Juranovic, Giakoumakis, then Abada

833

I see a bit of chat on Liel Abada in the Latest News section of CQN this morning.  I have been impressed with the player from his early outings last year.  Although a winger with a prodigious assists record, it is his ability inside the box that impresses most.

He understands when to arrive in the danger area and has the speed and touch to be effective once there.  With the right tutelage, I think he may end up as a striker – you will recall, the Great Swede played on the wing until arriving in Glasgow as a 26-year-old, when an opportunity opened to play through the middle.

I sense little resistance to the potential sale of Josip Juranovic.  He had a stellar World Cup, at 27 he is in his prime and we have already recruited a replacement.  There is less unanimity when it comes to Giorgos Giakoumakis.  Gio is enormously popular and brings a different threat to any other striker at the club.  However, at 28, we know the script.  His age profile and backup status mean that he is available for the right price.

Liel does not always make the starting 11 but he would if I was picking the team.  His age and contract profile are such that we are under no pressure to sell.  But I need to ask myself what I really want from Celtic and how to get there.

I want us to be a competitive Champions League team, not the cannon fodder we were this season.  To get there, we need an excellent recruitment regime and an aggressive trading policy.  I’ll back any plan that aims for this target, anything else is conservative and unambitious – I don’t know about you, but I’m neither.

A Very Merry Christmas to ALL CQN’rs!

    I concur!

David Turnbull’s collision when shown in an image does not give the whole story. In real-time anyone can see that he is making an attempt for the ball and that’s where his eyes are focused, not on the advancing keeper.

  2. Tavernier boot up against Ross County prevented the guy directing the ball properly, Sibbald boot to Giakumakis’ chest nothing given in either scenario, do you need to wear Hoops for these to be penalised?

Good morning all Tim’s across the Globe.

I hope you all had a lovely, peaceful time yesterday.

Right – are we appealing Turnbull’s red card?? I think we should.

Big Jimmy – Regarding a meet up, due to work the best day for me is a Friday afternoon.

    ………………….

    Cheers DAVID Bhoy..

Just let me know WHAT FRIDAY suits you ?

I will also give BELMONT BRIAN a shout, cos he is ” UP ” for a Bevvy.

You are CORRECT, Celtic SHOULD APPEAL about Turnbulls Red Card…IF they can cos Im unsure about the rules these days….can a Club APPEAL a STRAIGHT RED ?

    HH

  4. Greenpinata- I just think there was no intent. DT was focussed on ball coming in. Yes his boot was high but no intent. I thought a booking was suffice.

It seems like VAR look at everything we do to find away to punish us. Like our goals.

    D :)

  5. On the DT challenge seemingly “intent” doesn’t come into the equation … the rules now say if you endanger an opponent then a red card can be issued

VAR in Scotland also has an extra rule … if you have a Celtic crest on your top then it’s a red all day long even if the opponent is not in danger

  7. Prestonpans bhoys on

Merry Christmas to all, there was a similar challenge by Tavpen. Var didn’t even consider it

  8. I think that Celtic FC should ” CIRE” the other offences such as SIBBALDS High Boot against GMAK, and the High Boot of Tavenier preventing a goal for Ross County…….However, its my understanding that ANGE and Celtic will NOT get involved in other teams dodgy decisions, but that doesnt excuse the High Boot on GMAK V Dundee Utd, which went unpunished ?

For me, the LACK of REACTION from the St Johnstone players to Turnbulls challenge on their Goalie ALSO TELLS a Story….NONE of the St Johnstone players complained very much at the time, and as far I know, none of their players remonstrated with David Turnbull after the challenge, which tells me that the St Johnstone players ALSO saw it as being ACCIDENTAL !

A YELLOW CARD for ” Dangerous Play” would have sufficed…SIMPLES………But the Refs and VAR CHUMPS are determined to punish Celtic at EVERY turn.

That HUN MOB will be ORDERED by Beale to stick the Boot into Celtic at every opportunity next week, ESPECIALLY IF Celtic are ahead in the match……if anyone on here THINKS that REF BEATON will play with an ounce of fairness, think again !

    HH

  9. Big Jimmy Por Cierto

I think Celtic should 100% get involved in speaking about other matches.

Precedent and consistency are so important. How other matches ( not just the Huns ) are referred and var’d should matter to Celtic.

  12. Stephen (Greek: Στέφανος Stéphanos, meaning “wreath, crown” and by extension “reward, honor, renown, fame”, often given as a title rather than as a name; c. 5 – c. 34 AD) is traditionally venerated as the protomartyr or first martyr of Christianity.[1] According to the Acts of the Apostles, he was a deacon in the early Church at Jerusalem who angered members of various synagogues by his teachings. Accused of blasphemy at his trial, he made a speech denouncing the Jewish authorities who were sitting in judgment on him[Acts 7:51–53] and was then stoned to death. Saul of Tarsus, later known as Paul, a Pharisee and Roman citizen who would later become a Christian apostle, participated in Stephen’s martyrdom.[Acts 22:20]

The only source for information about Stephen is the New Testament book of the Acts of the Apostles.[2] Stephen is mentioned in Acts 6 as one of the Greek-speaking Hellenistic Jews selected to participate in a fairer distribution of welfare to the Greek-speaking widows.[3]

The Catholic, Anglican, Oriental Orthodox, Eastern Orthodox Churches, Lutheran and the Church of the East view Stephen as a saint.

To your point back to me a few days ago about Celtic not usually appealling decisions …

    … Noted and accepted.

I don’t expect any appeal to be successful.

But if we do appeal? Two things

Chance it won’t be heard until after Hibs match – DT might provide a useful cameo in the game.

Keeps issue in spotlight in lead up to 02 January.

Respectfully to all on CQN – some Celtic fans are taking a terribly reasonable view of the Turnbull incident, evaluating the merits of the decision in isolation.

These decisions must be challenged in the round and wider context.

Respect to Dessybhoy for earlier re highlighting the Sibbald assault on GG.

    Go watch it again.

DELIBERATE follow through studs to chest.

    VAR reviewed.

No overturn of a clear and obvious error

(remember Dickinson was 10 yards away and didn’t even award a foul ! )

Add that to the ridiculous hand ball decisions given / not given.

    Evidence base is already there.

PS – early morning 01 January, I’d also leak a story that Celtic – as largest contributors – are considering withdrawing funding of VAR.

  20. Celtic FC Foundation are delighted to announce that we received a wonderful donation of £11,266 earlier this week thanks to the Club and a group of Celtic plc shareholders.

The group, who had come together a number of years ago to seek to address certain governance issues in Scottish football, engaged with the Club and worked independently over a number of years, with the objective of highlighting the value of continuing to evolve the governance rules underpinning Scottish Football and European Cub Competition.

The group of shareholders also privately funded legal costs in the process and the Club agreed in principle to make a contribution to these costs in recognition of the effort and funds that were committed.

Thankfully for Celtic FC Foundation, with the agreement of the Club, the shareholders have directed this contribution to Celtic FC Foundation’s 2022 Christmas Appeal. We would therefore like to express our sincere thanks to all of those involved. We are exceptionally grateful for your wonderful support in helping us to ‘Share the Magic’ this festive season.
