Jullien early return unlikely. Bolton sign off CVA

I doubt that Christopher Jullien was included in our Europa League squad is an indication that he will appear in a Celtic shirt near you anytime soon.  The final group game is three months away, a timeframe that is more likely for Chris to be ready for European action.

The player was a crucial addition to the team that won our ninth successive title, performing memorably heroics in that season’s Europa League group.  His goal in the League Cup Final that season resulted in one of the sweetest Hampden moments in a clutch of several in recent seasons.  You will recall, though, that his early season form in the summers of 2019 and 2020 was far from his best.  He is a player who takes a month longer to get up to match fitness than others.

Having not kicked a ball since December, the work required to get him back to his peak will be considerable.  It will do him no favours to force him into a level of competition he is not ready for.

I was delighted to hear Bolton Wanderers agreed a CVA with creditors two years after going into administration.  Chairwoman Sharon Brittan said; “After a very challenging two years we are absolutely delighted to confirm that the Club has reached agreement with its unsecured creditors.

“This ensures that we have met our obligations, satisfied the EFL requirements and are therefore free of any embargoes and penalties.”

Bolton faced a number of winding-up orders but clung to survival long enough to meet creditors’ requirements.  It is remarkable how few football clubs actually go to the wall, most fans find a way to pay creditors and keep their linage intact.

  1. Looking at the Israeli line-up El Hamed in a back 3, Bitton on the bench

    Israel 3 goals down

    Denmark flying in this group

  2. Saint Stivs: Speaking personally, I wouldn’t want Lennon or Keane anywhere near the Ireland team in a managerial role.

I’d take Duff in a heartbeat but not sure if he would return to the set up after feeling badly let down by the FAI previously.

Stephen Kenny is a good appointment but unfortunately, he doesn’t have a good pool of players to work with.

  3. International football should either be played by amateurs or the associations should start picking up the wages of those players who get injured playing for them.

Hope kyogo isn’t too badly injured. Any more news on that front?

I havnt seen the film, but WEEBOBBYCOLLINS POST alone deserves a Jinky award (our equivalent of the oscars).

    wonderful actually.

  6. Saint Stivs

Kenny was developed to be the manager and he was given the top job to develop the young ones from the U21s. A bit like what France did in the 90 and Belgium later.

I think most people here in Ireland are happy to miss a tournament (especially the Qatar one) if it delivers the next one with a ‘club’ like side.

Brian Kerr vehemently disagreed on Sunday (24hrs after the game ) so is clearly angry.

No-one mentioning Lennon here. Bookies will because he is Irish and easy money for them.

He has no track record in developing players so a bad choice IMO

Local lad Omobamidele who was at my daughter’s school and played for Leixlip Utd is playing tonight. Just shows that Kenny is running a project for next euros

  7. SAINT STIVS @ 8:45

Hi Saint: I can’t really say, because I’ve been on the ESPN+ App, dipping in and out of different games.

In previous games, I thought Gilmour was a competent, confident player with a fair amount of skill, prepared to take the ball off the back 4 and keeper, and rarely missing a pass. However, in this Scotland team, he seems a bit ineffective, which may not be all his fault. He doesn’t make surging forward runs a la McGregor, and isn’t a goal threat. It may be that we have so little talent up front that he has little opportunity to create goalscoring opportunities for them. I think he may be one of these players who blossoms with better players all around him, and in a team that concentrates on dominating possession. Bottom line – I haven’t made my mind up on him.😊

I don’t know what the likes of Sky pay their pundits, but in 2017 Super Scoreboard were paying the pundits £600 a pop for their two hours of talking shite, I assume they get more these days.

    HH

  9. Faroes beating Moldova 2-0. Denmark now up 4-0. I’m praying that we don’t have an ending here like the Republic vs Portugal. Agony to watch.

  10. De Pay with hat trick for the Netherlands. Turkey lost Leicester center half Soyuncu to red card after 44 minutes.

  11. Martim, loving your rose-tinted description of a fictional Labour Party that millions of the young and multi ethnic vote for in London due to their fighting for equality, a fairer economy and as they always have the maintenance of employment rights.

Would this be the same Labour Party that wasted millions fighting to prevent equal pay awards for female Glasgow Council workers? The same Labour Party that paid out over £600K last year for defamation costs in the anti-semitism case? The same Labour Party that supports one of their councillors as an Orange Lodge leader in Scotland?

    Equality right enough…clown!

  12. HAIRLIKESPAGHETTI

My wife was one of those workers, an absolute disgrace from a “socialist” party.
