Juranovic, Giakoumakis, then Abada

833

I see a bit of chat on Liel Abada in the Latest News section of CQN this morning.  I have been impressed with the player from his early outings last year.  Although a winger with a prodigious assists record, it is his ability inside the box that impresses most.

He understands when to arrive in the danger area and has the speed and touch to be effective once there.  With the right tutelage, I think he may end up as a striker – you will recall, the Great Swede played on the wing until arriving in Glasgow as a 26-year-old, when an opportunity opened to play through the middle.

I sense little resistance to the potential sale of Josip Juranovic.  He had a stellar World Cup, at 27 he is in his prime and we have already recruited a replacement.  There is less unanimity when it comes to Giorgos Giakoumakis.  Gio is enormously popular and brings a different threat to any other striker at the club.  However, at 28, we know the script.  His age profile and backup status mean that he is available for the right price.

Liel does not always make the starting 11 but he would if I was picking the team.  His age and contract profile are such that we are under no pressure to sell.  But I need to ask myself what I really want from Celtic and how to get there.

I want us to be a competitive Champions League team, not the cannon fodder we were this season.  To get there, we need an excellent recruitment regime and an aggressive trading policy.  I’ll back any plan that aims for this target, anything else is conservative and unambitious – I don’t know about you, but I’m neither.

Being referreed and VAR applied differently to Celtic from every other club, Nicholson get off your arse and nail the SFA

*I have no doubt that the much-maligned Peter, aye that’s his name, who has already shattered their cheating with the revisions on FFP within UEFA will be going after this, after all he has unfinished business with the former provisional club player who clearly benefited after his ascent up Jacobs Ladder from his role as managing director at the harry wraggs.

Big Peter has unfinished business with this charlatan, who he initially trusted, after going to him with a file proving unfair decisions against us and was told to go forth and multiply, he’s another that like Farry, who will soon face the wrath of the mighty Celtic FC.

    Rules are rules.

I’ve posted the red card offence classifications earlier. David Turnbull’s offence fits neither.

BTW – a keystone of VAR is to correct a “clear and obvious error”.

    There wasn’t one here.

Back to Basics…had that been Lundstram on Joe Hart, you would have been happy with a yellow card?

*Joe would probably have got a red for simulation

  4. How often are our goals going to be subjected to Var? Three goals in one game challenged by the guy in the hut with his Var box. It is about time our Board spoke out about this. As for fouls awarded against us and the opposition getting away with the same “fouling” it is incredible. But then I forgot…Scotland and people like Clancy doing as the SFA Masters tell him.

  5. glendalystonsils on

I seem to recall a much worse challenge by Stephen Fletcher on Joe Hart at Tannadice earlier in the season which was only a yellow . Turnbull is not even looking at the keeper until they actually collide , so how can it be deemed violent or a serious professional foul?

As to the game , a tremendous first half performance and it felt more like 7-0 than 4-1 and a goal difference which would have had the huns smashing their t.v screens with a frozen turkey . St. J. goal looked offside but replay showed CCV playing May on while the rest of the defence kept their line …. not like the big mhan , who had his usual imperious game otherwise . Reo a deserved MOTM . One of the best full back performances of the season from a guy who isn’t even a full back!

This VAR CRAP is doing ma heid in !

With the LACK of a Goal Line CAMERA…………it appears that Kyogos Header in the 1st half was therefore decided by the Ref and MAYBE a Linesman ?

Where was/is the EVIDENCE to confirm that the Ball was NOT over the line before the Goalie palmed it out ? SHEER GUESSWORK by the officials….OR MAYBE a decision taken WITHOUT any CONFIRMATION available one way or the other…., and simply a decision to NULIFY Celtic…yet again ?

We NEVER seem to get any ” Benefit of the Doubt” in many decisions, and THAT in itself…is cause for me to suggest, that it happens FAR TOO OFTEN for it to be a so called ” Coincidence” ?

I had TWO Correct Score Bets on with my Bookie Today….Celtic to win 7 – 1…..and Celtic to win 4 – 1, at odds of 12/1.

So I made a nice wee Profit.

HH and Merry Christmas to ALL the GOOD Guys on here.

  16. Any use of VAR season should have been experimental, as on a trial basis. If the SFA wants to use VAR for the benefit of the referees it supplies to the SPL or SPFL, then it should pay for that purpose, not clubs like Celtic, or rather Celtic in particular who are paying the most for a system from which we are benefitting the least. Anybody who thought or thinks that Celtic will benefit from an additional van load of masons at our expense clearly has not being paying attention. Nor ever likely to.

What I was trying so badly yesterday to get over is , Ange is a very very committed guy and wants to manage a top team wherever he goes. Now, he can do that at Celtic if he is backed up yo the hilt by the board, but do they really want the same thing and be willing to pay for it??

“Goal shy Celtic” score 4 😮

Very nice performance today, the tempo was fantastic and St Johnston couldn’t live with it.

It seems VAR intends to scrutinise everything Celtic do. I suppose Crawford set the tone for his MIBs last year. None of them want to be seen giving Celtic anything that could be described as “marginal”.

It has also set a number of precedents in terms what constitutes a hand ball and, after today, a red card. I’m sure these precedents will be applied without fear or favour😂

IMO, the fourth goal was clearly onside and there was no need for VAR involvement.

This was confirmed by tv footage.

The linesman on the north stand side was flying a kite in the hope that the goal could be disallowed rather than flagging for offside because he could actually see a possible Infringement.

For me, the delay of 2/3 minutes was purely an exercise in trying to make it look like the linesman had made an honest mistake as opposed to making a blatant attempt to cheat.

  25. Not long hame and that was an excellent team performance by the Bhoys. VAR/Masonic Scotland just don’t like Celtic. The first version Hun was seen off and whilst we still have 10000 more every game we are always gonnae be Better than those Cheats.

A 4-1 home win completely and totally exhausted by VAR, this time coupled with, off the radar gross incompetence. A dreadful referee before VAR, Kevin Clowncy bumbled his way through another error strewn 95 minutes. Failed to add VAR or injury time in the first half. Underlining why he’s rarely allowed to referee a game outside Scotland. The David Turnbull instance which he saw and penalised, but didn’t yellow card was sloped off to the incompetent inexperienced VAR referee, a shocking decision even by Hamdump standards .

Kyogo and Hatate scored good goals but VAR intruded on the game again and again. Reo Hatate and the supporters suffered especially, in a needless delay that went way beyond incompetence, winding a tape back to the game before last, looking for a reason to disallow. Kyogo had opened the scoring or so he thought, but without goal line technology it was traditionally waved away, no need for a second VAR look.

How can you subdue a 4-1 win in Parkhead ? No problem, they did it with aplomb in a Christmas atmosphere that turned into disgruntled empty seats, long before the end. Embarrassing soul destroying waiting even for an incredibly offside St Johnstone goal, that pictures later miraculously deemed onside, but not from when Stevie May received the ball. It should have been reviewed in the first look, but they had to juggle the pictures.

AP’s body language a synonym for face tripping him started with VAR and he almost couldn’t wait to get off camera. There is now an agreement agreed with Celtic TV, that VAR questions are off limits. You ain’t seen nothing, it’s not new year yet VAR is the Celtic game changer. I feel sorry for fellow Celtic supporters, if you can’t see and compare the ‘different’ standard to which Celtic are VAR’d, you’re not paying attention.

  27. BTW – Sportscene is on BBC Scotland @ 19:15 to 20:15. Don’t worry they will edit the VAR Crap right out. 1 & 5 minutes – Seriously LMFAO.

we tend to not to appeal decisions – there are no Celtic appeals on the spfl website from last season. There are many Rangers and hearts appeals which tend to GO favourably for these two teams. There are many hibs appeals , almost all of which go against the hibees.

  31. It’s a shame that such a great performance is spoiled by VAR.

VAR is the topic of nearly every post while energy, precision and enterprise from the team is being forgotten.

I dread to think of what will happen at Ibrox.

MOTM is obviously Hatate, but adding 2 more for Jobo is not so easy.

Kyogo for his goals, all 3 of them perhaps.

CCV for his colossal presence and calmness. I expect he will have a new pair of slippers from Santa as he must have worn out his old ones having had them on every game this season.

Calum for his metronomic presence in midfield?

Taylor for his energy, reliability and sheer joy of playing in the hoops?

Maeda for his pace and the terror he instill in full backs?
