ALISTAIR JOHNSTON suffered his second penalty-kick knock-out in two months as Canada were sent toppling from the Gold Cup in Minneapolis.
The Celtic right-back saw his nation draw 1-1 with Guatemala before the tie had to be settled in the spot-kick decider.
Johnston didn’t take a kick on this occasion, but two of his team-mates – Cyle Larin and Luc De Fougerolles – both squandered efforts before José Morales fired the underdogs to a 6-5 success to go through the semi-finals of the competition for the first time since 1996.
The Hoops defender, along with skipper Callum McGregor, saw his spot-kick saved by Dimitar Mitov as Aberdeen lifted the Scottish Cup at Hampden 4-3 in the shoot-out decider following a 1-1 stalemate on May 24.
It was a similar story last night with the Canadians taking the lead through a penalty-kick from Jonathan David on the half-hour mark.
They were reduced to 10 men when Jacob Shaffelburg was shown a red card four minutes into first-half stoppage time for a foul on Steven Robles.
Rubio Rubín hit the leveller in the 69th minute to set up the spot-kick decider. Guatemala will now face the USA in the last four.
