Jota delivers delights

142

In a game full of delights, it was the fourth goal which stole the show.  Jota had tracked back and had to control a loose ball facing his own corner flag.  His first touch brought control and options, transforming a defensive position into a promising counterattack.

That kind of control makes the game look easy, Greg Taylor and Reo Hatate were able to pass out of the corner and progress the ball to Arne Engels.  Arne’s pass around two Dundee players looked anything but easy; it was similar to the pass he made to Daizen Maeda at Fir Park on Sunday, for the third goal.  If anything we see between now and May eclipses this as Goal of the Season, I will be surprised (although an own goal winner against Munich would meet the grade).

The same player collected the ball but this time he chipped the Dundee keeper from the edge of the box.  If this is what we are in for, for the remainder of the season, it could be another memorable May.  13 points clear with 13 games to go, the run-in is underway.

6 is the magic number for Dundee.  A 6-0 defeat last night, 0-6 defeat on Saturday, 6 points from bottom of the table St Johnstone, who have picked up 6 points in their last two games.  Safety from relegation is no longer looking assured.

Got to agree wholeheartedly with the above.

Have to disagree wholeheartedly with the below.

“I thought that his pass on Sunday was meant for Yang ,but was overhit .

    Maeda chasing ,made the pass.

    TT

IF that pass was meant for Yang he would have placed it on the right of Yang!?

If it was meant for Yang…

    …it was directed wrong

    …it was weighted wrong

…and it had the wrong swerve on it

As Engels is not your average flukey Sunday pub league footballer I’m going to suggest he meant it.

Especially as he produced a very similar pass last night –

The 100m TV income probably helps

sure does, if only celtic plc had access to such monies and used it to make for cheaper access for all our fanbase.

    oh, wait a minute.

meanwhile liverpool kids get into champions league games for £9.

£100m in the bank earning £3m interest per annum maybies, we aint using it for anything else just now.

he covered some amount of ground to recover that ball,

19 seconds later the ball is in the net.

  4. Welcome back Tom Mc Laughlin, hope you are well .Regards,GT,anyone even contemplating the thought of him going in a huff, have not been watching the boy for 4 years.Only one gear for Greg, full out every game.As Glenowen mentioned earlier, the myth that he cant compete in the air,is just that.Actually mentioned on Shortie last night.Hope he stays.

I know some have commented, but the change in Engels is staggering for me.He is the continuity player, like Thomas Muller, does an amazing amount of great work.Under BR,he is flourishing.Has it all this kid.Future superstar.

Jota,Idah,Maeda,Khun. What a forward line.A lot more pumpings to come.

  5. Rooting for Ange tonight. So happy that Left Back hoarding ex Hun got gubbed last night. With 4 LBs on his books,he refused to let KT go,for what reason?Think we know.

I commented the same last night to my son.

The game started at 7:45…. not 8:00 as it is now for CL games.

That’s 15 minutes extra that the fans could have stayed, and still be leaving for home at the same time as a CL game.

The spectre of the team doing a lap of honour, to an empty stadium at most home games is embarrassing.

Fans in the North Stand regularly leave their seats and congregate in the exit tunnels to watch the last 5-10 mins.

When we scored the late winner against Young Boys, the fans who had already left their seats came rushing back to celebrate…. an accident waiting to happen.

More bizarre however is fans leaving when a game is still in the balance.

The atmosphere leaves the stadium like air from a balloon. The opposition must sense this too, and are encouraged to give one last push for an equaliser.

    Weird.

Over and over we will follow you.

Over and over we will see you tbrough

    We are Celtic supporters

    Faithful through and through

Over and over , we will follow you.

    If you play for 90

    We might still be there

    If we’re 4 or 5 up

    We could be anywhere

We’ll be down in Janefield Street

    When you walk around

But the Green Brigade, will still be there

    They won’t let you down.

They don’t have the TV riches of bloated EPL clubs (Burnley raking in double that of Leverkusen, after relegation), nor do they blatantly fleece working class supporters on ticket prices.

A few weeks ago Bundesliga 2 had attendances of 42k at Kaiserslautern, 50k Koln, 62k Schalke and 74k Hertha Berlin.

They still teach the English a lesson off the field too.

    Great post

Not only the english, football in general where some choose to follow the epl model and not the more organic german one.

Your post brings back a memory from a few years ago,Arsenal vsB.Dortmund at emirates,a Dortmund fan posted his match ticket,1 game £120 with his season card, all hime games in Bundesliga at €140,football without fans eh

    Ta for post

    Hail Hail

  10. Despite the huge TV deal from Sky and others it’s Premier League teams who milk their support, however they the fans dont seem to mind and pay the prices, it would only take the threat of not buying season tickets to get their boards to look at this issue. Newcastle apparently are the richest club in the World or have the richest owners, however, due to PSR they could not spend in that transfer window, how do your Man City’s Chelsea Real Madrid Barcelona etc get around these restrictions, surely having debt in the billions in the case of the Spanish Clubs require their Federation or UEFA to have a close look at their finances.

  11. JOTA, GREG, REO, CALLUM, ALISTAIR, ARNE and finally DAIZEN were ALL involved in the FAB Build Up ( and Finish) to Celtics 4th Goal last night.

Now thats what I call ” A REAL TEAM GOAL” !

    Pure magic so’s it is.

  12. Celtic were a treat to watch last night , all clicking together nicely for the prize givings. Now I know Raith is the next game and will get full attention, but I wonder what Bayern Munich think about coming to play here next Wednesday, should be a cracker, I was at the 0.0 when Kahn etc were delighted with getting a draw.

  13. I’ve said for ages that we could replicate the Bundesliga model of all standing terrace in the lower Jock Stein. I know its been debated at length but when you read the Bayern chairman state that their Kop is the power behind the team, and how its also affordable. This is the case at every Bundesliga 1&2 club.

    I’d love it to happen.

The Germans got it right when they were awarded the 2006 World Cup. Stadiums followed a blueprint which make many an EPL ground look stale.

  14. The EPL teams are a hostage to Sky having to spend ever increasing sums of money to stay in the league. Very few teams actually make money. The parachute payments are an abomination, they encourage overspending and give the recipient a big advantage in the championship.

  15. The returnof weeron on

    Great game last night.

And a great blog here today. Nice to see everyone being happy.

And yes, that 4th goal will be the goal of the season.

Except for bbc, who will give to a sclaffed penalty by tav…

    Have a good day everybody.

    Weeron.

  16. But it will stop those clubs who go down from going bust , that would shatter confidence in football governance in England so they wont stop these payments.

  17. Dessybhoy

Maybe without it, it would discourage the profligate spending. It also disadvantages the rest of the championship

So, just to be clear, Paul – the way for Celtic to improve is to sell players like Jota and replace them with players like Yang? Hmmmmmm – not sure you’ll have too many takers on that one!

Looking just like the Jota of old with that inswinging cross from the half-space to the back post and the far-side winger coming inside to finish. Always baffled when people shout for two up front when you get far more from three.

As for the fourth – and especially the Engels pass – what can you say other than wow!

Reckon Schlupp can provide some physicality, energy and versatility.

  19. yeah paul67, that pass thing arne does is f amazeballs- 25-30 yards, into space but not much, mostly aimed in front of the oppo box, aimed at a player who’s on the move , looks like it’s more in hope than expectation but will, at the very least, give us the secondary ball, will give tavpen a double daizenjota headache

Celtic playing “The Glasgow Celtic Way” last night was a joy to behold, 13 games remain to play, Dundee Utd, Aberdeen, Huns, Hearts and Killie all at home, St Mirren St Johnstone and Hibs away before the split.

Remain undefeated and we can seal title against Hearts at home 29th March (my birthday)

Not looking too far in front thought as Brendan says “one game at a time”

    ………

Thatcher removed the battery’s from the huge energised generation of football fans on football terraces and that energy gave fans wings and gave them hope in their hearts from one week to the next…which when the fans became all seated Thatcher proudly declared…

[ “THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS SOCIETY!” ]

Until fans get politicians elected, Corbyn and Galloway, who’ll pass the laws to remove the MAJORITY of unnecessary seating 40,000+ out of Parkhead would be a good starting point.

Then maybe folk would want to invest in a new working class inspired cheaper filled to the brim terraces vs thousands of rows of empty seats at £60 per head [ its not the fkn opera ffs! ] without these 2 working class driven politicians installed nothing will change and the MAJORITY of attending football fans will become lazy spoiled bastids.

Problem is winning the psychological battle for fans hearts and minds and only Corbyn and Galloway have said they’ll rip up the economy and write out a new economy focused on the 99% as opposed to the 1% which has been the way of it since 1979, tinkering around the edges of the economy will keep the rich bastids in control.

Is Trump leading the way? Is that why the Demoncrats tried to jail him and when that failed they tried to kill him?

Maybe if Tims stopped being brainwashed by mainstream media and their handpicked politicians, then Timmy might see more clearly, or has the krankie vaxxeen already made it too late for that?

So remove billionaires ownership from clubs and remove all seating Thatcherite era demands on fans if fans want them removed.

But with lazy, unthinking, pro woke degeneracy voting majority of Celtic fans, where the integrity is to be found among Celtic fans is the gotcha question when Green Brigade real fans, are outnumbered by 58,000 tut tutting, lazy turnstile fodder, balance sheet sucking, majority succulent Timmy sheeple.

It is going to be difficult to waken sleeping fans when anti Apartheid Corbyn and Galloway are 100% banned from the mainstream media, especially Galloway who’s truths will set fake news media studios on fire and expose all of their lies by turning the tables and grilling fake journos as to why they are controlled by the zio lobby groups, nice words Corbyn wouldn’t go down that route which is why he is on some media. Eye.

Horrible, Evil, pro all genocides are the media, which undoubtedly brainwashes and dupes the 58,000 majority into thinking that pro Starmer genocide, Mick Lynch, is driven by the integrity of James Connolly, is this a guy to be trusted? Just lol. Or bow your head in despair.

Then factor in the SNP mis-education system generation of Celtic fans, deliberately dumbed down to the point that they fall into line only knowing an era of Celtic fans who are incapable of asking real meat on the bones questions, enthused to the pish patter narrative from Celtic blogs who couldn’t ask a question to save themselves.

And anybody who dizny conform to such succullence is immediately smeared as a troll.

I’d rather be a troll than a stooge.

Stand alone in truth, or drown in lies along with those krankie klans who live to smear the the truth and those who speak it.

Reality dogs on the streets are saying that there is going to be a massive die off from the effects of the zio orchestrated plandemic vaxxeen genocide 6.5 BILLION took those vaxeens that even the supposedly stupid and daft Huns saw through but virtue signalling Tims demanded the banning of real Tims who tried to help pro cancel culture Tims, driven by horrible mass murderer krankie.

    Oh dear.

Are the PLC hoarding piles of money in case thousands of Celtic fans have believed the lying Krankie and Boris and Starmer, that vaxxeens were safe and effective?

    Oh dear.

What a truly fked up world we live in.

A blind world led by a One eyed king. Eye.

  26. Gene

Yes it does, but to withdraw it suddenly would jepordise clubs who have players on PL wages, I know it should be written into contracts that if we go down we cut your wages to X per week but I doubt that happens and players wouldn’t sign. I agree with you though it is unfair.

    Really good.

Germans take long view and do it right shocker.

Equally fair I think for others to point out the relative lack of need for matchday income enjoyed by the super clubs (£500m plus turnover).

For our part at Celtic, I think the club are missing an opportunity for a model that gives fans a clear understanding (before the season starts) of what prices they’ll pay for tickets

    AND

    Reduces prices slightly for concessions.

    Just a punt but …

Main concessions will ALWAYS be discounted by one third from standard price.
