MIKEY JOHNSTON is poised to seal a £2.5million move to Sheffield United.
Celtic’s 25-year-old winger had been targeted by Burnley, but it looks as though their Championship rivals are going to win the race before Friday night’s deadlne.
Johnston scored seven goals in 20 appearances for West Brom in England’s second tier last term after joing the Midlands club on loan in January.
The Glasgow-born Republic of Ireland forward will end his seven-year Hoops association with his switch to Bramall Lane.
NOW YOU SEE ME…Mikey Johnston during his brief appearance against Hibs at Easter Road.
Johnston, once tipped for the top, has become a bit-part player at the champions and has played for only 16 minutes of the current season after coming on as a substitute in the 2-0 league win over Hibs at Easter Road.
The wide Bhoy, who was given his first-team debut by first time-around Brendan Rodgers in May 2017, still has two years to run on his contract. He spent the entire 2022/23 campaign at Portuguese top-flight side Vitoria Guimaraes.
Reflecting on the player’s situation, the Hoops gaffer admitted: “I think Mikey is at the stage where he’ll probably want to play more.”
Sheffield United are prepared to offer that opportunity, according to local media.
Johnston could make his debut for the Yorkshire club in Sunday’s Championship meeting with Watford who could have his former Hoops team-mate Rocco Vata in their line-up.
