We are not short of choices, but the trophy win from our quadruple treble my mind most falls back on is the League Cup Final win over Newco in 2019, the 10th trophy of the series. Celtic were without a fit striker to start the game, Lewis Morgan was thrown into the role.
Even though that season produced another treble, this was a game in which demonstrated the decline of the imperious team that had gone 69 matches undefeated earlier in our quadruple run. Still, Celtic did what Celtic always did then, found what was necessary to win the trophy.
Newco battered us throughout the 90 minutes, plus 8 added at the end, but the game turned on a four-minute spell midway through the second half. Odsonne Edouard replaced Morgan on 59 minutes and was fouled the first time the ball went near him. Christopher Jullien met the resulting Ryan Christie free kick to score the only goal of the game.
Three minutes after that, Jeremie Frimpong was red carded and conceded a penalty. Alfredo Morelos’ effort was saved by Fraser Forster, who put on one of the greatest goalkeeper performances I have ever seen.
Under so much pressure, with our run on the line, Jullien’s goal brought a moment of sheer elation. For me, no other goal in the entire 12 trophy run matches it. Just over a year later, Chris was injured. It was 14 months before we saw him on the field again, by which time a new manager was in place with a new defensive partnership and plan for the future.
He travelled to Germany yesterday for a medical ahead of a planned move to Schalke. This examination will not go through on the nod, so there are no guarantees the deal will conclude. At 29, Chris cannot afford to sit on the bench, or stand, and wait for his chance. If he gets his move, it will be a bittersweet parting.
Those of you who are paying attention will note, the squad headcount is close to being relieved of an occupant in central defence. Backfill is the more interesting question.

No howler.your a troll.be it politics or football.wrong.
Just wrong.
Enjoy your anonymity,it’s what you thrive on.
A shite bag.
Lucky enough to have a ringside seat watching some great tennis this past couple of days.
Probably saw 2 greats of the game play on center court singles for the last time this past 2 nights.
Can’t understand why they didn’t close the roof at the end of the 3rd set in Andy’s game. It was really very dark at that stage.
The stadium at Centre court literally is transformed into a different place when the roof closes. The whole vibe transforms for the night matches.
It must only be a matter of time before they schedule these.
I really hope Isner does well now. He is a true sportsman and deserves it at the age of 37 !
Burnley 78
I used to think Centre court would be good for game of heideez n kicks or have 3 “n in at one end.
:-)
Nae luck Andy,
Enjoy yourselves.

Jullien is a strange one.
He might not be an Angeball player but then neither is Starfelt and he’s an undoubtedly better player than Starfelt.
He definitely had/has his limitations but had more pros than cons.
I’d have thought next to CCV we’d want an Ajer type. CCV is comfortable on the ball and plays it simple but doesn’t generally break lines (better at passing than Starfelt but runs less).
Maybe I’m wrong in what Ange wants from a defender but…
From those linked Itakura is definitely not a creative force. The new German boy rumours, from what I’ve seen of him, he looks solid but not exactly comfortable on the ball. Harwood-Bells potentially could fit that role.
But taking such a huge hit on Jullien just seems strange – who knows what goes in with players and managers but if it’s a race between him and Welsh?
So far this summers expected spend is 17 million;
2 million for meade
6 million (4 millions add on) for ccv
2.75 million (1 million add on) for bernabia
6.3 million for jota
= 17 million total so far.
Spending another 5-8 million to solidify our squad with a defensive midfielder and centreback would make sense.
35 million min banked for CL participation, 6 million for Australia games in Nov and 4. 6m for christie, ajer add ons and doaks sale means there is plenty left over in the bank and a shed load of talent on long term contracts who can grow as a team and be in the best position to retain the title and put up a decent showing in europe.
Hh
An T
Yup. I used to think the same.
As did Andy Murray and his brother who were always messing about with a football on the court.
Good morning all from Govanhill.
We’re is the £1million+ on the Stadium spent ,it’s certainly not spent on the outside steel structures or the concrete exits which absolutely filthy.
Good morning Celts.
So Lanus have officially announced the departure of Alexandro Bernabei to Celtic.
Sounds like today’s the day for the Argentine and Jota to be announced. Or will it be tomorrow?
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if a new centre-half is also unveiled this week. My money’s on Taylor Harwood-Bellis from Man City on loan. Just a hunch.
It’s great to be a Celt.
Sevilla have targeted another striker instead of Rangers centre forward Alfredo Morelos – and it’s former Ibrox flop Umar Sadiq who is in line for a £22m move to Spain. (Scottish Sun)
The above as reported on the BBC Scotland ‘gossip’ column. There must be a ring folder 2 feet thick with these headlines, clubs about to swoop, clubs vying for his signature only to find a day or two later that they instead went for another striker, any striker. Comedy gold, will they ever learn?
MALONE BHOY
I said the same yesterday.
Doesn’t make sense.
The same as releasing Rogic. I still don’t understand that either.

Project delivery — not quite.
Big Auto background — product definition / product delivery.
Counted beans for 5 years — so I have strayed from the one true path.
And then there was the systems analysis / the IT nonsense / the line support.
For a mechanical I haven’t done a lot of proper engineering.
But it paid the bills.
Welcome Alexandro.

✍️🆕 Comunicado 𝗢𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹: #BernaBhoy!
#CelticFC is delighted to announce the signing of Argentinian full-back Alexandro Bernabei from Club Atlético Lanús on a five-year deal, subject to international clearance.
Welcome to the Champions of Scotland, Alexandro! 🇦🇷🍀
StT @ 9.12
AP has his reasons.
NB was a utility player who would only fill gaps with us.
TR struggles to play with the regular intensity that we need — skill through the roof but …
… we are playing an all action game and he was not consistent enough.
Plus he might have wanted to move closer to Aus — not sure but he has gone.
CJ is a fart in a spacesuit type of character in the CFC dressing room — huffmeister supreme.
Huge talent but not consistent enough plus he has not recovered from his hissy fit of 2 years ago.
AP is making a lot of tough calls.
Here’s hoping he has a plan to take us forward.
I think he is totally focused on the CL this season.
No more PL numbers games — 2 out of 5 is OK.

At some point you are going to offer some back up.
Howling at the moon is never a good look.
You said that we were spending £1mill / £1.2mill every month on our home.
The published accounts do not back you up on that.
So either …
You have seen the current management accounts … ?
You are making the numbers up out of your self proclaimed DD luv?
You have gotten mixed up between running costs and capital investment?
DD luv — you will get over it.
For the record I was into DD luv back in the day / plooky youth and all that — unfortunately SF thought she could sing and killed the vibe stone dead in an instant.
Hello fried eggs / hello ironing board.
Consequently any chance you could offer up some detail?

Good morning Celts.

There’s a ‘Welcome to Celtic’ interview on Celtic TV, so just the ‘feeshul photo with the scarf to come…

That was a tough one hh
The manager is clearly moving out the previous manager’s signings over time. Happened under the last manager as well, not so much with the previous one to that i.e. developed the inherited squad more
The slight difference now is that there is a bit more seniority and value in the players being shifted now and moving on players who were here for years as well.
Barkas on loan is a great deal as we save wages and he may attract a suitor if he gets some confidence
Ajeti – he has good attributes but never at Celtic; everyone except 2 people at Celtic knew this. I see a free transfer to a Swiss club and we take a bath on the fee but save wages
Julienn – deal being done and I thought we paid far too much him at the time as well. Was not on anyone’s radar and his own manager wouldn’t paly him in CL qualifier
Bolingoli – probably a loan to a european club with PO
Soro- no idea but back to Israel is a possibility
Afolabi and Shaw will be let go
Interesting that the only 2 players who will be left from the 2019 and 2020 splurges are Turnbull and Taylor, both Scottish and didn’t need much scouting. Taylor is the only one trusted by consecutive managers to play regularly throughout and tossers like me slagged him rotten in his first 2 seasons
funny old game Saint
I’ll tell youse all something for nothing.
That’s some almighty pace down our left hand side this season in Bernabei and Maeda….
Not too shoddy on the right either…
Bigger, better and even faster csc

Toaty Trumper @ 10.06 / 10.08
Any chance you could back up your £1mill / £1.2mill per month “spend on our home” comments?
I think you are are talking tripe but if you could back it up then it would be a learning event for me — positives all round.
CB @ 10.18
The big issue at the moment is the make up of the CL squad.
We are currently struggling to find / justify our home grown players and our SPL trained players.
Might explain the shocking news — after last season’s stagnation — that we are thinking about the Sheep that is LF.
Alexandro Bernabei thinks the stadium looks incredible. HuH ! What does he know.A word with some CQNers will soon put him right.
Bolingoii was made a scapegoat pure and simple, and in my opinion he is a better left back than Greg Taylor ,forgive and forget certainly not, what a way to treat a fellow player, but what do you except from that shower of chancers on The Celtic Board
Good morning all from a sunny Springburn (work).
Get these bhoys signed up.
Ange is not hanging about.
A few more on the Horizon.
D :)
Gunaydin – oh and 1.5 days of work before on Saturday hopefully heading to Turkiye.
D :)
Adi – you still on yer wee break over in Madrid?
D :)
Bienvenido Alexandro!
Hot Smoked,
Watching the games on TV and at a first physical viewing our stadium does look amazing, especially when you walk up the Celtic way with the Emirates behind you.
But for a frequent visitor, we can see where work needs done. Like a good clean round the window areas and a lick of paint wouldn’t go amiss.
HH.
PS : I bet you can remember when young aspiring players used to clean the terraces after a game. Skip loads of booze. Do you think we should ask Soro, Ajeti, Bolingoli et al to pick up a paint brush.😀
HH.
It may be stating the obvious but, with Rogic, Bitton and Julien gone, we need some height in the team or we will be very vulnerable to the Route 1 hammer throwers.
Every corner, shy and free kick, to the opposition, will bring on the fear.

Do you think we should ask Soro, Ajeti, Bolingoli et al to pick up a paint brush.😀`
Not so sure if I would trust Ajeti and Bolingoli with a paint brush!
Cheerio for now.
They are currently power spraying the outside of the stadium where the banners were, por cierto.
Shite talking ice cream guy.
Keep your initialled shite for someone else.
For the record.why answer someone who does not attend Celtic Park at all. Troll
You were once nothing.
You still are
My figures are correct.
Keep guessing,Keep speculating.
It’s all you can do.a unionist trait,at least the real tories attach figures, your Tory lite/stay with their policies
The more you write, the more errors contained.
Imagine pumping murdochs wife.sums your shower of traitor scum up for being the right wing shills you are.
But like the sliverous little turnaround Tommy’s your party is,they will become the Scottish Labour Party in an independent Scotland, they might even get voted in(I would alternatively advise a socialist party and not the latest marketing mix).
Bye ice cream stand guy.
Celtic’s first Argentinian player?
