JOZO WORLD CUP BLOW

1

CELTIC defender Jozo Simunovic failed to make his international debut for Bosnia because he fell ill before their game against Gibraltar.

The 23-year-old Hoops centre-half created a sensation last month when he announced he was switching nationalities from Croatia to Bosnia.

After being an unused sub in last week’s flop in Cyprus, where Bosnia let slip a two-goal lead to lose 3-2, he was all set for his debut as they faced the World Cup minnows.

But Bosnian boss Mehmed Bazdarevic revealed Simunovic was a late withdrawal from his line-up.

He said: “Before the game Jozo told me that he did not feel well.

“So we didn’t want to take any risks with him and didn’t play him.

“Jozo will play in the Champions League for Celtic and in the future we can expect him to be one of our top players in our national team.

“There was no point taking any risks with him and we did the right thing.
