the club is in the hands of Dave King and not Mike Ashley, one of Europe’s richest men.  That whole effort worked out well.

  1. Same team as last week tomorrow. Expect us to be at it from the off. Lenny isn’t daft and will target ML and DB. Hopefully we can stand firm. I think Hibs will need to score at least 2 to get a draw. they have done well this season but lets not forget in the grand scheme of things they are Tom Kite. Intae them.

Second, am I to believe nobody on here knows Desertbhoy? C’mon, he was with us at the Legia game at Murrayfield, he came for a bevy with us before and after the game. Does nobody on here care about this guy. Where the kcuf is the Celticness? Where is the love? Where the kcuf is the love?

One of you know Robert Blackwood, he lived in Comrie and worked in the middle east.

He’s one of us and we should find out where he is or what the hell has become of him.

  8. Sat today with a huge Celtic fan and we were jousting to tell stories.

Tomorrow I could meet the same guy and we’d do the same, only with different stories. And the next day, and the next.

What a wonderful position to be in, who’d have thought it 15/20?years ago?

Had a chat today wi the Drumchapel Young Tim Team. The subject became next Sunday’s game. They expect the huns to riot and possible pitch invasion. When I asked them what they would do, they said they would invade and chase them oot Paradise. Starting to get fears for this match.

Stivs, thanks for replying. I’m not a facebooker so wouldn’t know how to check that avenue. I’m going to take a drive to Comrie and ask around. Its gone beyond caring if he’s in the whisky syndicate and anything t do with that. I’m more concerned now if he’s still with us in the able to dram sense.

One way or another I need to know. He is a Celtic man, a CQN’r, a drammer, a good guy that I’ve met only twice, but he’s gone completely off the grid. He’s got family and they may not be aware he, like us was a part of a group covered by massive Celtic blanket that wraps us all up in a common bond.

    I just want t know he’s ok.

  23. ACGR, I have returned to being a one man Supporters Club but I am breaking my vow of Omerta, to see if I can help.

I looked up Facebook on your behalf & there is a chap by the name of Robert Blackwood from MaryHill Glasgow, he has in the past posted a bit of Celtic stuff so I think we can assume he is a Celtic fan.

Just open Facebook and put Robert Blackwood in Search & this lad will come up fairly easily.

There is a pic there so you can see if this is your bhoy.

Get your Cork bahookie back on here, gutted I didn’t read your thoughts of last Sunday’s game…. scroll by whatever but I for one would appreciate your Celtic input on our games coming up and especially on the 19th May when a wee double treble “might” happen

    Hail Hail

  29. Sorry ACGR, I wouldn’t have a clue on how to do that. I don’t want to annoy you by repeating myself but honestly just open FaceBook & put Robert Blackwood in under search About 7 or 8 names will come up most of them are from Glasgow or thereabouts. Having a peep at their stuff they all seem to be Celts & they all have pics up. The first guy I mentioned looks to be in the sixties bracket.

If you are still reluctant maybe your size 22 will do it for you, if you have any other info like school, job/self employed etc let me know & I’ll look again & the info might pinpoint the lad.

However if you want me to look tonight come back fairly pronto as my size 22 has just gone off to bed & if I don’t get off the lap top soon I’ll be in trouble.
