JOZO’S DOUBLE BOOST

JOZO SIMUNOVIC is fit and available for tonight’s Champions League game against Barcelona ND the Betfred League Cup Final against Aberdeen on Sunday.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers gave an upbeat assessment on the medical condition of the Croatian Under-21 international centre-back.

Simunovic is being nursed back falling the knee injury that record his debut season at the club and Rodgers has taken advice from his staff as regards use of the player through a tough spell of fixtures.

Two games in a week have been an issue, but the Hoops gaffer revealed the stopper can do the double-header against Barca and the Dons.

He said: “All being well, I think that will be the case. Playing on the Astroturf against Kilmarnock on Friday was a no go.

“That was why it was a great result for us – not only did we win the game and keep a clean sheet, but we had no injuries.

“Astro would have been a no go for him, but he has had the recovery in between and he will be fine.”

Rodgers will assess striker Leigh Griffiths, who also missed Rugby Park with a hamstring injury sustained in Scotland’s World Cup defeat against England at Wembley.

The boss added: “He did the warm up with the group on Tuesday morning and he’s making good progress.

“Most of the other players are available and will back in, with Emilio Izaguirre and Tom Rogic back in training after the international trip.”
