Juranovic and scouts looking for value

239

I’m nervous for Josip Juranovic in his World Cup quarter final this afternoon. it is an historic occasion for a Celtic player to take part in.  A win for Croatia would bring them to a third World Cup semi-final in their short history.  It would also cement Josip’s claim to be one of the top defenders outside of the most monied leagues – that is a metric which is followed by scouts looking for value.

He will directly face Vinicius Jr, one of the game’s top young talents, for the third time this season.  If reports are correct that there is interest in Josip from Spain, he may have to stick to his task today, as the battle with Vini is one he will be expected to cope with in future.  As they demonstrated against South Korea, Brazil can ease through the gears and humiliate opponents.  Any nervousness is justified.

Enjoying reports that Nantes “No 1 target” has for most of this season been sitting on the Ibrox bench.  French football must be hard up.  There’s a fire sale coming to a dressing room near Milngavie soon.

Good luck this afternoon, Jura’!

  1. Bada Bing.

I’m not watching the game. Instead I find myself looking out JJ

    Wee bit indecision there.

Are we actively trying to sell him or does the player and agent want to go? If the latter we need to sell but at a great price and have a replacement in place. Nothing Celtic can do if a player says he’s for the off and his agent is punting him all over Europe.

  3. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    JJ doing very well indeed.

    Modric is a great player.

Worth reminding that a few eye brows were raised when Real Madrid paid £30m for a decent enough player just weeks shy of his 27th birthday.

I recall the hype around “Daniel Levy, Tough Negotiator”.

    Absolute bargain.

Guy has delivered to the highest standard for ten years since.

  4. St Tams – JJ wants to play in a better league therefore we want to maximise his fee. Don’t think he is being pushed out the door .

Ange needs to sell to buy, he said as much at the AGM. He has already spent 4.5 million on a right back this month so we can assume JJ has left the building, so to speak.

Player of the first half Josip, great news for Celtic considering he doesn’t want to play for us.

Brazil much livelier at start of this half. Croatian o.g. narrowly averted, check for handball against JJ.

  7. If he was wearing the Hoops that would have been a penalty, it never was but in Scotland against a team wearing green and white…..

  8. GG just turned 28 Jj is 27 we are a selling club and always have been, gone are the sentimental days of MON and the Big Mhan, 7 of the Lions grew up Celtic supporters, no longer happens, time to cash in again and bring in younger blood especially when deidco are donald ducked, Europe is where it’s at so let’s build for that.

  9. Paul 67,

    A timely article.

Juranovic is currently having a great game and the commentary team are recognising this.

His value shout be rocketing as we speak.

“We should be trying to keep players like Juranuvic and not actively trying to sell them.”

    —————————-

    Of course we should.

    But, when that’s not working………..

We should try to get the best value sale we can.

We can’t pretend to be Man City as we’d be all fur coat and nae knickers

  11. Looking at this game JJ and Modric are a good partnership, should we try to buy Modric? But then with a fit again CalMac would he get a game?

  12. The Ange effect at work. 18 months ago Jura was playing in the Polish league now he’s been motm in a world cup knockout. It’s not happened by chance

This is how it works, we sell him for a big profit, his replacement comes in at the same stage of his development, probably a better player than Jura when he came to Celtic, Ange turns him into another World Cup star, and we’ve got a nice wedge to spend on improvements elsewhere on the pitch

  13. We either sell Juranovic now or we forget about everything Ange has said about aggressive dealings in the transfer market

  14. Same with GG, you can’t talk about it then not do it the first time the opportunity arises

Juras at the top of his value right now, how’s the time

He’s refused terms , we no longer let contracts run down when there are suitors.
