Jozo and stupid mistakes

687

Success in football often comes down to who doesn’t make mistakes at the back.  For all France’s pace on the break, it was their sheer solidity at the back which saw them through the World Cup.  England reached the semi-final, with little more than a mid-table select, but they made remarkably few mistakes, and just as importantly, understood the importance of set-pieces – don’t give them away and exploit them when you get them.

Viewed through the prism of an educational World Cup, Jozo Simunovic’s chest-high Alashkert was worthy of a red card on the basis of sheer stupidity.  It was an intolerable mistake, a relic of a former era.

That Uefa doubled his suspension to two game is no surprise.  Perhaps they have a stupidity threshold.

I think we might broach our own stupidity threshold if we appeal Jozo’s suspension.

While he’s hardly my favourite Celtic centre-half of all time,I’d certainly rate him higher than a man short.

And I’d rather he was missing against Rosenborg at 3-1 up than the first leg v AEK.

BUT it’s time he got his finger out and started performing to the level he clearly thinks he is at.

  3. BMCUW agree with your post about Jozo.

So this will be a 3 game ban for a red???

Never heard of that before, but don’t appeal, just accept and move on.

  4. Oh I think I have read situation wrong.

Jozo is getting an extra game ban to make it 2 …

    Sorry guys.

From the last thread: many thanks for the kind words…but I’m not from Ayrshire!

    …’tho I am a Tim!

I was born in Greenock, and was dragged, not kicking and screaming btw, to Troon by my parents, and auntie, in 1962.

    Hope yer well!

  6. Goooooood Morning CQN – ???????

Just a personal opinion, on his game ( not frequent enough I can accept) Jozo (24 next week) is a far better CH the Dedryck (28 later this year) , with the correct coaching from Kolo, Jozo will do fine.

Now I’m heavily conflicted – what do I do ?

I have not attended 1 game at Celtic park ( or anywhere else for that matter) against that new club which was parachuted straight into Scottish football from nowhere back in 2012.

Reasoning, Celtic was giving a new club preferential treatment.

Now having cut the ticket allocation to 800, should I now attend ???

Or continue to miss this, as still being treated differently to other teams we play from the SPFL

    Oh and FtSFA

Dickson, Bryson, Petrie all still there ?

Park still a major shareholder in 2 SPFL clubs ?

    Need I go on

    Hail Hail

A day out in the Market Inn sounds like a plan need to get something sorted , meeting up wae TONYROME and his good lady A in Prestwick later for a few beers and some grub any other CQN’RS in that neck of the woods today ?

  8. Ooohh,a bit harsh Paul.It was a spur of the moment thing. Not deliberate.Anyone watching a replay of the incident would see that. Not so it seems, a Dallas led panel. The only other explanation,is UEFA drafted in the panel who looked at the varied, and various deliberate assault offences commited by Ryan Jack last year, and told them”OK,after the arse you made of those decisions, lets see what you make of this”.Hence the 2 game ban.

There are some Terry Duckwits about writing today. One of the click bait idiots telling us that Celtic must sign Arzani,as we are desperately short of wide attacking players !!!!!!!!!!!

The Bun telling us that Lafatmee left The Hun after their financial difficulties.Followed by he should slap in a transfer request and make Hearts accept the Hun pennies.

    Financial difficulties????.What,like Lehmans bank?

From previous article, cheers much appreciated, hope to get to the Market Inn next Saturday, you have gave me a week to try and plan how to shake off wee Colombu (MissGFTB) for a couple of hours :-)

On the article, would Jozo play in Rosenburg, I might be wrong (which isn’t unusual at all) but do the Norwegians not play on artificial surface ?

  10. Disagree….still think it was a harsh red card. Stupid and clumsy but no malice involved, no more than a booking by my reckoning . But the more important point for me is , that seems to be the level of our first pick Centre backs…….simply not good enough for a club that financially is as well off as it has ever been. The PR side of our club like to boast a little about it too..you know…new pitch ( which is a step forward and I applaud ) All the maintenance work and super duper flashing lights ………errr smashing but since when did things like this get so much coverage by our club ……..glossing over the fact that at the centre of our defence is STILL our achiles heel . If as has been suggested by another well read Celtic Blog that Brendan is unhappy at not getting the players he would really like because of board interference/ inaction then we have a problem. Brendan will be no mug here if that is the case . We are in a great position just now but as other Celtic teams of the past we never build from strength . We as Celtic fans are pretty clued up to the financial side of things, we aint asking to spend £15M or whatever on a player but there is surely better quality out there than we have at present where our central defence is concerned. I rate Big Ajer and Hendry but they are still learning and still too raw to take on the responsibility of Euro football . And another thing we all love bargains but Celtic , you cant get bargain buys all the time sometimes you gotta spend the going rate. We are a good team, we could be a really good team if we got central defence sorted and stop this obsession with midfielders

A quick shuftie round the internet says they have a grass master pitch which appears to be what we have now at Paradise too!

    HH

  12. I would think like their captain says Rosenborg will be direct and go for it early, this though will leave chances to counter quickly when they lose the ball and I feel we have the passing accuracy to exploit this and have pace in Eddie and James F, I think we will score over there possibly more than 1, which should see us through.

    Red ash … shudder !

The red “blaize” at Strathy Park was sold to us as an all-weather surface back in the day, nearly as bad as the black ash parks in the toon

    Still got the scars CSC

If Celtic play Brendan’s ball retention game, the tie is done* . They simply won’t have enough of the ball to go long whilst getting the support players up the pitch. They did reasonably well first 20 last 10, when we respectively were getting into our stride and dropped deeper.

If Celtic play to the standard and speed we reached 45-75 minutes a victory is there.

*ruling out wild stuff like Jozo or Dan-the-man red

    How are you doing pal?

Reading Celtic’s statement, negs was right. It showed Celtic, not taking the lead, but only reacting to what the zombies did. It came across to me as a begging letter to the zombies to reinstate our prior allocation. And, as soon as the zombies need the cash (which will be soon.. maybe by the next game), they will be back to allowing 7500 Tim’s in, which means that for their Celtic visit, we will soon be back to having 7500 of them polluting our stadium with their songs of hate.

If you don’t make the game and I make the market inn would be delighted to buy you a pint and put another face to a moniker :-)

  18. Stupid mistakes

Is not strengthening the squad yet a stupid mistake? Only time will tell. Still trying to work out what Brendan meant when he intimated he doesn’t have much to do with transfers!

Where is the conflict ? You stopped going because of ” rangers ” same club , not the amount of their fans ….so ther yar sorted it furye pal …..hope your all good ;))

  20. I would give Sevco 0 tickets for our home games and would also encourage Celtic to refuse to take any tickets for games at the crumbledome. We’ll still pump them regardless. Should make interesting TV coverage. The 60th minute and an eerie silence falls over Ibroke as the zombie hordes depart en masse after watching their team concede a 4th goal.

It was the wording used in the letter.

“This mirrors the decision announced recently by Rangers”.

“This is not a development we welcome …”

Plus, there is of course the repeated reference in Celtic’s statement to Rangers …

  22. Oglach here here, give them feck all.

Let Huns reinstate our 7,500 tickets, then take away the 800, that we are allowing into our paradise..

Do not let any orcs in, thier bile is sickening.

We had already put 5 past them by 60 minutes into our last “game” against them.

The prospect of the entire stadium emptying as a result is tantalising, but tempered by the thoughts of the party 8000 Broomloan Tims would miss!

Btw,five of us watching the game in Swindon had backed 5-0 at 33-1,40-1,45-1,50-1 and 40-1 again.

Bet was up wi forty minutes to go-we’d all have sacrificed our healthy winnings for another three or four goals!

I honestly don’t think the Celtic should be distracted by them at all. Not when we are progressing so much ?

They’re like a wee guy trying to catch attention.

Anything will do. statement o’clock; stupid fan led actions, oh yo know them all – we’ve been royally entertained for donkeys.

Just curious why you think, the Celtic should get down into the mud-pit ? Almost “old-firmy”.
