Jozo and stupid mistakes

687

Success in football often comes down to who doesn’t make mistakes at the back.  For all France’s pace on the break, it was their sheer solidity at the back which saw them through the World Cup.  England reached the semi-final, with little more than a mid-table select, but they made remarkably few mistakes, and just as importantly, understood the importance of set-pieces – don’t give them away and exploit them when you get them.

Viewed through the prism of an educational World Cup, Jozo Simunovic’s chest-high Alashkert was worthy of a red card on the basis of sheer stupidity.  It was an intolerable mistake, a relic of a former era.

That Uefa doubled his suspension to two game is no surprise.  Perhaps they have a stupidity threshold.

  1. In Oct 2011 an article appeared in th DR. Basically it said the worse that could happen if oldco became newco after liquidation was a 25 point penalty and the newco would take over from oldco seamlessly.

I think this post from James Forrest shows how much we (yes we) managed to achieve. Remember this was written before admin then liquidation

“I read Keevins article in the same way you did, presenting it as fait accompli and trying to maintain Rangers are quaking at the possibility of a 25 point deduction which would still leave them comfortably in second spot in the league, debt free.

If that was on the table tomorrow Rangers would snatch it up in two seconds flat. We all KNOW IT.

This is the kind of article I was expecting, and when news broke last night of what the headline would be I did not have to read the story to know what the spin was. What is being presented as a “worst case scenario” is simply a fraud of gigantic proportions. There are outcomes aside from a pre-pack which range from inconsequential to armaggedon … that this one is being presented as being “within the rules” is a piece of disinformation so blatant it takes my breath away.

Keevins is either lying through his teeth or he is being fed lies and regurgitating them

Either way, this is the beginning. Anyone now in any doubt as to this being the plan? We’re seeing, right in front of us, the unfolding of the strategy. We’re being softened up for the full-scale campaign to let Rangers dance off scot-free.

This is the time when we have to start fighting. Not after the fact … but NOW. It must NOT be allowed.”

On the subject of “Tops”.I was looking yesterday at Mehmets fake Hun tops. There is going to be some uproar when the Hun entrepreneur takes back a case load of these and starts to distribute them. The XXL version would fit malnourished 12 year old,go down to an 8 year old for the medium.Turkish sizes eh,wit they like?

    Morning Tims…

Took me awe morning to catch up , pesky customers kept wanting taxis,,,, anyway I see you were discussing your favourite ever Celtic player/ players, GFTB put a right good argument up for Paul Mcstay well done mate, however and this doesn’t happen often:-) I have to agree with TROONCELT, Tommy Burns epitomized everything about our club from pulling on the jersey to his tireless charity work and ofcourse he could actually play the game. Tommy for me….( not that PM didn’t)

Sometimes reading back on here I shake my head and wonder about some of our fans, then Monaghan posts stuff from the darkside and I realise that our posters ain’t that bad after all..

O I nearly forgot 800 tickets for the Zombies at Celtic park,

That will be 500 for off duty cops and 300 for regular run of the mill zombies…

And as for 800 Celtic fans at the Victorian lavvy, not for me I’ve been to our last 4 visits at that place and whilst its been a joy, this time we will have zombies either side of us lobbing stuff the whole game while their own part time unpaid stewards stand and watch, the minute one of our fans react its going to be all over the rags with Celtic Fans getting the blame..

If you dont believe me look on the forums of other Scottish teams that get plugged into the corner of the VL..

I went to Ekeren on Coles bus, but by then they had moved along the street, I remember the actual pub (as a toddler) well, Peter Grants wife’s family owned it before it was knocked and the supporters bus moved to the Royal and the Clock bar… my father used to speak of numerous buses leaving from the original pub but in all honesty it was a bit of a hole :-)

WRT favourite Celtic players – Im fairly vanilla about this, wee Jinky for me; tora, tora, tora. But, in fairness, there are many valid options – would love to have seen Patsy, jimmy Quinn, and McGrory play, and the loss of Connelly to the game leaves a massive what if. McBride also a favourite.

  24. GFTB,

Dont know how true it is,but Coatbridge legend has it that there could be,at one time 20 buses leaving Coles..

The Hamilton family were not the last owners of Phil Cole’s, the Fleetings were but it was none other than Tommy Burns that held the licence.

Phil Cole’s never left from the Royal or the Clock Bar. They moved from Cole’s to the Pop Inn, that’s when I moved to Whifflet St. Mary’s who left from the Barnyard and then to the Clock Bar before the Club folded.

Phil Cole’s then moved to the Woodside where they still leave from today.
