Jozo and stupid mistakes

687

Success in football often comes down to who doesn’t make mistakes at the back.  For all France’s pace on the break, it was their sheer solidity at the back which saw them through the World Cup.  England reached the semi-final, with little more than a mid-table select, but they made remarkably few mistakes, and just as importantly, understood the importance of set-pieces – don’t give them away and exploit them when you get them.

Viewed through the prism of an educational World Cup, Jozo Simunovic’s chest-high Alashkert was worthy of a red card on the basis of sheer stupidity.  It was an intolerable mistake, a relic of a former era.

That Uefa doubled his suspension to two game is no surprise.  Perhaps they have a stupidity threshold.

  2. Gerry,

Anyone who is not making mistakes is inhuman.

The 800 allocation means we can park where we normally park, against the EXTREMELY new Rangers.

I asked Aidan if he is OK parking there, He said Oui.

The Aberdeen fans got a bit lippy a few years ago – Probably shouldn’t have walked right through but all had been cool walking and talking away from the Ground.

Auldheid perhaps we are wrong about the Celtic support and they don’t care about their cheating. But that isn’t an excuse for racism and putting io with racism.

    ======================

I dont think that they do not care but that they do not care enough to stop doing what they enjoy most and have done for years. I can understand that.

It also depends on the degree of cheating they think has taken place, not just in the original side letter ebt scandal, but the subsequent cover up shams by the SFA/SPFL to minimise the damage caused by the scandal and the unwillingness of the smsm to go there has limited attempts at exposure to a wider audience to social media.

Even then if Celtic had to turn out with 9 men v 11 every week many would still attend and wait for the occasions we got a result.

With regard to sectarianism I’ve not attended a game v Rangers since early 60s as I don’t like what it brings out in me. I find it a hate filled occasion and that is not my scene.

The big problem is finding a business model to replace the sectarian one so until that happens it comes down to individual choice of who want to be.

  5. OE has the most excellent composure in front of Goal.

Wee Callum had the most instinctive and composed finishing when he was breaking through.

I really hope he gets back to that. The Cup Final Double Treble… says OH YEAH.

A united Ireland, or no brexit. Hmmmm.

I worry about the possible flashpoint’s associated with this.

Will some form of the troubles be sparked by it, or, as has been mentioned on here, and elsewhere, could there be an exodus of loyalist folk going to Scotland to link up with the thousands already there, if there is, watch for loyalist flags being tied to lamp posts in the streets of Scotland. Are Celtic’s board in the know about any future geographical arrangements, and could that be a reason why they are not pursuing the toxic trophy stripping? What will the board do in the, if we get to it, ten in a row season, will they go for it and hammer home a record that huns dare not dream about, or will they throw a spanner in the machine and, get rid of Brendan so that ten in a row falls at the last hurdle? Maybe they’ve started early? Too many questions for this time of day.

Have to charge my battery now, Hail Hail.

  11. Seen a dozen or so zombie flute bands today, in the more diverse part of Beal Feirste, south.

Walking around in circles they were, in torrential rain.

One cannot fault their discipline nor their determination.

Have to admit that I’ve liked the sound of the music being played, not the sentiment behind it though.

Anyway, set off to Drumbo Park.

    The dogs.

Not been to the greyhound racing in years.

If it was bad, then I’d say that it was bad. Brilliant it was though.

Not one hint of sectarianism, or trouble, or anything.

Speaking about sounds – see them dogs whizzing past on the sand ,chasing the

electronic hare – it’s difficult to describe, but it’s different.

I reckon that Shelbourne Park meeting would be an incredible buzz.

  13. Good morning from a very wet North Staffs – first rain for at least 6 weeks – gardens and farms need it.

See the bbc is going all high and mighty over social media and fake news – how about getting their own house in order by blowing the continuity myth.

Anyway – off to Mass (other church services are available) – Georgia and her family will be in my prayers.

  14. Good Morning All – Hope PRESTONPANS BHOYS and those away are enjoying their holidays…

    GENE @ 8:14 AM,

Yes, the rain is very welcome, not too much in Bucks yet – apparently bucketing down today… the day I promised to help my wee sis with her garden (family party coming up:):(

Can’t find the London Times article AULDHEID @ 12:22 AM referred to.

Maybe they decided to pull it due to It’s blatant nonsense factor…

Sevco Rangers used the ticket allocation nonsense to wind up the troops…

I also believe it was to gee up season ticket sales.

Remember the season tickets at Ibrox were way over subscribed early doors, then went on sale again… MMMmmmmm – this gimmick was geared to drive up critical sale of STs.

Celtic must be aware the STs for the Broomloan stand did not cover the Sevco v Celtic games, they were always going to back down.

We have called their bluff. I’ve said before DCK is obviously not a chess player, to make such an announcement when Celtic have the first Glasgow Derby put the ball in Celtic’s court… IMO we made the correct move.

Any thoughts on the 6700 Celtic fans that might not get to see Celtic against the old/new huns…. I would have preferred the bored/board to highlight the damage that mobs following do when visiting Celtic Park in this day n age of social media highlight their actions …. same to those pesky Celtic fans who filled the Ibrox bogs with scented candles :-)

Apparently over the past two weeks, no rain has fell on Prestonpans. My daughter informs me that my pond has dried up and all the fish are fried?. Putting in a few buckets of water was beyond her?

  18. Jozo was out mingling with fans and doing selfies before the Rosenborg game.

He seemed in good spirits and was getting mobbed by supporters.

He was very lean and quite tall.

Losing him for one and a half games is enough punishment for a non-malicitous mis-timed tackle.

  19. I see that our game v Rosenborg is on Premier Sports 2 on Wednesday. I’m a Virgin customer but there is no Premier Sports 2 among the programme listings (channel 551). Will a new channel appear on Wednesday or does any Virgin customer already have PS2? If so what number is it?

  20. Gerryfaethebrig on

    TOSB

By all accounts Prem sports have relegated a champions league qualifier because EPL friendlies are taking centre stage …. not sure about Virgin but for me it’s false advertising if pay per view then gets shunted

  21. I thought Jozo’s red was a bit harsh. He went in without malice, was just too slow to the ball. A yellow and a stern talking too from the ref (it was early in the game) would have been appropriate. Generally, and after some early calamities, he has been a reliable defender for us. It’s encouraging that we also have Boyata coming back, who also proved his critics wrong with a solid World Cup performance.

  22. FFin’ fanone frenzy:

“Well well our good old pal Stephen Dornan aka ([Sevco] hater) getting heavily involved to make sure we don’t get what we want ! He needs to be taken to task ! Our enemies in these times have no shame in showing their true colours! We need to make a stand against these figures! Over in the east end they have totally changed the landscape which for the most part was corrupt , illegal and financed by the Scottish tax payer!”

    ————

“I’ve spoke to a few people from good stock at GCC, not many of them there mind and got this response.

‘The objection came from Ibrox and Cessnock Community Council, a separate body, made up of people from the local area, as it appears that Glasgow Life were going to allow the fanzone, until the community council objected’

Im unsure what the ‘demographic’ is of the I&C Community Counci! But I’m guessing rhabid bead rattlers?!”

    ————

“Maybe some local bears could attend the next meeting?

Maybe The Louden could put on some pre-meeting entertainment and post-meeting pies?”

    ————

“Ive been saying for years now that we should employ a professional researcher to gather evidence of the double standards, bias and lies being thrown at us day in and day out. Produce a report and name and shame the bigots.”

    ————

“The stench of popery at at play is overwhelming.”

    ————

“Wouldn’t it be great if we could move [Snake Mountain] to a town or city where the council appreciate the revenue our support bring to local businesses.

GCC his a snakepit of scum bags”

    ————

    “Time to mobilise…this stinks!!”

    ————

“This is exactly the type of issue where the full weight of the [Sevco] support should be brought to bare.”

    [Heaven forbid!]

    ————

“I’ve said it for years: they’re a well organised political force, we’re a football support.”

    ————

“They genuinely believe that they are some kind of social mission.

Our support of a football team feels almost naive in comparison.”

    ————

“George Soros is responsible for the media agenda in Europe and the world over, he is also heavily involved in secret donations to certain political groups and has an influence on decisions at the very top level.

He promotes extreme left wing views and demonises anyone who opposes them.

In Scotland our football and politics crossover which is why the [Sevco] support feel this campaign more than most.”

    ————

“Any particular reason you beadrattling b******s or is it because you’re beadrattling b******s?”

    ————

    “Its bigotry. Pure and simple.”
