Jullien early return unlikely. Bolton sign off CVA

516

I doubt that Christopher Jullien was included in our Europa League squad is an indication that he will appear in a Celtic shirt near you anytime soon.  The final group game is three months away, a timeframe that is more likely for Chris to be ready for European action.

The player was a crucial addition to the team that won our ninth successive title, performing memorably heroics in that season’s Europa League group.  His goal in the League Cup Final that season resulted in one of the sweetest Hampden moments in a clutch of several in recent seasons.  You will recall, though, that his early season form in the summers of 2019 and 2020 was far from his best.  He is a player who takes a month longer to get up to match fitness than others.

Having not kicked a ball since December, the work required to get him back to his peak will be considerable.  It will do him no favours to force him into a level of competition he is not ready for.

I was delighted to hear Bolton Wanderers agreed a CVA with creditors two years after going into administration.  Chairwoman Sharon Brittan said; “After a very challenging two years we are absolutely delighted to confirm that the Club has reached agreement with its unsecured creditors.

“This ensures that we have met our obligations, satisfied the EFL requirements and are therefore free of any embargoes and penalties.”

Bolton faced a number of winding-up orders but clung to survival long enough to meet creditors’ requirements.  It is remarkable how few football clubs actually go to the wall, most fans find a way to pay creditors and keep their linage intact.

  1. During the refs “strike”, the refs brought in from Poland I think were excellent. Not one contentious decision

Amazing how Huns get covid + when a Belfast lab is not involved, another one😱

Ianis Hagi could miss as many as FIVE games for Rangers after testing positive for Covid-19 on international duty.

  4. In the late 60/70s I worked with McGinlay’s da’s bff for several years, said tae me one day that he had me all week and McGinlay on the weekend and all he got was Celtic, Celtic, Celtic.

Seemingly after the big kid on Irishman Cascarino scored against them and then milked it in front of our fans he ran up tae him telling him tae hurry up as he couldnae wait tae get hame tae tell his da he reffed the game where he scored.

I was friendly with a player with several top flight clubs, he came intae another pal’s hoose one midweek night after playing in a reserve game face tripping him and bitching about the ref, when we asked him why he said it was McGinlay, the other mate who also played in the old 2nd Division at that time replied what did you expect, seemingly always a breest.

Your kind words have warmed my heart to the extent that the wee Gaviscon firemen will be on a double shift.

International breaks used to be the time for lists, like “Who are you top 5 TB infected alpacas?” or “Top 10 perms of 90’s football”.

None of that now, modern football blogging is rubbish…

We’ve been through this. It’s nothing to do with the lab (which isn’t in Belfast). If there’s anything untoward going on it’s earlier in the process.

Which would of course explain why the positive tests only seem to occur when national teams are involved in the testing process.

“I believe the only country who invited in the Nazis.

I stand to be corrected as no doubt the usua suspects will.”

    —————————–

Never sure with statements like that whether you are seeking any further info or are deaf to it but the picture is a lot more complicated than that. They had fought WW1 against the Allied Powers and alongside the Germans, in fact they contributed heavily to the start of it, with their desire to punish Serbia but they were very heavily influenced in this reaction by the growung Nationalism of Prussian-led Germany.

Having shared the same grievances as the defeated Germans, they had a large constituency with similar fascist sentiments and resentments. But like pre-Nazi Germany, they still had to overthrow a Government, by threat of German invasion, in order to get installed a nazi puppet government who then “invited” them in. Having had troops massed and ready on the border as a threat against the non-cooperative Austrian Government, the invasion was happening whether invited or not.

There would be similar welcomes offered by the German population of Sudetenland, by the Croats of Yugoslavia, and by some Baltic and Norwegian opportunists. Their governments may have made no formal invite but the Austrian “invite” was definitely under duress. They could, if they had been militarily successful found a significant group in England, Scotland and Ireland to form their version of Vichy France, with a mixture of pro-fascist enthusiasm and a desire to limit the depredations of being a colonised country.

I don’t get the anti-Austria opinions here. Yes- they had a recent fascist threat via Jorg Haider, (though it’s Hungary and Belarus (and Russia) where fascistic leaders have actually been more successful in a “democracy”) but, in Austria, there was no enthusiasm or politicking for another unification. It is a non-issue currently.

“T’was debating the other day on the failures of Celtic managers* to bring through Academy players in sufficient numbers and quality.

Rather than discuss the reasoning, the respondents were academy failure denialists and some p! $$ poor excuses.”

Salvation were a good rock band I saw them many times at the old Beach Pavilion in Girvan 🎸

  16. I used to watch Salvation in the Trocadero in Hamilton. As a Motherwell teenager I often asked myself if it was worth getting run out of town, or worse, every week.

Part of growing up I suppose.
