I see a bit of chat on Liel Abada in the Latest News section of CQN this morning. I have been impressed with the player from his early outings last year. Although a winger with a prodigious assists record, it is his ability inside the box that impresses most.
He understands when to arrive in the danger area and has the speed and touch to be effective once there. With the right tutelage, I think he may end up as a striker – you will recall, the Great Swede played on the wing until arriving in Glasgow as a 26-year-old, when an opportunity opened to play through the middle.
I sense little resistance to the potential sale of Josip Juranovic. He had a stellar World Cup, at 27 he is in his prime and we have already recruited a replacement. There is less unanimity when it comes to Giorgos Giakoumakis. Gio is enormously popular and brings a different threat to any other striker at the club. However, at 28, we know the script. His age profile and backup status mean that he is available for the right price.
Liel does not always make the starting 11 but he would if I was picking the team. His age and contract profile are such that we are under no pressure to sell. But I need to ask myself what I really want from Celtic and how to get there.
I want us to be a competitive Champions League team, not the cannon fodder we were this season. To get there, we need an excellent recruitment regime and an aggressive trading policy. I’ll back any plan that aims for this target, anything else is conservative and unambitious – I don’t know about you, but I’m neither.

Lets All Do The Huddle @ 4.52…lol…..I’ve heard it a million times but have never listened to the words.
Eh?
Sold for a profit “if possible “???
Timbhoy163 @ 5.25…I remember getting the joiner’s tool set from Santa’s Grotto in Lewis’s department store, Argyle St. The other common present was the boring John Bull printing set…
I was also a semi-pro – in the late sixties and seventies; 4 years in Scotland, and 7 years in England non-league level. But did not give a thought to tactics, etc as I always had free-ranging role on the pitch. Seemingly I was a mixture of Billy Bremner and Jinky and Denis Law and Glen Hoddle and Luigi Riva. If only I knew at the time. I did win a few player of the year awards.
Anybody know why Celtic sold the Livi and are selling tomorrow’s game on PPV?
Can they do this with all home games if they choose?
Great idea if season books are sold out and the stadium is full.
The Biggest Elephant in the Room is VAR, Scottish Style.
Mon Malky’s boys !
VAR in itself is not anti-Celtic, it is the Scottish VAR refs behind the screen.

Not had a great few days because of the Season.
A lot are laid low because of the weather. I pinpointed where I think I was put under the Weather and I will talk about it to others in work.
Ventilation in offices are perhaps not as good as possible – especially when it’s Bertie Auld outside. A relative newbie to working in an office btw.
My last few days mean’t scraping the car first thing in the Morning….. go into an extreme heat and thats never good.
Come on RC do the misled.

I have noticed over the past couple of months or so that you sometimes respond sarcastically to my comments on CQN, however innocent and inoffensive.
A couple of times you have referred to me as a ‘know-it-all’. Once I didn’t even take part in a debate and you posted “don’t worry know-it-all Tom McLaughlin will be along in a minute”.
I confess to having absolutely no idea why you have a downer on me. I have racked my brain trying to recall us clashing on here and if we did, it escapes me.
Ordinarily it’s water off a duck’s back, but as it has become a regular occurence, can I respectfully ask if you could enlighten me?
Thanks and Merry Christmas.

I was one of those who thought that VAR would be a good thing, esp for us, how wrong I was, I hold my hands up, like everyone else we know they cheat us, but I honestly didn’t think that they would do it so blatantly and not give a funkeys muck about it, actually laughing at us in the process, IMO all it would take would be a pretty nondescript statement from the club questioning the viability of the present system.
Many years ago the Polish FA decide that the officials after the weekend games had to sit in front of a panel to explain the decisions that they came to, this could easily be implemented here at the stroke of a pen, get to sorting it Pedro, Oh and just a reminder that I am still waiting for a reply from the recorded letter I sent to you years back.

Paul 67,
The prize for winning our domestic league is the privilege of playing in the Champions league, the biggest show in town.
We need to be competitive and believe we belong. I think this realitive new found aspiration is capturing the masses as the bigger picture dawns.
Never again should domestic football triumph over European football and let’s finally bin the old mantra of dropping players in Europe to save them for a domestic game .
We must do whatever is necessary to achieve our European aspiration.

BSR – so in theory Celtic could put season books on sale, sell them all, then offer a season’s worth of home games on PPV to whomever didn’t get a season book?
If so, there’s a lot of money left on the table.
Why are they not doing this and what’s not like?
No sell out of season books, no PPV.
TET
I also thought VAR would be good for Celtic, especially with offsides. I still don’t know why Abada’s goal on Wednesday was disallowed and as for Jota’s goal at Fir Park, unbelievable.
An optimist by nature, I am a tad concerned about the possibility of some of our players departing. Sure I get the financial return, not daft, but surely Ange in particular must be a bit pissed off, while trying to get a good side together, is held back by greed by our board.
Sure some players have had their heads turned, I get it, but we have to pay the players all round better money and stop doing things on the cheap.. We’ll never improve with that mindset, but hey- ho , its the Celtic way.

Paul67,
We were competitive in this years CL. We ran out of steam as we couldnae replace those tasked with keeping up a hard press with quality.
Can we keep as many players as possible to do this?
Ange has spoken about unfashionable Fitba Countries having real Fitba Gems.
Efter Ange being a National team Coach playing against Countries that are miles off the radar. The Future is Looking Good.
Cannae resist it.

THE BLOGGER FORMERLY KNOWN AS GM
Clubs cannot broadcast PPV for games between 2:45 and 5:15 on a Saturday.
THE BLOGGER FORMERLY KNOWN AS GM @ 6:45 PM,
Apparently neither player will sign their “improved” contract and as they want more mullah, I’m guessing they’re going.
We are selling Jura at a prine time and should make a tidy sum but on recent performances and at his age I’m not sure we’ll get a great profit on Gio, his old club may even get a percentage of that, so Gio is not a money making deal that I can see, maybe proved wrong
For the right Club he is a very handy player
As for ppv; when the SPFL signed the amended TV broadcasting contract with BskyB, each SPL Club are able to sell five home matches on ppv – as long as they are not streamed during blocked hours

Which players have the board sold under Ange’s nose? Or are you just believing everything you read in the red tops?
So Many Celtic players now have a lot more experience of CL fitba.
Lots of time to contemplate, even realise they were put in, in the main, a very difficult situation as they had only played a certain level of opponent.
Looking forward to a Big Win the morra.

Problem is the club are silent, so the SFA will continue to cheat us, nobody or anything is gonna stop them, Take Jota’s goal at Fir park, their excuse was that he RECEIVED the ball when in an offside position FFS, this is supposed to be the governing body, this is why I say they are laughing at us, the club need to highlight these things if only to ridicule them.
Cheers Chairbhoy👍
Didn’t know that on PPV, so possibly 3 more games.
If Jura has to go, we’ll make a fortune.
GG – I’d rather break even than have a malign influence in the camp.
As I said a few weeks ago when his agent broke cover in the DR – he can GTF.
Funny reading CQN today.People telling Ange how to go about his transfer business.Really ?.do you actually think he needs advice ?

The press have been given the line that the Livy player did not intentionally head the ball towards Abada, therefore he’s offside.

The board have never added to my enjoyment of Celtic and will certainly never hinder it
In my wee world am delighted VAR is highlighting the cheats … and even better Celtic (& Ange and the bhoys) are still doing the business
All good :-)

In theory yes. but not such a good idea if you think about it.
SKY and Hamdump have to work out a formula and contract that fits everybody and that in includes season tickets, £12.99 to see Celtic when a season ticket works out about £40 a game, The ultimate PPV unlimited scenario might become far fewer season tickets sold and everybody in the hoose or elsewhere watching the match. That’s why there’s a limit like no 3.00pm kicks off see Tom McLaughlins point.
It suits us at the moment because we’re sold out anyway.
BSR – thank you.
Very true, I haven’t given it a lot of thought.
However, I did say if season books do not sell out, there’s no PPV.
I also did not stipulate the price per game.
